Truth is, whoever manages this country, influx of foreign workers can never be unplugged unless the real majority Singaporeans start to have a change of culture and mindset that Retail, Hospitality, and Service industries that are taking a huge part of country's landscape are NOT bad industries at all. Unlike other countries, most locals here look down on those industries and the people working on any of those. Truth hurts, and I can fully understand if you guys are defensive on this. It requires total participation from majority citizens of this country with a change of education on mindsets from the smallest but most important unit of society: The Family.
Parents must stop such bad education of telling their children to study hard so that they can work at the corporates or even abroad. Because for several decades to date, majority of those you call "better quality Singaporeans" only want the corporates/ higher mgt / and careers in foreign countries. So with robust growth of economy, leap of increase in tourism, spiking numbers of foreign companies coming in, where do you think the gov't should look into to fill such a tremendous size of demands to be filled on those mentioned industries? You know the answer fairly well.
