    After losing 2 phones to thiefs in the public transport, I decided it wouldn't happen again. I have a very tiny and old MP3 player, and yes I still use it. It has an micro SD slot so memory isn't much of a problem, my MP3 collection is going strong too, and the player itself is so simple looking that no one would want to steal it lmao

      That’s rough to have two phones stolen. I’ve seen it happen in Paris many times and people have tried to steal from my backpack. I agree having devices that people don’t want to steal makes life easier.

    I still have my Sony Walkman NW-A45 from years ago. I ripped music CDs in MP3 when I got that device until, about, three months ago. Now, I rip in FLAC. Now, I have hi-res audio on my Walkman. The sound is wonderful! I have inserted a 128 microSD card in the slot in the Walkman, which is the highest capacity the stereo can have. : - )

    • @LauraMalvoyante

      Thanks for the tip to tip in FLAC. I will start doing the same because I love good quality sound. Good on you for still using the Sony Walkman NW-45. I was looking at the newer versions like the Sony Walkman NW-A306 but it was too expensive. I may get the Sony NW-E394 because I like the form factor and Sony always has good sound quality.

      I got the Sony NW-E394 not even a week ago. It's a solid device, but it doesn't have expandable storage, so you're stuck with the internal 8GB and it doesn't support the FLAC format. I'd recommend getting a different one if storage capacity and lossless formats are important to you.
      I personally am fine with all that. I got mine mainly because of its size/weight and because it has FM radio. The music sounds nice with a good pair of headphones, especially if you fine-tune it using the equalizer.

    Great video, nice to see other people having love for mp3s still.
    I've been listening to mp3s in the 90s/2000s and after a brief Spotify era I've switched back to my mp3 collection again around 2016. Streaming is just so... overwhelming... and since I often listen to the same 2-3 albums for weeks, mp3 works much better for me. I don't like to use iTunes so considering getting some cheaper mp3 player that I can just copy the files to directly without any sync or bloated functions.

    Since you used to have an iPod, did you consider an iPod classic, with more capacity?
    I recently got one (refurbished w new battery and upgraded SD card with 256 GB) and I was amazed how good (actually perfect) this still works and integrates.
    I wanted to use iTunes because I still had all my old playlists in there. I was super surprised when I saw you can sync your Audible books - I had absolutely forgotten about that - AND podcasts. All of the ones I had subscribed on Spotify were also available on iTunes, so that was a very quick add. And then the 1000 songs I had previously bought on iTunes, I didn't have to convert them.
    So after all … amazing to see how well a 15 year old player still works and props to Apple for still supporting it.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have considered and I am still considering in an old iPod Classic for these reasons too. The sound on the iPods is exceptional, even after all these years. I need to find one that is refurbished, higher capacity and somewhat reasonable. I will keep my eyes out 👀

      @@LauraMalvoyante I was looking at other options, too … but boy can I say I have ZERO regrets to go with the iPod. It's just absolutely peak Apple design. Everything is simple and functional but not as boring as the current iPhone Music app.
      Cover flow is such a beautiful presentation for your music. The clickwheel must be one of the best user interfaces ever invented and implemented. It's so simple, yet versatile.
      I really enjoy using the iPod. It's doing one thing and it's (still) doing it very very well. Cannot remember having said this about a device in a long time.
      I think it seems like I would recommend :D

I use it for hotspot over to my laptop when I want internet at home, got a 50gb prepaid data plan for $34 a month here in Canada it all works great cancelled home internet and cable and lived without music for quite a while but I missed music at work so my solution is even more old school, I bought a ccpocket am/fm radio and a chest harness regular radio still works and keeps me entertained for my work days and I listen to sports games in the evening on it kind of makes up for not having cable tv.

    I bought an mp3 player recently because I was sick of spotify putting ads everywhere and the fact that if I played my playlists on my phone it would have permanent smart shuffle on (I don't have premium and since I'm a minor I have to get my parents to pay for it and they don't want to so there's that) and so often it would pull something like putting sad songs in my happy playlist or happy songs in my sad playlist
    I mostly listen to the same playlists/albums over and over again, sometimes creating new playlists if I see a new song I like on social media but I mostly come back to the same artist or playlist I made. I don't like having random new songs being put in those playlists most of the time so the mp3 player was a good option. I also like that it's a 1 time payment and I have it forever until it breaks, I don't need my parents permission to keep my listening experience since the player is already paid for.
    Though it does feel a bit weird when using it in the school bus where everyone is using a phone and wireless earbuds to listen to music meanwhile me with my mp3 player and wired earphones, but honestly I love how small and portable it is too, wrap my earphones about it when at the destination, throw it in my bag and don't have to worry about it cause it's only for music

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's great that you got an MP3 player! Spotify premium gets old fast so you are not missing out, at least you can have your own custom playlists without mixing genres or moods. I bet the other kids in the bus will be asking you about your MP3 player since its not something anyone sees anymore. Good on you for finding a solution and being independent of digital streaming services!

Me I use the Fiio M11 Plus, it does have Wifi if you use it as an android device but I just set it to music mode. I have a ton of CDs, like a ridicules amount from my father who bought CDs as his treats to himself, my mother who bought them for the multiple car trips a year, or mine which I also have several hundred from my childhood or I bought after getting back into just listening to music. Spotify and other streaming services are great if you are discovering music, however if you are listening to music that are just your tried and true I love this, DAPs/MP3 players are the way to go.
