Really having a hard time deciding between an iPad Air (4) 64gb with the magic keyboard and pencil or the new Pro 11” and wait/save for the extras. Wait for it to ship and wait for the pencil and keyboard as I save for a few months to get those accessories. Or get the 64 air. My budget is tight, but I’ll get the education discount. The difference between the 256 air and 128 pro is like $50. But the 64 air would give me room for those necessary accessories and no waiting. I sold my MacBook Air laptop to make this happen. I have a desktop iMac I rarely use. Main use for iPad will be writing papers, web browsing, email, bit of zoom, media consumption and streaming, reading, editing photos, note taking and light drawing. Playing some games. It will be my first iPad in many years and I’m really excited. What would you do? Is 64gb enough?
Hi Donavan! I should say that the Air is a great device especially when it’s your first device in years. But Because we usually buy an iPad for 3-4 years, it should be future proof, so I’d go for Pro. Speaking of 11” Pro, I’d honestly go for 11” Pro 2020, because there are going to be lots of discounts now (since 11” Pro 2021 is out). 11 Pro 2021 vs 11 Pro 2020 is not a huge leap in functionality. 12.9 Pro 2021 is a different story but it’s out of the scope here. 64Gb might be challenging for you, so I’d go for 128Gb option. Or 64Gb + SSD drive that you’ll have to carry with you always. So my priority based on your needs (from top to bottom): 11 Pro 2020 (128Gb) Air (128Gb) 11 Pro 2020 (64Gb) Air (64Gb) Oh and speaking of the keyboard: while saving for the magic keyboard you may use the keyboard and mouse from your iMac! You’re welcome! I’d say an iPad would be fine to upgrade every 3 years but of course it’s not a limit. 70 USD / 3 years would be 2 dollars per month. So I don’t think that such a difference is big in a long time planning. So I would go with the Pro here BUT ONLY if you’re sure in the shop that is selling it.
I wouldn’t say “much more” to be honest. Knowing that iPad Air 2 with A8X is in the list of iPadOS 15 supported devices. But anyways Air 4 is a great device!

Hey, 128Gb is definitely better! If you do not have any intense tasks then your benefits will be better sound, better screen, more storage, Face ID. Since it’s refurbished by Apple then the battery should be perfect, so all in all it looks like a good deal.

You may actually check which stores in France are “Apple Premium Reseller”: those are official apple partners and should be trustworthy. For your storage usage (thanks for sharing that - makes a lot easier to suggest anything, by the way) I would think that 64Gb is definitely enough. You might hit the limit from time to time but since you have iCloud and hard drive - that should be fine.

Hey, thank you! So two points here: if adding 50 dollars is ok for you and you know that this iPad Pro still has a good battery - go with iPad Pro. More storage is great for editing videos, it has promotion display which may be better for your artwork. LTE… not sure if it’s needed in an iPad. But anyways it has enough speed even now and is still being updated. But if you have questions about battery and 50 dollars is a big deal, then go with the Air.

I would recommend the Air. The old Pro CPU may get older so you might can’t use them after some years but the Air i think it still could survive, so if you wanna get an iPad, go for the Air.

Specifically for gaming I’d say the Pro is better. It has a better sound (4 speakers) and 120Hz screen. And the CPU has no problem with heavy games at all. However be careful with the battery when buying a used one. Games can drain it really fast.
If it's just basic note taking and pro 2018 is in a good condition - I'd go with the pro. If it's quite a used model (in case you buy it second hand) then Air.
I’d say use formula “best battery+memory for the best price”. Cuz a student might have tons of data stored in the tablet and also he/she definitely doesn’t want to look for a charger in the middle of the day. Screen refresh rate, speakers, camera - is number 2 in this case.
i am not too much of a gamer however i really can tell a difference between 120hz and 60hz. I first try it on ipad pro and after using that device, 60hz just feel sluggish. Waiting for apple making a 90hz or 120hz IPhone for years and they still making 60hz phone. I end up buying asus rog 2 and now asus rog 5 for 144hz.
Lucky you! It seems to be very dependant on humans eyes. Same as some people suffer from OLED screens on a low brightness. So I am honestly happy for you cuz you actually have +1 reason to buy the Pro iPad and you’ll actually see it!
It depends on human eye: some don’t see the difference at all. But if you are a gamer and it’s important for you then… you already know which iPad you gonna buy ;)

Ipad pro 2020 has also more ram, 6gb instead of 4. It’s more future proof and even supports central stage (don’t know whether 2018 model does).
