2. Re-entering space debris is usually targeted to land in an area in between the east coast of Australia and the west coast of south America.
It obviously wasn't in orbit, or it would have disintegrated and burned. Those don't ever land safely.

Giving the extent of the damage, it did not crash landed, it landed fast but the balloon was still going, that thing isn't nearly as damaged as it should of been if it actually crash landed.
