That means the trees were also frozen right ? So this must mean that the trees became nonfunctional and hence the ice could melt due to sun's heat energy. Also this happened like a cycle. So does this mean that trees worked differently back then and because of evolution they have also changed over the time to facilitate adequate intake of CO2 ?

6:20 This would have been a good moment to take an interesting tangent to Terence McKenna's 'Stoned Ape Theory', a fascinating hypothesis which tries to find the causal factor for this - as Yuval Noah Harari calls it in 'Sapiens' - cognitive revolution. Basically the sudden, accelerated and hitherto unexplained dawn of language, creativity and imagination. The theory says psychedelic mushrooms containing the chemical psilocybin suddenly became a part of our ancestor's diets, which had 3 effects- 1. Sharpened sensory inputs improving our defenses and making us better hunters in the grasslands 2. Heightened arousal / Increased tendency to mate = higher chance of passing on genes, and 3. 'The Trip' - abstract thinking. The ability to connect 2 seemingly random thoughts or to come up with concepts such as numbers, math, language, logic etc. This is how the ape like creatures became Gods of the earth. Such a trippy theory.
