  • Rev matching tutorial for INDIA
    Rev matching is used when down-shifting to smooth the transition between gears and prevent shock loads through the transmission. It’s a useful skill for the road and track for both cars and motorcycles.
    When the motorcycle is in motion with the clutch engaged, there is a mechanical connection between the engine and wheels which keep them in sync with each other.
    When shifting, however, depressing the clutch is required. This breaks the mechanical connection between the engine and wheels, and the engine speed is no longer linked to that of the wheels.
    When upshifting, this is usually not a problem, as the tendency of the engine to reduce speed itself without gas will slow it to loosely match the lower speed of the higher gear.
    However, when downshifting, the engine needs to speed up to come to speed with the wheels.
    If the accelerator is not "blipped" (or briefly and quickly pressed to speed up the disengaged engine), the engine will have to take power from the wheels and momentum of the motorcycle to come to speed, which is often accompanied by a sudden deceleration of the vehicle due to the power suddenly going to the engine, often described as a "lurch" or "jolt".
    This sudden external acceleration of the engine through the transmission also causes increased wear on the mechanics of the motorcycle.
    Therefore, a staple of advanced is the "rev match", or "throttle blip", in which the rider quickly brings the engine up to speed with the wheels by use of the throttle.

      @ojastushar8123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @Firebolt it's the other way around....... When you blip the throttle it matches the engine speed and the wheel speed putting minimum strain on the clutch. When you slowly let out the clutch, the clutch is being stressed in getting the engine up to higher rpm in the lower gear (ie: matching wheel and engine speeds).you don't have to trust me. One simple Google search will tell you.

      @The Mad Titan Have you even ridden high end superbikes or a well performing sportsbikes? That's not the point though, It's fun at the same time useful bro. Luck and environment will not always be with you, be prepared to be taking smarter steps for everything. You are speaking from the perspective of a daily city commuter, but when you get out there, it's completely different, and yes it's true that not every biker has a taste for speeds, it means that every rider is different, accordingly with the bikes you're riding. So stop commenting in literally every post on this video trying to justify your cause and belief that is completely self opinionated. No wonder why we don't evolve, adapt, and grow with the rest of the world. Anyways, keep talking about the pro racers and tracks, but never try to go/move out from your city roads and the knowledge that is restricted only to your confinement and uses. Ride safe!

    • @des_nish
      @des_nish 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry but I have to disagree. Blipping helps in matching your engine & rear wheel speed and prevents locking of the rear wheel. And most of the pro racers have auto-blippers & quick shifters in their machines.
      EDIT: Blipping in context with rev-matching.

    • @TrinityRRR
      @TrinityRRR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @The Mad Titan It's not a wasted effort. Stopping distance varies a lot under these two different conditions. The stability and preparation for emergency braking or high end cornering can be easily regulated by the proper use of revmatching and blipping. Blipping just for fun and to make the bike roar more is useless, but not when you're using it with a purpose. And yeah, people like you will always address the more informed riders as Pro riders but you will remain an amateur because you're not willing to learn and understand, you're only trying to debate with others with the limited knowledge you possess.

    Safety measures:
    1. Don't try this from 2nd gear to 1st gear, the engine braking is too much on the 1st gear and you might end up locking the rear wheel and skidding to a fall.
    2. Not much suggested for vehicles without a slipper clutch or an auto blipper, it might do some harm to the engine just for some momentary fun. You can do it under emergency situations where you are not confident to use the brakes for the purpose of engine braking without burning the clutch plates.
    3. Don't put too much pressure on the rear brakes along with engine braking because both the engine braking and rear brakes applies friction to the back wheel so with the dual braking power, the back wheel may lock up if you don't have an ABS for the back wheel.
    4. Don't try this while cornering unless you have a cornering ABS and Slipper clutch.
    Ps: There might be doubt as to why I told about engine braking while the video was about rev matching. Both the things are done almost in a similar way and you can use rev matching while doing engine braking so that you don't burn up the clutch plates.

    • @jassimassis7563
      @jassimassis7563 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VinesnVandies Rev matching might not because the sudden pressure on rear wheel is relatively low. But engine breaking might as the entire pressure of slowing down is transferred only to the rear wheels.

Thing with ninja is that it has a lot of road presence and people often mistake it for a much bigger bike which would be absent on an R3 due to its resemblance to R15, hence lacks the 'special' factor. Also, one has to know how to handle wheel locking, hopping skipping and fish tailing while using sudden gear-braking in the event of emergency braking situations!

      Child of Fire and why are u acting so smart... dude it's not that simple while making an emergency stopping using both brakes and engine braking...some people only rely on the brakes to come to a halt...

    • @mayurborah2111
      @mayurborah2111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Child of Fire may be u can but not everyone....do u know many drivers use the brakes constantly while going downhill this can leads to a brake failure.... that is where engine brakes comes in....I know how to use engine braking but I'm asking him in general to make video on it...so what's your problem in that .

      Also a tip from my side will be.. like see that you are dropping gear coz of speed breaker.. so hold you cluth apply breaks lightly.. once you speed is low enough rev n then downshift, it will rev match ur engine to drop a gear easily. Hope it helps 😊

    I shift this way in my P180 and its really neat and smooth and yes the sound is close to being sexy like in high revving engines. My concern, as an Indian, is will it affect my kmpl ?

    • @iamstrell
      @iamstrell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Doing this wont affect your mileage a lot. Technically by blipping the throttle, you are giving a drop of extra fuel to the engine. Which in turn will reduce the mileage. But in a very light way.

    • @rob-qy4km
      @rob-qy4km 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a huge impact to the fuel efficiency. But helps a lot in bringing stability or slowing down the bike before cornering, bumpers or emergency stops. Its a price worth paying

    Some ppl is saying in comments that 'rev matching f's up the clutch , I'm an engineer, so I know better... bla bla bla' .... Dude, tell me one thing , if you are slowly releasing the clutch , time under tension (or friction) for clutches is way more than rev matching.... How is that better?

    You are a very good orator and i like your voice, but you are wrong buddy. I think steps are like,
    1- You hold the clutch
    2- Blip the throttle
    3- Downshift
    and not the 3rd and 2nd steps reversed. Rather you will be putting stress on your gearbox!

    Using breaks is much safer and cheaper. You are doing it even in case of urgent stopping. Engine breaking when you plan to stop at a distance ahead or when you are going downhill. Indian traffic is already reducing our clutch life, why wearing it further. Rev matching cannot be perfected, there will be wear.

    I learnt it from video games, I first started it on my dad's 125 years back and he was like "you will break my engine"😂. Once you get hang of it you can do it in 2nd gear too even at low rmp and speed. Just not first gear(too jerky).
