one of the major failures of the campaign was how useless your wingmen felt. It's great to feel like you're an important part of the team, but when you're the ONLY part of the team, the whole thing just feels like godmoding. You have an x-wing and an a-wing in your squad but we need the y-wing to get the TIEs away from the corvette? What are we doing here?
I assume the icy asteroids are compromising near-range sensors? But that doesn't make sense, it's a listening post so sensors are the ONLY thing the station should have
Since I'll likely not ever have the opportunity to play this (these) game(s) myself, I'd say this is the next best thing. I love air/space vehicle POV games. Was a big fan of Star Fox series and, of course, the original Star Wars wire-frame-graphics, attack-on-the-Death Star simulation game, among many others, such as the F-14 Tomcat simulator game, "Afterburner."
The venerable Y-Wing. The Star Wars equivalent of using a Vietnam era F-4 Phantom as a primary attack/bomber in the 1st Gulf War. (Yes I know F-4s were there, but only in the G pattern for attacking enemy radars... it wasn't used to bomb troops or vehicles or to directly engage enemy aircraft and indeed was the last conflict the US used the Phantom in any configuration at all).
Just found your channel yesterday and I love the content. Every time I see someone playing these games, their always yelling random stuff, and I preferably like quiet gameplay, so that I can watch, and also enjoy the sound quality. You fit that perfectly. Amazing! Keep up the good work!
Get it in VR, then sit on your couch or in your gaming chair and use a HOTAS; I place the throttle by my left thigh, and the stick between my knees. That’s obviously a pretty natural and comfortable position (which is why the majority of real world military aircraft are set up that way), but it’s also the same way your hands are positioned in the VR cockpit. So if you move your left hand to increase the throttle, you will see your VR hand do it. Pull the stick back to climb, your VR hand will do it…It’s one of those little things people don’t think about that really adds to the immersion and helps trick your brain into believing you’re in an X-wing cockpit instead of your living room. Squadrons is not perfect, but it excels like few others games in VR, especially if you are a big OG Trilogy SW fan. I bet it’s a completely different experience on a monitor, and I doubt I would have stayed with it for as long as I have playing that way…but even three years later, chasing a TIE through an asteroid field in an A-wing, with full power to engines and while missiles, explosions, and laser blasts are all around you, is still a pretty unforgettable experience in VR. The sound design is excellent as well. When you add it all up, for sure the closest I’ve ever come to feeling like I’m in the SW universe.
The Y wing or any ship with a turret gun should be able to auto fire at incoming missiles or enemy fighters. But that option don't seem to exist for now. In X-wing Alliance you could do that in the freighter by assigning targets for the two turret guns.
Y wing dude doing all the work : blasting turrets, comm antenna, vents, core, dozens of ties....while X wing and A wing pilots just rubbing their dicks! and when the corvette is destroyed : "oooh.... five... what have you done.... " Thats why i absolutely hate those games: they give you wingmen that never do shit.
Y-wings were my favorites cause they weren't the almighty x-wing but they were heavy hitters and look like an "old" spaceship which was a wild concept for me as a kid....spaceships cant be old!?
Interference from the Asteroid belt would be wreaking havoc on them due to all the moving rocks. They would have to rely on visual scanners and small craft patrol. Having said that, if you come in where there is a gap in patrols and station visuals....
@@christopherrussell3839 heres the problem with that, for a while there they were essentially flying straight at a bunch of windows and what seemed to be a control tower at the top of the facility. most of it is hand waved off as they couldnt see them because of sensors but Star wars ships are noted to at many times focus on visual range combat in the first place not just sensors.

Man this game looks... disappointing. Misused U-Wings. Rebels and Imperials on the same radio channels. The absolute worst sensor array. Incredibly slow and asinine combat. Why would you take out the listening arrays *before* you took out the communications array? Zip in. Blow up the communications array, and then just blow up the reactor. Who cares about the listening arrays when you're blowing up the whole base? I wanted DCS but with X-Wings. Or at least the old Tie Fighter game. This is is the worst aspects of a modern game, but none of the things that made the classics great.
I don't know why there seems to be an unwillingness to recreate the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter style of play in a modern engine. It would sell like mad. In either of those games you would be getting lit up going anywhere near a space station, and it made the combat feel high stakes and intense. Doing a Y-Wing or TIE Bomber run was hard. Imagine that with this engine and those games' mechanics.
What game is this? It seems so poorly written. Having fighters and a corvette come out of hyperspace in an asteroid field? One has to wonder how many ships were lost colliding with rocks as they decelerated from light speed. And then they jammed the sensors while practically on top of a listening outpost? The listening outpost was already in visual range when the rebels came out of hyperspace. They would’ve been spotted on sensors immediately, except this game would have us believe that a space station’s sensors don’t extend much further than its own diameter. And why was the Imperial commander using rebel frequencies to talk to the crews aboard the station?
I'm not sure I can even call this a game, let alone a flight game. This looks more like a Rebel Assault type FMV based rail shooter, and a very terrible one at that.
The only thing I took from this is a couple of big mouthed women shouting orders at you. Got damn. Does Star Wars not believe in a male protagonist or having men in charge anymore?
Always surprised in Star Wars. What is the point in all these huge battleships and stations, and hundreds of anti-aircraft guns on them, if in battle they are completely useless, and act as whipping boys for fighters that are millions of times cheaper than them? And yet we see it time after time. Huge leviathans are destroyed by a bunch of hicks on flying mopeds, and all their numerous anti-aircraft batteries are firing somewhere into the void. Star Wars is devoid of any logic.
