BTL Y-Wing I would imagine if they added it in the next movie it would have a back turrent (like the clone wars bubble turrent) and 4 engines this time for its lack of speed in the past but that's my idea
I love that Rogue One finally showed the casuals what an Y-Wing actually can do. I was BLOWN away in the cinema :D It was my favorite starfighter ever since and I really hoped we will see them in action in this movie but what we got was even better than my wettest dreams.
Amazing how the same model of the Y-Wing ship lasted over two decades of its life cycle from The Clone Wars and The Galactic Civil War while it went through heavy modifications.
Y-Wings are like the A-10 Warthog of the Star Wars universe. Not the fastest or the flashiest craft, but put in the right situation it can really do some damage. Even the "ion torpedo" reminds me of the Warthog's GAU-8 cannon.
The Rebels scene of the two Y-Wings disabling two Imperial Star Destroyers involved firing their Ion cannons and proton torpedoes at a nearby sun to create an electromagnetic pulse blast that cripples the two capital ships.
Slowest fighter in the Alliance fleet. However, heavily armed, well armored, and an extremely stable gun platform. When I played X-Wing as a kid, it may not have been flashy, but the Y-Wing never let me down.
Yep line up a TIE and those 2 closely placed laser cannons make short work of the TIE. Much easier shooting stuff down compared to the X-Wing with it's 4 laser cannons which are placed so far away from each other, that hitting stuff becomes a nightmare.

I loved these ships all the way from my early childhood in '95 - they were the first ships I flew in when playing X-Wing. Back then, I often called them "Duck Ships" due to the bill shape at the front.
2:18 it is so unbelievably cool to see the Y wing go in straight ship to ship combat with two tie interceptors and win. The Y wing is usually just portrayed as a dedicated bomber, and not getting into one on one dogfights
When playing Star Wars Empire at War, I don't consider the X-wings to be the bigger threat. I consider the Y-wings to be a bigger threat, especially in the swarms the Rebel AI likes to create. I always have at least 2-3 Tartan Patrol Cruisers above every Imperial planet for this reason, as the Y-wings have this habit of bringing down my Star Destroyers when I first learned the game. Never gonna make that mistake again.
I've always been a Y-Wing fan since 1997 (first time seeing Episode IV) and have a lego version on my desk right now. Hope they come back in The Last Jedi!
Seeing how the Y-Wings were deployed in the Clone Wars kind of reminds of the the WWII SBD Dauntless dive-bomber, how it was deployed in real life and in the 2019 Midway film.

The released-in-1993 X-Wing game missions involving the Y-Wing limit the projectile load to the eight proton torpedoes that are useful when the player party needs to take down large ships such as Corellian corvettes with two shots per Corvette and the Star Destroyers' shield generator globes located above the bridge.

Greetings from Guatemala, notice that I found Y-wings bomber in the trash and I remembered the scene from Star Wars and I said this is pure gold, it is missing pieces but I cleaned it and now it is in good condition, the bad thing is that this toy is discontinued if not I bought the missing pieces but here he is safe and sound, greetings 😊😊

I hated the fact that, in the orginal trilogy, the Y-Wing was used as so much cannon fodder. Oddly enough, my paternal grandparents lived not far from RAF Woodbridge, where the USAF had their A-10s ... so I must have had a thing for slow, fugly, planes. But then, like the A-10 herself, in the right situation, there is nothing comparable. She may be slow, but she is tough, and hard-hitting. Was glad to see her moment in the sun in 'Rogue One', taking out that Imperial I ISD, before Hammerhead 5 (MTFBWT ...), slammed into it, taking out the second, before it dove into the Shield Generator ...
I love the y wing ship. She's like an old classic car you treasure and can't bare to part with. She's not pretty, She's not flashy but she's got it were it counts. It's heart breaking seeing a y wing fighter get destroyed
It's cool that in the first Rebels shot they still have blue bolts. It really shows how the rebels are just scraping together everything they can find.
The Y-Wing is fast enough to catch up to a Tie Interceptor and destroy it. So it's not as "Slow" as legends made them out to be. they even had a max speed of 2940 G whereas the Z-95 AF-4 Headhunter had a max speed of 2780 G and the T-65 X-Wing has 3700 G
The 'slowness' of the Y-wing is primarily in mobility. They don't corner very well, and they have to reduce speed during bombing runs, which is what 'old low and slow' refers to in their nickname.
Furyou Miko but they can make very effective Snubfighters. Not as well as the X-Wing but it's better than say an ARC-170 (Which was slower than the Y-Wing at 2600 G's)
The lore says it's the maneuverability and acceleration that is the issue. Back in the day playing Rouge squadron my opinion is: It's turn rate is abysmal, and it's acceleration is even more so. Top speed isn't too bad, but it sure takes it's time getting there, and when you are there... it turns like a sleepy Hutt (that's Luke's words not mine 😂) IIRC, wasn't that much tougher damage wise over the X wing. (I tended to fly the N1 or the A wing. )

Sorry, but the battles the Y-wings are in during Rebels feels just too quiet, soft, barely tense or any risk, and generally unimpressive compared to the Y-wings in the Clone Wars.
I absolutely agree, the pacing just feels a bit too slow and even an exploding ship lacks a certain impact in Rebels. It's also one of the reasons I chose to put the Clone Wars scenes before the Rebels scenes in this video.

Alduin the Anti-Dragonborn Ion Torpedoes were a Rebel invention. They are Proton Torpedoes modified with Ion Warheads which can deliver more powerful EMPs than the Standard Ion Cannon. And the BTL-B ion Cannon seems to fire hybrid Blaster/Ion bolts instead of the A4s Ion Burst.
I have heard that there are two versions of the story (one in canon and another in legends, possibly?), and the pilot is one of two different people depending on which version of the story you consider

The Y-Wings stolen seem to be the 2 Seater S3 Variant hence why it looks more Bulky and has many of the BTL-B Y-Wings Design Aspects (Just without the Hull Plating).

Ever since ESB and RoTJ, I loved the Y-Wing over the X-Wing ... even had a plastic (Bandai?) version of one, but managed to damage the landing gear, so it never sat right anymore ... If I had enough disposable money (sadly I'm disabled, and poor ...), I would buy the Lego UCS version in a heartbeat... but one look at the prices on BrickLink ... yesh ... eyewatering ... but probably worth a lot more in the future ...

The Y-Wings stolen seem to be the 2 Seater S3 Variant hence why it looks more Bulky and has many of the BTL-B Y-Wings Design Aspects (Just without the Hull Plating).

Nuclearius Brasil I think the Rebels had a few Hundred Y-Wings by Rogue one. with the bulk being old war surplus fighters for the Planetary Defense Security Forces. Considering how many get destroyed per battle this is a reasonable assumption.

Ever since ESB and RoTJ, I loved the Y-Wing over the X-Wing ... even had a plastic (Bandai?) version of one, but managed to damage the landing gear, so it never sat right anymore ...
If I had enough disposable money (sadly I'm disabled, and poor ...), I would buy the Lego UCS version in a heartbeat... but one look at the prices on BrickLink ... yesh ... eyewatering ... but probably worth a lot more in the future ...
I've seen the newest normal Lego Y-Wing (75172, I think), and it's actually fairly detailed and a heck of a lot cheaper.
BTL Y-Wing Me too ... but if you do a size comparison, the UCS version is 2-3x as big ... I don't know what the brick count is, but wouldn't surprise me if it is over 1k ...
Side note: I didn't realize C-3P0 was capable of bending his knees like that lol.
