I am from India, and following religiously the cricket from 1969. The foundation of fast bowling cricket was laid by the MRF Foundation led by Dennis, and that was the game changer. Those days, he and Jeff used to send shivers even to listeners on the Radio, such was the fear the duo had created. I distinctly remember Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket squads, and other events. I think he is one of the greatest the cricket has produced

Many a fast bowlers had played for Australia. But still he is remembered and revered.Current generations may not know him . We still remeber for the tenacity and aggression he espoused. We in Chennai remember him for his special contribution for MRF pace foundation. There is no doubt that he is one of the all-time best fast bowlers the world has seen. But what kind of humanbeing he was is very debatable. He constantly sledged and abused opponents, very contrary to the spirit of the game. I will never forget his kicking of Javed Miandad in 1981. Even to date it horrifies many. With the English and Austrialian control of ICC at the time, the incident was swept under the rug.
If he had done that today, the result would be different.

Javed Miandad was no paragon of virtue, was he? He would constantly taunt his opponents while at the crease. Though completely objectionable the kick was, provocation for it could well have come from Miandad. Only supposing it here. No facts are known. But a likely prospect I would say.

We the people of Chennai ,Tamil Nadu salute Dennis Lillee. In a way he is the father of fast bowling in India.! His initiative with MRF was a pioneering and ground breaking project. Before that India was just spin masters. Dennis Lillee and Jonty Rhodes are two pillars of modern Indian Cricket. One for lethal bowling and the other for fielding. Hope BCCi sufficiently recognises them. Just to say a billion thanks.

I well remember watching The Great Dennis Lillee at the MCG for the Centenary Test.
I was in the Southern Stand 3 or 4 rows back from the fence, Dennis would start his run-up with one foot on the fence in order to propel him from the onset of his run-up. The crowd chanted Lillee , Lillee , Lillee as he sprinted toward the facing English batsman.... I thought of the fear that must have gone through the batsman's mind as Dennis approached .... the chanting noise was deafening , and with every ball Dennis was on the money. He Never strayed off the stumps.
Wow Weee he was and is still THE BEST !

Lillee caught Willey bowled Dilley in UK, 1981. There was another fast bowler with him beside Thompson. I think his name was Walker (very tall guy). The spinner was probably Mallet. This was against Mike Denness' English side in 1974-75. Doug Walters and Ross Edwards were also there. Marsh was the keeper. Ian and Gregg Chappell were at the forefront. Hence, England lost 4-1, and West Indies lost 5-1 the same year. I was a teenager then, and was keen in listening to the radio commentary. I remember Alan McGilvray, the Aussie commentator, and also John Arlott, his English counterpart.

I think the Lillee c Willey b Dilley occurred in 1979.Graham Dilley had just started his Test career at age 20.
It may have happened in 1981 as all three appeared in that series.Dilley had his finest hour at Headingley in 1981 partnering Ian Botham in a partnership of 117 during that amazing fightback!
Lillee is arguably THE greatest fast bowler ever!😊

The greatest but with 2 years off to recover from a back injury his records would never be broken
His contribution to the MRF pace foundation in Chennai laid a path, no doubt good, to as we call today trundlers maskerading as fast bowlers
Real fast bowlers were men just like the batsmen facing them, without Roman body armour and never shied away from a bouncer
