People often incorrectly think about the homeless as a stagnant population. Fact is, very few people are born into homelessness. Homeless people are middle class people who lived paycheck to paycheck and ran into difficulties. So anyplace where cost of living is high will likely foster a homeless population. Want to fix homelessness? Fix the middle class and stop the bleeding.

Most of it is a flat, concrete jungle, suburban mess, hot and humid. There are some good points to it as the caller identified such as housing and economy but that's about it. I agree with Dave on this one since the caller is already debt free. If you like Cali, like being close to family, like having easy access to outdoors and the beach then stay in Cali because you ain't gonna have any of that in Texas. The state flipped from red to blue in 92, there had been a solid foundation set for people and businesses to continue to move there. For moving out of California, Texas is not in the list with such insane property taxes. I mean California property taxes are not cheap, but are better than other states. While it is true that texas has no income tax, in the end is kind of the same thing as California where is expensive. I don't understand how they can pay such insane taxes for buying a house that is cheap. But, if it's for renting I imagine that is cheap. Maybe?Either way,, I don't think moving from cal.

While Californians and Texans are proud of their state, only Californians have things to be proud about! ;) TX cities are severely overrated; the landscape, generally uninspiring. There's a lot of tech jobs as well as many more companies moving from California to Austin. The price of living is more affordable and Texas does NOT have any state income taxes. Definitely better than California for sure! Texas is also more affordable than California in more ways than one. California has its problems and so does Illinois. There has been so called consumption tax (VAT) proposals to replace property tax, but certain interests don't like the idea. Many large businesses currently get huge tax breaks to locate in Texas, there is a possibility that others avoid significant taxes because of special deals. In theory a VAT would eliminate the backdoor exemptions. Gov Greg Abbott said the consumption tax is the way to go in a Tweet, but that's a far as it goes. Most of the VAT proposals exempt groceries prepared at home, rent, fuel house payments from the tax to make it less regressive. No editorial writers have taken up the consumption tax, probably because no specifics of how a VAT might function in Texas have been proposed. A bill proposing a VAT was introduced in 2021, but it never got out of committee. To some the VAT is an ideal means to get large corporations to pay taxes that they now avoid, to others it is the Mark of the Beast, a potential tax on every transaction.

Wow this is almost my exact life situation as well. I live in Roseville, CA and recently accepted a job offer in Dallas Texas with the possibility of the job being in Austin Texas. I can vouch for the caller when he mentioned housing prices being almost double the price. Most of Roseville’s neighborhoods have houses going for 600k-1.5 mil. I’m talking normal suburb type houses. The mass exodus out of California is definitely real.

Don't mean to be mean, but Roseville is way overkill. Ya'll don't have beautiful weather, beaches or mountains . Maybe only the jobs and demand are supporting the high prices, what happens when either of the two drops? Nothing to support, watch out below

Wow, what an opportunity Angelo. are you liking it here? Also, any loved ones who want to move to Texas, I'm a real estate agent from Dallas (Frisco, specifically) who's lived here most of my life. Would love to help simplify their journey(s)! Info is in my 'About" section

We left Roseville for Georgia. It sounds like Dave has no idea how expensive Roseville is. If the caller just avoids the actual City of Austin, there are very nice areas that are still way less than Roseville.

@@martinover7927 AGREED. I don't know why they over spoke the caller without doing THEIR research. I'm a realtor and the market is definitely almost double.
