Boatman's cabins were designed to cram people in a small space to allow more cargo storage. We had a 62ft Stoke boat with one fitted and you could count on one hand when it was used. If we are lucky enough to return to the canals I wouldn't select a boat with a traditional working boatman's cabin. It's not practical in the modern age. I prefer a reverse layout with kitchen at stern and main bedroom at bow.
