Vietnam veteran and local author Charles Hunt discusses his book, "Through the Water and the Fire: A Swift Boat Sailor's Story" with the Pennington Public Library Director Kim T. Ha
Charles Hunt was a graduate of Hopewell Valley Central High School, who, after dropping out of college in 1967, joined the Navy Reserve in hopes of avoiding the draft and combat in Vietnam. Instead the Navy sent him to Vietnam's notorious Mekong Delta on a 50 foot Swift Boat as aft gunner patrolling and running special operations with various types of fighting units. Based on his letters and audios sent home during his days serving on a Swift Boat, Hunt allows the reader to glance through a window into the mind, heart, and emotions of a Vietnam combat sailor as well as glimpse his reflections of the Vietnam era as a retired veteran decades later.
