UK national here, my first car was a rust bucket of a mini that I spend many weekends making look pretty much exactly like the car you got there. Many happy memories and took my wife on our first date in it, we are still together today 24 years later.

The design is so close to the old wheels that refinishing them in a polish would be very similar and cheaper in the end but I do like it over the black wheels
i grew up in the 1970's with "Mag" wheels... loved them, i thought they looked great... problem was they were insanely flammable... once Magnesium starts burning even water cant put it out as it supplies its own oxygen
I'm from the UK and learnt to drive in a classic Mini. Ended up buying a brand new 1991 Mini Cooper which I loved to bits. Nice to see a Mini across the Pond.

I have the same car. Mine is left hand drive with factory air. Lots of electrical issues. Still sorting them. It gets more grins than any other car I have ever owned. I am 70 so there have been many many cars. Built in Japan in 96 I think then shipped to New Zealand then shipped to America and titled as a 1974 Rover. Crazy! Have fun. Perfect choice with the Mini Lites..
I was going to do a similar wheel setup on my 91 British import. Decided to downsize the front brakes to Cooper S 7.5s in order to run 10×6 wheels. Really transforms the look of these cars (any shiny new wheel really). Nice job on getting it road safe.
Classic look. Love the old minis. Have owned two of them myself but that was when I was still living in England. Very fun cars.
Looks great with the new rims. Now get some Hi-Los on it and set the corner weights up to make it handle really well. Some negative camber radius arm plates and extended lower arms on the front will make it really quick round a track...

Pro-tip: when torquing lug nuts, never torque them sequentially around the wheel. Instead, use a cross - hub paattern, ideally torque bolts sequentially opposite one another
I love it. This car is also my dream car, or one of my dream cars at least. Those tires do look a little big but it's not too bad. Still love his car and everything about it. Especially the red interior. My Mini will have to have some red seats too. I'm excited to see what comes next for the Classic Mini. I'm always looking for these cars for a good price, but probably not anytime soon cuz I'm young and don't have much money for a nice car. But hopefully in the long run I'll find a nice Classic Cooper S to buy. The Cooper S is the ideal car obviously.

Those look very sharp, and the slightly bigger tire is a good choice as well. Fills the wheel-well a bit better.
Looks great! Nicely done. I am a bit concerned that 1993 counts as "classic" but that is a me problem.
Love the wheels. They really look a lot better. Not so much the ride height though. It looks way higher than even stock and Mini's love to be low. Low and with just a touch of negative camber to set them off.
Oh and the carpet - throw a new one in there to go with the seats. They look great then you have that worn out rag underfoot. The carpets in them are really easy to swap too.

I'm thinking the reaction time of magnesium to vinegar is not instant especially with oxidation. IMO the vinegar test didn't prove anything considering there are probably other alloys in the magnesium to prevent corrosion.
Gotta check the fronts at full left/right lock for clearance of the flares.
Looks good. I have to get new tires on my mini....just determined the ones on there at 14 yrs old! Look fine and lots of tread...but that's too old at 60 mph!
With the bigger tires it has the same proportions as a (very very small) monster truck

Good choice. I had a '59 mini in 1963 and, it came with original Minilite magnesium wheels.

That looks way better. It's what I did (though 13") on my 95. You didn't mention, but 42 ft/lb for the lug nut torque settings.
That Mini mania must make a huge mark up ordering these parts in. JBW are very cheap as all rep wheels. Should order direct 👌🏻
Lovely job ,these cars will go on for ever all body parts still in production. Some are going electric because of emissions but still a lot of ice versions around.
It’s all a matter of taste, but I prefer the old Rose Petals. Shoulda refinished those.

Weird how the paint looks pretty good under the interior light but when the sun hit it it didn’t look so good. Instead of scratching the front take them off and do the back where it wouldn’t be seen. You have become a great presenter keep up the great work.
$1200 seems a lot. Minisport USA has 6x12 minilight (4) and Falken 165/60/12 (4) for approx $572.00. Shipping is $176-$260 or $440.00 to Colorado. Not sure if this is your package but it’s worth shopping around. Nice little mini that’s only getting better . 1380 perhaps?

because he does little mechanical work... Tommy can change the windshield wiper blades but thats about it... you'd think guys that do nothing but cars would be better at working on CARS... of course us guys of more diminutive means can do alot more

Not sure if I like it better or not but either way it is still a classic Mini so it is cool. Hope it drives better with the new rubber which is the most important part.

You old wheels look like John Brown Wheels replica wheels. You could have them refurbished in white to match the roof, which is a common color combination.

When I think of Mini I think of a Mini in a repair shop.
Why? They're generally very reliable. Can't speak about the new BMW Mini, I'm talking classic Mini.

Also answering your why questions is as a waste of my valuable time as answering as to why fire is hot. If you’re not aware of the well known extreme unreliability then you obviously have no clue about vehicles, especially those here in the UK mate.

A really nice addition using Minilite style wheels especially in the silver you choose a good job well done. Did you use a torque wrench set to the correct torque settings it’s important on any alloy wheels?

To be honest mate, I can't understand why someone would put black wheels on a black car. became quite popular a while ago, but to me it just deadened the look of the wheels and didn't make the car pop out or look its best at all. Those polished alloy 12" minilites look WAY better. I hope you have plenty of good miles in the little car - and you won't have an issue with 165/60/12s - that's what the standard 145/80/10 scales up to while keeping the rolling rotation the same as factory (within the legal 4% tolerance) on the early models.....and 165/60/12 is the correct sizing for the wheels on the later cars. If the wheels are wide enough, a 185/50 would be an even closer match (within 1%) if you can find them and like the low profile stance (and if they will fit without rubbing!)
These wheels do look better.
The one thing I noticed is that whoever mounted the tires on the rims doesn't seem to know what the yellow dot on the sidewall is. It's the balance point of the tire and should be lined up with the valve stem of the wheel.
Right hand drive? Doesn't really matter as it will spend most of it's time in the shop. I served a mission in South Africa and we used VWs primarily. We would trade them in at 50Kmiles as at 52K they would eat a valve. In Northern Rhodesia, we had a Morris Minor with the Odometer at 185.000 miles and it ran like clockwork. All they did was to adjust the valves and change oil & filter. We bought a mini in Joeburg based on the Morris and were astonished at the room in the back seat compared to the Volkswagon but it spent lots of time in the shop, not what we expected based upon the experience with the Morris. A lesson learned: a technical tour de force can have disadvantages compared to ancient engineering with wagon leaf springs and solid axle in the Morris This was 1960 so the MINI had been out just a few years and had lots of problems. We were glad to let go of the MINI and go back to the Bug.

Wheels look much nicer. And you only added about 8mm in sidewall height. Should ride well. As for the price...well, its tough to find just a $1200 set of tires for trucks like a Raptor.
