    Excellent. Logical and clear. I like the immediate practice words. Perhaps if you.stood on the other side of the board, your head would not obscure when you write on the left side of the board? A right-handed teacher usually stands to the left to avoid reaching across the board.

    I was looking for a video to show how to write shorthand. You have explained it very well and also with you writing it out, as shown, it helps tremendously how to understand the meaning of the shorthand strokes. Well done.

    I like the explanation. Just one small suggestion. Is it possible to stand to the side when writing to see how you actually form the characters. I'm trying to find a polite way to say that your head is in the way. Sometimes I get in trouble for being too direct and to the point,
    I'm still finding your way of teaching to be beneficial. I appreciate your time and work providing a course that is free to me. I'm learning shorthand for personal use and to have a nifty skill. It may come in handy one day.

    • @theshorthandprofessor3981
      @theshorthandprofessor3981  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You're perfectly fine! This was my first video I posted and I quickly realized I would be better off by standing to the left of the whiteboard as opposed to the right as in this video. I now have accustomed the habit of stepping slightly back after every outline which you will notice in my subsequent videos, so that viewers can get a better image of it.
      Thank you for having the courage to bring this to my attention.

      I'm still a beginner, but I'm thinking it might depend on how much space each way takes up. So far my letters take up a lot of space, and I'm learning with dotted paper too😂

    • @theshorthandprofessor3981

      Most words starting with a consonant will just use an "N" before it to show negation, whether it starts with an "un", "in" or even the non-negating "en". If a word starts with a vowel, then most times you would add the U to the N, and the E to the N, and for words like immature and irresponsible, you would just add the initial vowel "E" to show it is the negating form.

    Sorry...which version of Gregg is this? I’m just starting out but have already purchased a set of books and would like to not confuse myself. My books aren’t the very first version but are supposed to be the last he worked on before he died. “Simplified,” from 1953-ish.

    • @lynk8951
      @lynk8951 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure it's the original and not the simplified. He talks about using the one from the courtroom days before it got made easier to learn for secretarial use.

      It is Anniversary Gregg mixed with a bit of pre-Anniversary Gregg, and I will be posting lessons on my advanced techniques used by the experts of the day like Charles Swem and Dupraw, which is testimonial, verbatim-style Gregg.

    • @theshorthandprofessor3981
      @theshorthandprofessor3981  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you'd like I can give you a list of books to start with if you want to learn the version and versions I'm teaching from. ... I will say the Functional Method books 1 and 2 are a good set to start with because they contain a key to the lessons. Just make sure they are the black books with a red line going down the middle. Also a Gregg Shorthand dictionary that includes the anniversary edition, anything from 1947 and before. (later versions of Gregg are not as advanced) ... I hope that helps for now, you can find them relatively inexpensive in Ebay.
