MACAU GRAND PRIX MUSEUM

The Macau Grand Prix began in 1954, initially as a race for amateur enthusiasts.
Due to its popularity and demand, it quickly flourished into a professional race meeting.
The newly-renovated Macau Grand Prix Museum opened recently in 2020. It is a 3-level museum featuring the history and rise of GT, MotoGP, Formula3 Races. The
Museum tour starts at Level 2 for the Moto GP. In this level features the event champions and their powerful motor bikes.
In 1967, the Macau motorcycle race was introduced, which today is the famous Moto GP World Cup.
Level 1 of the Museum features the Formula Series Cars. A Filipino Arsenio Laurel, son of the former President Jose P. Laurel became World Champion. He dubbed the World Record Champion in 1962 and 1963 of the Macau Grand Prix. Unfortunately, Laurel died in an accident in Macau Grand Prix on 1967 that led to his untimely death.
In 1983, the Macau Grand Prix embarked upon its Formula 3 era and began to feature young drivers on their way to Formula 1.
A sportscar race was introduced in 2008, and the Macau GT Cup quickly became popular.
The Guia Race was introduced in 1972, and has become a perennial favourite in the event.
To this day, Macau Grand Prix features these events every year as part of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
The 3.8 miles Guia Circuit features a combination of fast straights and tight corners recognized as one of the most challenging circuits in the world.

I’ve learned from this tour that we once had a race champion in the person of Arsenio Laurel, son of the former Philippine President Jose P. Laurel. Dodjie as he was fondly called was the first person to win back-to-back Macao Grand Prix Championship. In honor to his greatness, one corner of the Grand Prix Museum is dedicated to Dodjie Laurel with his Lotus 22-Ford which won him the 1962 and 1963 races is on display at the museum.
