Especially loved that the "Daniel" intro made this list-one of my all-time favorite Elton tunes! It would be great to have a full lesson on "Daniel" (or some of the others on this solid list).
Oh yeah, that’s one of my all time favorites! I don’t even know how much of those first few minutes of instrumental brilliance, would qualify as an “intro”? Hard to say!
I used to focus on classical pieces as a child but it’s only now I like the Elton John pieces , interesting but I feel classical gives a good foundation for piano playing too
Exactly the same story with me. Had a great classical teacher who was a fabulous concert pianist, but I wanted to play like Elton. My favorites came from his early ‘70’s stuff because, well, it was back in the early ‘70’s! The whole Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album blew me away and my favorites were the title cut, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, I’ve Seen That Movie Too and Ballad Of Danny Bailey. Then I bought Madman Across The Water with Tiny Dancer and Levon. Learned them all at 10. Nice job with Beato! I’m sure you’ll see a big leap in your subs. Good luck!
Maybe not as a best "intro" candidate, but I think one of Elton's best piano performances (and Bernie Taupin's best lyrical works) is "Ticking". Not very well known or played much, but absolute genius!
I'm a huge EJ fan, and recently got a book of his sheet music. I can hear that it's close but not the same. Love that you showed the actual intros. Thanks!
I’m a big fan too. Those books are generally arranged and slightly tweaked in order to be easier for the reader. Also, Elton is a great improviser, so he was always varying his intros slightly as the years went on! Thanks for watching.
Elton was the composer who exposed my ear to sus chords, pedal tones and non-root chord tones in the bass. It opened up so many harmonic possibilities without straying into upper extensions or dominant chords.
Your Song is probably my go to song if I just randomly sit down at a Piano.. i like sitting down during Christmas at Costco and picking a few tunes as they are always selling electric pianos/keyboards!
Love Elton, I'd also love it if you could make a complete tutorial (like the other ones you do) for "your song" and "yellow brick road". Thanks for the great content man!
That was a great video. I saw you on Rick Beato’s channel and came over to subscribe to yours. Your perfect pitch is impressive. Elton is one of the greats. Thanks for the video. Do you like Erroll Garner? It would be cool to see a video or series of videos on him. I wish I could figure out the intro to Octave 103 from Closeup in Swing. It’s pretty cool sounding. His Gershwin and Kern album slaps pretty hard too. Foggy Day in London has a little bit of it all. Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us and stay well.
I hadn't made the connection before, but hearing some of these intros by themselves is making me see stylistic similarities between Elton and Randy Newman that I hadn't previously noticed.
Yes, I realize you can only choose 10 and they turned out very well. Maybe you'll listen to the Blue Moves album, which is musically the most interesting to me and among my three favorite Elton albums. There are also jazzy songs here, for example. "Idol, or Tonight that has a classical touch" .Ballads that you might particularly like as a piano player. A strong album with also nice intros see "Idol"
Ive always liked Elton John, but it was kinda a generation behind me and I listed to mostly hiphop as a kid so Im surprised that I was so familiar with each of these just through cultural osmosis lol
Hey, would you be able to do a lesson on the intro to the song “I guess that’s why they call it the blues” yours seem to be the most accurate to the album! I’ve listened and checked out a lot of great tutorials but everytime I listened to them and compared it to the album, I kept hearing something off. Like for example the first chord is exactly as you played it, a C triad in second inversion on middle C , while everyone is playing it an octave higher. Would really love to hear that one broken down in more detail! 😅 Awesome work anyways!
Left out "Dont let the Sun Go down on me" intro from (from duet version with George Michael even?) Really? Not on this list? CMon man. Otherwise good video great playing and good tips. Come on....just do that one song. Im sure you have some tips. He played it differently as yrs went on. ....you can do it!. 👍
Especially loved that the "Daniel" intro made this list-one of my all-time favorite Elton tunes! It would be great to have a full lesson on "Daniel" (or some of the others on this solid list).
Great suggestion! I’ll add to my list.
thx
I came into this thinking Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding would be on here - just goes to show how amazingly deep his catalogue is 🎹
Oh yeah, that’s one of my all time favorites! I don’t even know how much of those first few minutes of instrumental brilliance, would qualify as an “intro”? Hard to say!

Rick Beato sent me, and I have to say ... he hasn't been wrong yet!
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" clinched it. I had to subscribe.
Glad to have you! Thanks so much 🙏🏻

Same here, I know how you feel! Thank you for checking it out 🙏🏻

more elton john, and complete songs, please!
i think you're the best at teaching these
I’d love to do that!
Skyline pigeon's intro are simply the best!!
I always wanted to learn Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Adding to the list. Great idea!
Love the explanations for pedal tones etc. Made so much sense. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching! Glad it was clear :)

the Piano version of Skyline Pigeon is one of my favorite songs ever from anyone anywhere.
Love the intro to Little Jeanie
My favorite song by him along with tiny dancer
Looking forward to watching your channel. 4th year student at 74! Getting my new-to-me baby grand today. Saw you on Rick Beato's channel
🤘🏻🤘🏻fantastic! Welcome to the channel. What kind of piano?
@@pierrejpiscitelli Knabe model 50 built in the 70’s reconditioned by Robert Estrin of living pianos. See him on TH-cam as well
@@TheA1tiguy Amazing. Congratulations!
6:31 can you feel the love tonight
8:28 your song
I can relate to this. When I should have been learning my classical pieces, I was figuring out Elton's chord progressions and intros. 😂
Also with you on Elton's 80s material. He released some great songs in that decade.
Elton was the composer who exposed my ear to sus chords, pedal tones and non-root chord tones in the bass.
It opened up so many harmonic possibilities without straying into upper extensions or dominant chords.
Amazing! I love elton John. Great channel.
Great stuff! Good teaching.
Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Your Song is probably my go to song if I just randomly sit down at a Piano.. i like sitting down during Christmas at Costco and picking a few tunes as they are always selling electric pianos/keyboards!
Amazing song. Will teach it some day.
Brilliant! You are very talented.
Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love Elton, I'd also love it if you could make a complete tutorial (like the other ones you do) for "your song" and "yellow brick road". Thanks for the great content man!
Great suggestion! Coming soon...

Thanks for checking out my channel. I LOVE Erroll, and may teach “Misty” in a future video.
Which Beato video?
I hadn't made the connection before, but hearing some of these intros by themselves is making me see stylistic similarities between Elton and Randy Newman that I hadn't previously noticed.
Absolutely. Many similarities.
"Pinky" from Caribou has a nice (if short) intro!
One of my favorite! Underrated song😔

Amazing album!
Bite Your Lip (Get Up And Dance) has a great intro too 😍
Ive always liked Elton John, but it was kinda a generation behind me and I listed to mostly hiphop as a kid so Im surprised that I was so familiar with each of these just through cultural osmosis lol
Exactly, it’s a testament to how recognizable even the shortest moments of his songs are decades later. Thanks for checking out the video 🙏🏼

Thanks so much for the EJ top 10..do you have complete lessons on these songs hopefully ❤🎹
Some of them! Browse the channel and let me know what else you would like to learn.
I am starting with a new band and they want to bring back Bennie & the jets to their setlist. Told them I got you covered on keys! ❤
Great!!
“Come down in time” off Tumbleweed one of his best melancholic compositions?
Do the next 10 Elton intro’s
Haha never thought about a “next 10”! Maybe I will.
hey dude why did u stop uploading i wanna learn more from u ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
More soon 🙏🏼❤️ These take a long time to make and edit. I have 5 that are in the can and almost ready for release. Thanks for following and watching.
Missing: Levon, Ticking, Salvation, GYBR, Where to now St. Peter, Chameleon, so many more great intros, but great list!
Could have done Top 100. Just too many.
cracadile rock
Great examples! But I guess you missed Don’t let the sun go down on me…
I was expecting to hear Skyline Pigeon at position #1.... How come it's out of the list?
why write in Bb or Eb when you could do it in C!!
Haha! You know Elton loves his C major 🤣
it's so sad that he can't sing his old songs anymore.
to be honest these r really cool songs but whos elton john....😅
🤣
Where's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road? Sorry, that's my #1. It's dramatic and instantly recognizable.
That’s why this list was so hard to make. Love that one too!!
Sir Elton has so so many great songs. Love the choices @pierrejpiscitelli made. Looking forward to hearing more. Now I wish I could play piano.
Left out "Dont let the Sun Go down on me" intro from (from duet version with George Michael even?) Really? Not on this list? CMon man. Otherwise good video great playing and good tips. That’s one of my all-time favorites. It was damn near impossible to narrow it down to only 10!
