Ruud is a nice guy but sadly Carlos is VERY ill. He has a chest infection affecting his breathing and is taking antibiotics affecting his stomach. He stopped today’s practice after 5 minutes. Went straight back to his hotel not stopping to interact with fans. I can’t get into analysis of a match when one opponent is at a clear disadvantage. I hope Carlos withdraws. He’s not going to be fit to continue. By the way how can Novak be no. 3 in power rankings when he’s not playing?

for me, power rankings have more to do with the best level of the moment, generally; less about who is currently active and playing. I may start to take that into account more. if it gets really ridiculous and someone's out for, say, more than a month, like a month and a half i'd especially consider it. it's fair to say he should not be in there anymore. i'll consider taking that more into account. i will say the recent results for novak have mostly been quite positive tho, with a slam final, olympic gold, shanghai final etc. so to put anyone else above him level-wise doesn't feel real accurate.
also, the point about carlos is fair. i was debating how much i wanted to dive into it and i wasn't gonna give intensely deep analysis but i did want to give a little bit. ruud did still have to deliver a great performance, which he did. i'm glad carlos performed at a high level against andrey and didn't look so sick he couldn't compete to his regular standard. rooting for his health to let him continue at that level! Cheers
