Boris Karloff stars in Frankenstein, as the screen's most memorable monster, in what many consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster (Karloff) out of lifeless body parts. Director James Whale's adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel blended with Karloff's compassionate portrayal of a creature groping for identity makes Frankenstein a masterpiece not only of the genre, but of all time.

"Crazy am I? We'll see whether I'm crazy or not." I just love the brooding intensity as the actor (Colin Clive) delivers that line.
At the end: "Well, I am crazy!"
That LOOk!!; 🎉
"It's alive!" - Best cultural one-liner
I thought that was what the doctor who delivered Joy Behar screamed.
Well yes but was never in the of book
*OG
It wasn’t a joke though.
Finally a HD version of one of mankind’s most historical moments
HD versions of the monster movies already exist for 6/7 years now! Or do you mean on TH-cam?
@@Gurke-rf8xe Ofc theres a HD version of every old movie out lol I was talking about all the TH-cam clips
@@oisinjadran 👍🏻
@@oisinjadran okay, thanks mate👌
remastered
I'm so happy that this film was restored..no offense to all the fans of MOVIES in this generation but for me, there is always this magical impact and the creativeness of making such wonderful movie like FRANKENSTEIN using the technology in past years.
Absolutely agree.
❤
AGREED!
"You'll ruin every thing " My fav line! oh oh oh and how he starts chasing and kicking fritz ass around, the lab!
“Now I know what it feels like to be God” a much more impactful line that isn’t nearly recognized as widely 😅
Classic is Always the Best ...!❤️
👍🏻
Not really
*lightning strikes*
"PLAY *ME* WILL YOU??"
It's alive. It's alive. IT'S ALIVE!
Still kills me how Victor was Henrys best man while he simultaneously tried to sleep with Elizabeth every chance he was alone with her
I bet this was scary as heck back in 1931.
one of the highlights of movie history. no doubt
*Me pressing the On button on the PS5 for the first time November 12th*
"It's alive, it's Alive....
IT'S ALIIIIIVE!!! Oh in the name of God. Now I know what's it like to have such power!!!!"
*I then faint & collapse & get sent to the hospital*
😌😂🎮
Bro this made me cry of laughter
You can buy ps5? (a ps5 is 8300 units in our country)
@@murselpatpat4270 🤔😩
@@murselpatpat4270what country are you at?
Sit down please. Sit dowwwwn!
You too, Elizabeth… please
Frankenstein is the first film of Universal’s monster movies that got me into the horror genre. Boris Karloff’s performance as Frankenstein’s Monster was one for the ages. His performances as the Monster in Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein were awesome as well. Karloff should’ve won (or at least have been nominated) for an Academy Award for his performance
Boris Karloff playing “the monster” is the best performance in film history.
Lugosi should've also been nominated for an Academy Award for Dracula and White Zombie, same with Chaney Jr. for both Of Mice and Men and the Wolf-Man, hell Colin Clive's portray of Dr. Frankenstein is Academy Award worthy as well
I used to pretend the Frankenstein Monster was a substitute for my father, after my parents divorced. He was very tall and strong and I adored him but I only saw him 2-3 times a year. So ironic. Feminism created this which was once simply about men wanting to make life without women mucking things up. Frankenstein's moral lesson was about forgetting our biological origins.
@@paulaharrisbaca4851I get your comment. Whats a man without a mother? Strange upbringing. One with a longing that can’t be fulfilled. The story of Frankensteins monster always fascinated me. A truly deep story that most don’t understand. The monster was a victim
Victor Frankenstein was always the real monster
*Henry, in this adaptation at least
The scene that stated it all!🎃👻💀
The best horror film ever made going back to 1931 no CGI here great to watch again this little treat.
I went to see this when I was 10 at the drivein with my brothers.. 4 or 5 horror movies scared the bejesus out of me.. this and Isand of Terror which is also on youtube.. there were Vampire movies as well..
An instant classic. I have watch it in my film class before the pandemic.
The good doctor was on fire in this scene and his performance in this movie was so good you had to feel pity for this man.

This movie was the beginning of REAL horror
So Dr. Frankenstein didn't use the lightning but X-rays to bring the monster to life. The lightning was to power the magnetrons used to do so.
I think this was as disturbing to the viewers back then as Human Centipede was to us.
Fuck that film... Watched it once never again.
Nah man human centipede is disgusting. This is at least bearable to watch
This movie was a huge part of my childhood
Classic movie that still holds up. Still have my fingers crossed that if Universal ever decides to do another Frankenstein installment than please please give it to Del Toro. Dude is incredibly passionate about it and it would be the dream scenario
I think one film by del Toro is in talks
@@troyandrew6154 yeah I think I heard about it as well, but that’s with a different studio and I think it’s a different take on the character as well. Would love to see him at Universal where the legacy monster movies exists
The more and more I see all the classic horror films as not just really cool movies with awesome effects but moral lessons, the more I appreciate them. "The Mummy" and "The Wolfman" both as well...
Hmm yeah he would do it well
Im Frankenstein Germany okay
Nice Halloween movie
Man this is way better than the current crappy movies, miss the time when they have to work manually in everything not to create digital like nowadays...
Nope
So yes.
I was surprised after watching the quality of the storytelling. It was much better than I expected
I was waiting for him to say "throw the switch, Igor!" but was disappointed.
Finally what que really were waiting
What I like about the first two Frankenstein movies was the machines and equipment Henry Frankenstein had to bring his creation. to life. Starting with Son of Frankenstein the machines they used to revive the monster were adequate but nothing like Henry Frankenstein's especially the kites in Bride of Frankenstein.
Kudos to Kenneth Strickfadden, a carnival electrician, who was contracted out to create the electrical gadgets. After the film, since he then owned all of the gadgets, he trucked them all home and stored them in his garage. Each time Universal needed them, he would take his "stuff" back to the lot for the next film. I heard that Karloff was afraid to lay on the table under the Jacobs Ladders and such, so that Strickfaden, himself, was the person on the table (when it wasn't just a prop body). Mel Brooks was the last to use the equipment, bringing Strickfaden out of retirement (he still had all of the stuff in his garage) for his film, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - and, I believe, gave Strickfaden credit for the first time.
Boris Karloff was also The Mummy.🤕🤢
he played a transgender?
Never seen this film but from what I have it can match any digital special effects today, Gota get my hands on this film.
Iconic!
You're mine you know! I made you with my own hands. - Dr. Finkelstein, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love James whale so much great film maker.
Please. THE DARK UNIVERSE MUST RETURN. The idea was very good! We want to see all the monsters fighting Prodigium.
You just have to change a few little things ...
@Austin Wood Prodigium is the group that fights against monsters. The leader is Dr. Jekyll.
This comes out in The Mummy
@Austin Wood Penny Dreadful. It's very good.
@Austin Wood It's a great idea! Keep doing it. It is very interesting.
You can put Dorian Gray, the bad girl from "Bad seed", invisible man, phantom of the opera, .. There are many characters and you can create a great Dark Universe!
@Austin Wood Don't forget "Bride of Frankenstein". You can also include "Hunchback of Notredame", "Dorian Gray", "Creature of the Black Lagoon", "Bathory", the children of "Village of the Damned", ...
You can even look for characters from Lovecraft (Dr. West from "Reanimator") or Edgar Allan Poe (Berenice, Mask of the Red Death, Carmilla,..). They are all from the classical literature of the 19th century.
@Austin Wood It has been a pleasure. Good luck with your project! ;)

Yep! And yep!!😅 these are my kind of horror movies, I grew up on all of the classic movies. So glad I came across these movies!!! No cussing, no explicit sex scenes, and no blood gushing( because it's sooo unnecessary) these movies were made with taste no unnecessary JUNK!!! YAYY!! ❤

2 men together create a human being without having women be involved at ALL. Misogynists everywhere adore it. I loved this movie and the sequel even more, my hair stood on end
It must then be ironic that Frankenstein was created by a woman, lol.
