Marty, I just worked out in my veggie patch for most of the day. I am concerned about our Australian farmers. Drought, bushfires, the floods, everyone should start growing edibles everywhere, cities, suburbs, rural. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

I'm also concerned about our farmers too . No farmers, no food, no future.

The more we grow are own food which tastes better, the farmer will suffer in loss of customers trickling from store back to the farmers gate.
There are some greedy farmers out there too, seen farm gate price, or organic markets ridiculous.
If the farmer is getting $1.50 for his goods to market or supermarket he wants $3.50- $4.00 from you, I say no thanks.

I am concerned about foreign ownership of our productive agricultural areas. Farmers are being enticed by wealthy overseas buyers and I can understand many Australian farmers are aging. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Ive always loved the idea of farmers markets. We have a localish one but its only once a month. So we go to the local fruit and veg shop. Its unfortunate that people are so busy that the convenience of buying everything from one big chain supermarket wins out over all the other options. Thankyou for you content. It is making me think.

Family farms are also in danger if Albo brings in the inheriatage tax that the UK have there. 90% I think.

Huge monopoly farms are going to behave just like the gas producers. Sell and export to the highest bidder to make the biggest dollar. You have seen what happened to the gas prices, exactly the same is going to happen to food prices.

I have a question out of ignorance….are we talking about fresh foods here?, Cole’s and woolies have the worst quality fruit n veg, and there meat is injected full of water…..usually most of us will go to IGA and/local butchers and growers markets for the fresh stuff of reasonable quality…..I’ve always assumed that most produce gets sold to those that manufacture processed foods, is that a wrong assumption?

Are farmers required to sell to grocery stores in Australia?
We have several different supply chains in the USA. And there are regional differences.
In the South, you have wholesalers that market directly to chain stores.
However you also have big wholesale markets. The wholesale markets allow smaller Mom and Pop stores, Restaurants, and Farmer's Market vendors to buy wholesale. They, some of them pick it up themselves.
Then there is the "come to my farm" to pick it up through our Dept of Agriculture.
We also have tailgate farmers. They grow it, drive into the city and set up on a lot or the side of the road and sell it.
Then we have Subscription Farms. People pay a subcription for so much produce or meat or milk, etc. per year. Known as Shares.
I don't know why your farmers couldn't choose another method.

We also need to eat to seasons, we are importing so much food into our country, look what happened when China dumped its garlic in Australia, farmers could survive, Chinese garlic increased in price now Australian growers are starting to increase production.
The crap that Cole’s and Woolworths sell can keep Australian Product they want $33kg for no smell no quality, even saw Spanish onions at $9 kg loose in IGA.

If God's view is one of peace for all Creations as per Isaiah 11:6-9 where God desires no animals are slaughtered, does anyone not see how God is forcefully bringing about a change so people would stop animal farming and do what is right as per Proverbs 12:10-11?

We have Aldi also IGA Foodworks and Costco, not just Cole’s and Woolworths.
Regarding Cole’s wastage last year was at 20% this also included shoplifting, that’s lots of food mostly in Vegetables but meat and dairy would be contributing to that figure slightly.
Supermarkets are sent rubbish from growers and are returned, this happens more frequently, the farmer is hoping that they accept it otherwise a waste or lower pricing range.
Thinking of the Mushroom, do to any Markets they are graded in about 10 types, each getting less, buyers want good quality, but don’t want to pay for it hence forced to take lower graded stock.
Senate Article, but supermarket bashing, what Percentage of fruit and vegetables go to markets where Supply and Demand.
Dairy was because of deregulation in Dairy Industry when milk costs 38c ( costing more than it took to produce) now worth more as milk stock is less and the bigger companies tender for milk giving more to farmers
You need to look at what food is demanded by customers, they want straight good looking food, not understanding flavour at times, but taste is the same as in a Fruit Shop, because it comes from the same farms.
There’s lots of waste as well in the Supermarket industry when it comes to fruit and vegetables.
Every State that has a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Market middle men, they buy from farmers sell too fruit shops and directly to large restruant chains excluding McDonalds and others.

I don't think that any farmer would send "trash" veggies to market. The long haul and rough handling effects the quality. Every one wants the perfect product. Years ago when I sold veggies you would not believe how some people wanted the stuff for almost free. Never had trouble selling the stuff to some one else for what I asked. As for dairy you should work at one for a year-365 twice a day. Plus the cows need to be feed and cared for. Insurance etc. Do you work for free? I do not.
