    Id really love to see a rigging tut in blender. Most of them do not really focus on stylized/cute game characters. So its really a pain to fiddle around wiht all of this.

    I came here expecting a technical tutorial and ended up learning so many topics that I’ve struggling to understand for soooo long lol. @@SmallRobotStudio Thank you so much. l always liked the early low-poly game aesthetics (PS1 era / PS2) so this will be great for playing around. Now I just have to keep up with the Nomad updates, because they seem to come so often. Appreciate it!

    If only cozyblanket wasnt so incredibly expensive... the free version is fine but you can only use it for basic retopology - any other tools is behind a really big paywall last time I checked :( I wished the app had a middle-tier price offer.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I use the Lite version of CozyBlanket, it's $20USD. You don't get the fancier tools, however it will let you do everything I did on the video :)

    im very new to cozy blanket but thanks to your video it made it very less intimidating!! just curious on how id be able to retopo a mesh that isnt symmetrical without having to freehand the entire model, using symmetry in some areas and not all. if youd be able to help or provide assistance id be very greatful!

      Ohhh boi, you ask a great question. Unfortunately I am also looking for the answer. At least on the mid tier version of CZ I don't believe there is a way to work symmetry in isolated areas. This would be an amazing feature. I recommend reaching out to the developers to suggest it. They can be contacted thru twitter :)

    Great video, full of amazing tips. It's been great watching you make this character, through live streams and the process videos. I wonder how far you intend to take this character. Is this the last episode or will you show the animation procress, or even the process of implementing it into a game engine. Either way I'm excited to see what you do next.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joel! :) I'm in the process of building a proper rig (the one on the video was mostly automated 😶‍🌫) I'll give it to Michael to animate and then play with engine integration. I'm still debating what kind of video to make about it given that it's a bit outside of the channels specialty. It's relatively new territory for me to teach it confidently!

    Great and inspiring video. Will this method work too for more highly detailed 3d character model creation to be imported for Unity or does this only work for simple characters? Also, would would using Blender instead of Cozy Blanket work too or is using Cozy Blanket much easier?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a yes for both answers. You can add a lot more detail to a model by baking Nomal maps and Unity can def handle much larger models. Blender is not bad at all, especially with the addOn RetopoFlow it's pretty good. I personally prefer CozyBlanket because it feel gamified but I rarely use it for larger models.

Maybe cozy is not exporting normals map with uv? Please, help me

    Kinda new to this. Any tips or ways to get the texturized painting style of how the final is just within nomad? Not disneyesque smooth ones. Similar to n64 or ps2 but not all blurry. Just simpler. All the tutorials I see are blender. I have procreate as well. I’ve picked up that painting the details is ideal for the style but am new to 3D modeling.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend searching with the key words unlit, hand painted textures, or baked light textures. Where you paint changes the control and type of tools you can access but you can ultimately use Nomad, Procreate, Substance etc.

    Nice! Thanks for the tutorial. I tried the same workflow for a project I’m working on a week ago. You also can bake normals from high resolution to low resolution in cozy blanket and import that in procreate, with normals. You have to import the whole folder to to do so. It’s still not an ideal workflow but I think it’s good to know that it’s already possible. I learned a lot from your nomad videos, thanks!

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your process, I'd love to see what you are working on. I had not though about importing the normals to Procreate. I've got to experiment that!

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi erika, any option of bake nomad sculpt high poly for use on the low poly cozyblanket object? I'm not sure how to do it or the steps. Maybe paint in procreate the nomad sculpt version and after use those uv on cozy low poly version?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Javier, for any bake you will need UVs first. Cozyblanket can create the Normal bakes if you switch to the BK room just under UV. Nomad can also do it, you can even reproject detail from a high poly mesh into a low poly. I'll make a video about it soon!

    Is it possible to make a videogame map on nomadsculpt?
    Like taking blueprint as reference and making objects/walls on it?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can import image references into Nomad to sculpt any kind of asset you want. The cool thing about undeforming ones if that you don{t have to manually retopologize, decimation will do the trick!

    Procreate really needs x-symmetry for 3d model painting. I also believe I once tried to overlay the uvs of left and right side to “simulate” symmetry and it didn’t allow (procreate) to use overlapping UVs…. Idk, as of now this is really the worst part of the workflow when using iPad. I just cannot bring myself to the point of doing twice as much work simply cause a feature is missing - whilst for simple characters this is acceptable, complex characters require symmetric painting substantially more in order to actually make them properly - it is beyond me why procreate still doesn’t allow for this. It’s been forever at this point since they introduced their 3D suite.
    Do you know of any workarounds for this issue? It would be amazing (other than - for example - simply mirroring the maps after creating them and making sure to do the same to the object | which would require another step of post-processing I would rather avoid).
    Anyways, as always awesome video! Nomad and Cozy are just… wow. I love them so much. 🎉
