This method is actually really intuitive. For the longest time, computers only had hardware for addition and subtraction. Before the invention of multiplexers, computers would multiply/divide by just repeating simple additions & subtractions (ex: 6x3 = 6+6+6). Your video pretty much follows that same rule: instead of learning something challenging, stick to what you’re good at doing to solve complicated tasks.

    One more trick:
    Did you know?
    x% of y=y% of x
    Proof:
    y/100*x=x/100*y
    xy/100=xy/100
    Example:
    2% of 50=50% of 2
    Try it!

@@huss2600 You just move the decimal point to the left twice and then times your answer by the percentages. E.g. 25% of 600. You would do 600 divided by 100 which is 6.00. Which then u do 6.00x25

Depending on how well you remembered your multiplication tables, it may be easier to divide by 4 for 25%, in my opinion. They had me learn multiplications 1×1 through 12×12, though my memory got a little rusty for some of the bigger numbers/products. Nonetheless, in my case I might be more efficient dividing my 4.
I also think it might be easier to subtract 25% to get to 75% regardless of your memory. It takes one less operation and you have to calculate 25% either way

i do one times the other and move the decimal where it looks best. so 85% of 24 I do basically 85 x 24 = 2040 and move the point so it becomes 20.4 (I'll insert the decimal point as I'm reading it out). But the theory is basically just times them together and depending who you are and what memory you have I would suggest multiplying by any means that comes natural. I like putting figures with 0.5 into the other because a half is so easy to calculate and put aside until the end. when i see 85 i think 8times + 0.5times(just a half) so 85 x 24 I really do ((8 x 2 =16(then add a zero because the 2 is tens =160)) + (8 x 4=32)) = (160 + 32)= 192 then add half of 24, so 192 + 12 = 204 it seems longwinded but they are low numbers and it can be done in seconds. But there are many ways to times numbers together and I suggest whichever way you want to get there

If you dont have the numbers on this list: follow these instructions. (divide further for decimals)
Divide your number by 100 (now its 1% and can be used as a base for more multiplying.)
Multiply that base by 10 times and use it for more larger number leaps. (76=70+6)
If you fancy it, you can use even larger numbers. (76=50+20+6)
Collect the numbers until you have the needed percentage necessary
If you guys know a better method please tell me.

Is there a way to quickly calculate something like 31% of 78 without a calculator?

    • @MalphasMikaelson
      @MalphasMikaelson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

10% = 7.80, 1% = 0.78. So just do 3x 10% and then add the 1% to it. To do that I would calculate 7x3 for 21 and then 0.80x3 for 2.40 to get 23.40 and then add the 0.78 to it for 24.18
Did this in my head and typed it as I did it so hopefully I didn't make some mistake as I was all adding it up. But you get the point.

I saw a comment where it says:
      ×% of = y% of x
      For proves:
      26% of 70 = 70% of 26.
To calculate 70% of 26 I usually go like this.
      50% + 10% +10% = 70%.
      So : 50% of 26 is 13.
      13+ (10%×2) = 13+ 20%
      10% of 26 is 2.6.
      20% of 26 is 2.6 ×2 = 5. 2
      13+5.2 = 18.2
or 70% of 26 as well as 26% of 70.
To go back to your question:
      31% of 78 = 78% of 31.
      78% = 100% - 20% (10 + 10) - 2%.
      31's 100% is 31.
      31 - 20 % (of 31) is 31- 10% - 10% .
      10% of 31 is 3.1.
      3.1 ×2 = 6.2 = 20%
      31 (100%) - 6.2 (20%) = 24.8 (80%)
      Now:
      24.8 - 2% (1%+1%).
      1% of 31 is 0.31.
      2% = 0.31 ×2 = 0.62
      24.8(80%) - 0.62 (2%) =24.18(78%)
That's what I would do at least but you really have lots of options

Here I answer how to find 23% of 24.
      23%= 25% -2%
      Let's start with 25% of 24.
      (50% : 2=25%) so
50% of 24 is 12, divide that by 2 and you have 6 which is 25% of 24.
The second part is 25%-2% (1%+1%).
      1%of 24 is 0.24.
      0.24 ×2 = 0.48 (2%)
      6(25% of 24) - 0.48 ( 2% of 24).
      6 - 0.48 = 5.62 which is 23% of 24.
That's what I would do at least but you really have lots of options.

      13+5.2 = 18.2

To go back to your question:
      3.36% of 90 = 90% of 3.36
      So 3.36(100%) - 0.336(10%).
      3.36 - 0.336 = 3.024 which is the 90% of 3.36 and the 3.36% of 90.
      Another example:

      3.36% of 400= 400% of 3.36
      3.36(100%).
      400% = 100% ×4

      400% of 3.36 is 13.44 as well as 3.36% of 400.

zdulcun That has nothing to do with stupidity. It's just a way of figuring stuff in your mind, I guess, fast. You could argue for and against it.
