STUNNING work! Been wanting to get some charcoal work done (I usually work with graphite and/or ink). I even have some grey toned paper. Your work is very inspiring :) Thank you for sharing!!
Lisa I AM really glad that you keep repeating about the lights & darks for contouring. Actually YOU have taught me quite a bit at my old age... just put me to shame... ha!! 🤣😁 I don't mind... it's time that I LEARN the more "correct" techniques that you younger generations have already learned. KEEP PAINTING!! 😁
I love what you had to say about drawing from reference photos versus memory. It seems it is only people who don't draw or paint that love to tell me how it should be done! Thanks for a great tutorial :-)
Words are hard. It's okay, we always know what you mean.😘 The absolute hardest thing as a beginner artist is to 1)draw what you see not what you think it should look like, and 2) draw in abstract shapes not in, again, what you think it looks like. After 5 years painting I'm just getting use to those things.
It's funny that we kind of think alike sometimes... I can't talk either and always mush up my words, and before I watched your charcoal videos, I actually guessed that charcoal is fast and smooth to work with so I should do that before getting into my painting and pastel etc. And I was choosing which ones to buy and I got the generals instead of the faber castell creative studio/pitt starter kit. And thank you so much for explaining what to look for. I always hear artists say "draw what you see" and I just never understood it. Now I do thanks to you, it's abstract shapes!
Beautiful! My husband accidentally broke my old charcoal pencils and I bought a new set. I haven't had a chance to try them yet. This makes me want to bust them out.
Super funny, I also just drew a striped kitten, but in water soluble graphite. After watching all your charcoal videos, it inspired me to pick up supplies you recommended as well. I get pretty impatient with graphite, part of why I switched to water soluble graphite, and have been wanting to try charcoal because of you. Thanks for all your videos, I can't wait for them all to arrive and I can give them a go! :D
Hey Lisa thanks for another amazing video, I'm not an adventurous artist as coloured pencils is where I built my nest but what I do I learn from all the lessons from other mediums anyhow I know you have done videos on coloured pencils supplies before but is it possible that you can do an update as so many new supplies keep coming out, thanks so much
Derwent makes a tinted charcoal and I really like it along with my chunky Conte’s and I have some Generals. Sometimes I even grab the dark pastel if I run out of powder. Sounds like you enjoy charcoal a lot. It is a quick painting and feels good to do between tedious detailed work for sure.
So right about the ear! I went to a fairly prestigious art show a few years ago and there was this huge charcoal of a tiger. It was outstanding work...except for the foreground ear. She had put so much work and detail into everything thing else but the ear didn't fit in with the quality of the rest of the piece. It got an honorable mention but probably would have placed better had she not rushed through the ear. Many years ago I made the same mistake (because I was getting tired of working on it...should have taken a break)so my heart hurt for her.
That is the exact reason I will almost always do the ear or inside of the mouth if the mouth is open first. Get those parts out of the way before I get sick of working on something!
Great drawing, and the tips are excellent. I use many of those supplies. Some day I will have to try that draw upside down idea in places where I sense I am generalizing or assuming the body part shapes, or otherwise feel stuck for too long.
Beautiful piece Lisa! ❤️ I love the SpectraFix Fixatve, I use it for my pastels artwork! But, DON'T USE IT OVER PASTELMAT when you finish your work, in pastels!!! 🚫 It happened to me when I finished my artwork in pastels with Pastelmat and it got dark! I thought I lost my work😱 and I could fixed it, adding more pastel over it 😌 so, this is my advice 😊🙏🏼❤️
I loved Mi-Tientes paper... but then I sold it when I went vegan (Finding out they size it with gelatin, too. Dang it). I liked it a lot better than Strathmore's pastel paper (I don't like it) and I actually miss Mi-Teintes paper haha. However, for my charcoal works, I used Strathmore's toned gray paper anyway, but sometimes a nice toothy paper does wonders.
I think Watercolor Pencils are the fastest medium for me. I complete a little wash over line piece over my lunchbreak
You really brought that cutie to life Lisa🔥✨

Sweet little cat.🐱 I enjoyed your demonstration.
Thank you for this! I've been getting into charcoal more but I do it like a pencil drawing. This video will jump me to the next step!

Yeah it's such a weird concept.
I blame movies. There's always people drawing masterpieces or portraits without using references and makes people think it's like that.
You inspire me with each blog you make ❤ thank you

What a beautiful stylish sweet kitten, I love such drawings.
Your drawing skills are amazing, clearly a product of many years of practice and a good eye

YAY! You're going to have so much fun! That water soluble graphite is a blast too! I need to do another drawing with those soon!

I need to try the Derwent tinted charcoal! I think I have some here somewhere!
The tinted charcoal is amazing, so beautiful!

Love this
General white is my favorite - especially if you are a pastel artist!!
How does it compare to a white pastel pencil? It always looks way more pigmented whenever someone uses it on youtube
@@loati94 It is the best for pastel - also love chinese white Caran d ache for larger areas to use on top layer - just my preference!
Looks great! I will definitely have to try some of these tips and products in my next project. Thanks!!!!
I love this piece! Beautiful work! And thanks for the charcoal tips .I just started useing them and I already love them!

@@Lachri you're welcome!☺️🥰 Just share my experience of my almost mess😅

The strathmore was what I used YEARS ago. It's ok but you're right, not the same. Obviously you can still make awesome work on it though! :D
