    2/15/2022 USA Grandpa Bill: Carly, the thing I notice is the delicacy of your vision. Your mind is able to see what most of us yet can't. Your development as an artist is profound compared to most of us. Fifty years ago as a traditionally trained architectural draftsman using 6h, 4h, 2h, pencils on vellum, I loved seeing the plans develop from faint to dark as if they rose from nothing to visibility on the paper. That's the closest I can get to see what you do. The wisps you create to form wonderful images are as elegant as the blossoming of our finest flowers. This is your innate talent, and each of us has some gift. I admire your doing, but I have to be satisfied with my gift which is a bit more coarse, heavy-handed, blunt. Thank you so much for your graciousness in sharing your talent and accomplishment. It's a real treat.

    I've been drawing for years and some of the topics you touch on are exactly what I've come across, but never found a way to fix it, like the shine for graphite. Just simple things that make so much sense and I love it. Your video is informative, creative, and inspiring and I am so happy that I found it. I want to step up to that next level and you really break it down nicely. Very cool, ty. I am loving your other videos as well. So happy I found your page.

I am fairly new on my own artistic journey but I can see that I have been afraid to make my values as contrasted as yours when that is what makes your work so breathtaking. Hi Carly. I work in graphite and to make graphite powder I first put a block into a bag and use a hammer to brake it into smaller chunks, it can then be put in a pepper grinder and be ground up or ground directly onto the paper. I have also used an old NutriBullet to do this as well, both ways are quick and don't make a mess. Hope this is helpful. 😊

    thanks!! I bought pre-powdered charcoal but i am going crazy trying to get it dark.... it is making it so darn hard. i got so desperate i even tried using water, which i should have realized wont work the way i did it. but to my defense i HAVE seen a video where people put water on the paper before using charcoal. but i should have rewatched it to see how and why, and if to let it dry or what. cause i destroyed my so far best realistic drawing LOL. tho i am SO GLAD i destroyed that one NOW and not later on when I am better and I am doing bigger ones. Because if it i would dstroy a bigger and better it would sting. anyway, i could NOT understand what i was doing wrong so it wouldnt get darker.... i did layer after layer after layer but the difference was SO TINY. I will try the general jumbo and pulverize it myself. thanks

    Bostik brand blu tack is the best kneeded eraser of the all. For really smooth texture I use a natural sheep skin car chamois. Did you try Arches paper. I like your idea of a wash background. I too draw on my wall but I mounted my support on French cleats so I can easily just lift it to remove it from wall and put it on a flat surface This way I can move the drawing and support together and not just the paper.

    Thank you so much for sharing the tools you use. I was once at the top of my profession in carpet laying and I always bought the best tools that I could find. It makes your work so much easier and produces a much better end result. Anything else is just a frustrating struggle! Looking forward to your course!

    I havent seen charcoal pencils in the same number letter categorizing as graphite pencils. Only soft medium and hard. Which I've had a hard time figuring out what to use when, mine all see so close to the same if not undetectable in differences. Perhaps it's the brands I've tried. Hmm. Maybe you'll get to it as I'm still watching but why charcoal over graphite or any other medium? I'm just curious

    • @carlyrenee.art
      @carlyrenee.art  ปีที่แล้ว

      I talk about this a lot in my course, but basically no real big difference. I barely use the hard 2B charcoal, just the soft 6B as it creates that rich black. Graphite produces a lot of shine so charcoal is a little more tricky to use but you can get more hyperrealistic results
