      Yeah, I don't know where this man was getting his information but he needs another source. To many people spreading bad information as it is. The Odyssey is widely known for it's transmission issues. Honda makes great vehicles but the Odyssey is the only large one they make and the transmissions are weak. If anyone wants info one used car reliability I'd recommend talking to independent mechanics.

      @dumbestbiscuit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He's trying to talk about Consumer Reports ratings, but he is mis-quoting them. 2016 was the only year the Odyssey was above avg reliability, every other year from 2013 until 2019 was either average or below average. 2018 - the year he is talking about - it was below avg. Since 2017 the Sienna has also been avg or below avg including 2020. They were above or far above 2013-2016, hence their reputation, but no longer. The 2020 Pacifica edged up to far above avg after a couple of years of avg. In point of fact, based on CR pretty much all minivans from 2017-2019 had avg or less reliability. The only ones that stood out were the 2017 Sedona and 2020 Pacifica, which were both far above avg reliability - and that may be a statistical anomaly which I've noticed does happen sometimes on CR. Modern minivans with all the gizmos just are not all that reliable is my take.

    I owned a 2014 Honda Odyssey, and the van was almost trouble free for 130k miles. Aside regular maintenance, I have only replaced 2 parts: the evap solenoid valve at 105k miles and one of the ignition coils at 90k miles. Unfortunately, my van was totaled after a 1/2ton pick truck rammed onto us on the highway. My buddy has a 2013 Sienna - 365k miles. He had to replace the AC compressor and struts on the lift gate. He had no other issues. IMO, the Sienna is number 1 minivan and Honda is the second best - I do not care about the other minivans.

    I bought a new 2013 Grand Caravan 'Crew' & NO problems with it in 7.5 years. It even has the original battery. Original tires replaced at 70,000 Km & brakes at 80,000 Km. I wax it twice a year & since the 2013 looks exactly like the 2020 many people think mine is new--LOL. BTW, it still gets 35 MPG at 90 Km/Hr & 30 MPG at 110 Km/Hr with it's 283 HP V-6. It cost at least $10,000 less than Honda & Toyota vans with the same options--Yah I know those vans are good. The T & C van outsells all other vans combined in Canada & it's built in Windsor Ont BUT Chrysler is discontinuing it in 2021 & replaced it with a 'basic' Pacifica model with the same A-1 engine as my 2013. I've owned numerous new vehicles for 60 yrs including 2 Toyota's & 3 Honda's & this van has been just as reliable as those vehicles.

    No mention about the 3.3L Lambda engine in the sedona - class action lawsuit: The lawsuit says there have been more than 350 complaints about vehicles that caught fire without any collisions occurring. The plaintiffs claim defects in the engines block the flow of oil to engine components such as the connecting rod bearings. This allegedly causes the engines to seize because the lack of oil lubrication prematurely wears out the engines.
    Customers complain about connecting rods that break and knock holes in the engines, allowing fluids to leak and ignite fires.
    Out of the eight named plaintiffs, two claim their engines caused fires and two say their engines made knocking sounds. The other four plaintiffs say their engines are defective even though the lawsuit doesn't claim those owners experienced engine problems.

    TOYOTA FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

  • @anorveaa
    @anorveaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I currently have a 2007 Toyota Sienna and mechanically my Toyota has been bloody ROCK SOLID!!! The engine and transmission are strong as heck. Having said that I did have transmission electrical/sensor problems TWICE and since the dealer replaced the entire electrical harness cables problem went away. The Toyota dealer techs had no clue what was causing the problem so they replaced all the cabling. I am shopping around for another mini van and I HATE the look of the new Honda and Toyotas. The look of those vans is just horrible and way too "Asian" plasticky looking. I also do not like the newer 8 speed transmissions. I have been very carefully studying the minivan market and from all the vans out there I am leaning more towards the Kia Sedona. The engine and transmission is the closest to what my 2007 Sienna has. I don't care about fuel "economy" because at the end of the day I mostly drive in the city so all these other over prices minivans give you around the same MPG in the city and for the price the Sedona wins hands down and the vehicle looks very similar to my 2007 Sienna which I prefer that look over the nasty FAT look of the newer Siennas. The Sienna's interior is pure garbage too all made out of an ugly looking plastic all over the place. My mother in law has a newer Sienna and I hate it very much and I can honestly say that the newer Siennas have much inferior plastics than my 2007 Sienna because lots of the plastic around the seat and the front bumper of my mother in law's newer Sienna are falling apart. They don't make them like they used to either so I would not be surprised if the Kia Sedona is well built because they are competing hard and like Hyundai they are in the business of selling cars and they know that to stay in business and for people to buy their stuff they have to make high quality vehicles. The new Kia Telluride is another perfect example of that. I would not be surprised that if you take care of the Kia's engine and transmission with higher quality oils/fluids the car should last you a very long time. I use Mac1 synthetic engine oil in my 07 Sienna with 170,000 miles and just flushed and replaced the transmission fluid with toyota's original WS fluid and I am not planning on selling my 07 Sienna any time soon this thing is rock solid. The Kia Sedona with a very similar engine and transmission as my 07 Sienna should also last you a very long time with love and care. By the way DON'T let the car manufacturer fool you when they say not to replace the transmission fluid. That would be the worst lie you will ever believe and that will kill your transmission faster.

I know a couple people that have racked up similar mileage on their Chrysler vans, and I agree that some generations are underrated reliability wise. I think the discrepancy comes when they talk about that models entire record. The caravan has been around since the mid-80s, and they were as reliable as any Chrysler was in the 80s. They were junk. The Sienna came out in 1997. People are still driving '97 Siennas. The Sienna has never been junk. Also, the Caravan's architecture is old, which is why its so cheap. You're essentially getting the same mechanics that you were 10 years ago, which isn't going to impress anyone.
