Just got back a roll I shot in Tawain for my channel. This film is absolutely gorgeous and I saw a review that mentioned that you can rate it at ISO 50 with very good results. I shot one roll with a range from box speed to overexposed by 4 stops and the quality I got back from the lab is stunning. I shot it during daytime and there is only little grain in the scans and it is amazing how versatile Natura 1600 is. What a bummer that it will be gone for good. :(
i have yet to try it at other ISO settings. I want to rate it at 800 and 400 to see how it looks. i feel like the colors are already very pastel and desaturated at 1600, so im excited to see what happens with overexposure.
I came across your channel about 2 months ago and I love it! The style of your videos, the topics you cover and how you cover them, just great. I just bought a roll of Cinestill 800 and I guess now i got to give the fuji natura 1600 a try as well haha. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! that means a lot. I just picked up my first roll of Cinestill 800T 120 that im super excited to shoot. I might have to make a video for that as well!
I love how you shot in all different kinds of lighting, that is really helpful. Also, I completely agree with the grain level on the model and in that light. My exact thoughts!
Ah thank you. I tried to cover as many possibilities as I could to really see what this film can do. I'm glad you agree with me on the grain! I found it to be really perfect in those shots for really getting the feel I want, and it was totally unexpected.
I too enjoy downtown japan :-) that picture of the convenience store deffo had a feeling of a konbini at night, at least in my head. Such a shame this is harder to come by now!
Those images came out pretty different from what I expected but some of them are absolutely gorgeous! Love the "cinematic" feel of this film. I will have my hands on a couple of those in a couple of weeks!
those are some badass shots! For the night time setting, what do you recommend shutter speed an aperture to be? I got a Canon AE-1 wih the 50mm F1.8 I was going to use tonight. Do you recommend shooting it at 1600 iso?
I feel like I appreciate this film much more in darker environments, and rightfully so I guess since it's a 1600 ISO film. I feel like it just pops more, so to speak. It gives a very specific look during the day that might only be desired if you planned it to come out that way. I'd like to push Pro 400h super hard to see if you can get close to the Natura 1600 look. Anyway, glad you liked it, man. You're killing it!
Thanks my dude! yeah i really enjoyed the night shots, they have this surreal feel to them that makes them really special. the way it dealt with backlit sunlight was pretty amazing and definitely not what i expected.
While I understand the concept of "stand development", I'm not aware of its application to the C-41 color process. If something like that was used here, it would modify the normal imaging of the film and might contribute lack of color saturation. Are these results comparable to conventional C-41 processing?
in theory, yeah I would agree that most likely you would get a lack of faithful colour saturation, contrast, and more grain. that was what i assumed when i first decided to try it. in practice, however, the difference is so nominal i cant tell by looking at it. the only real difference i can quantify at all is more noticeable grain, and even then, when i stand develop ektar i get almost none. the reality is i get more colour variance and contrast issues from scanning then anything else.
i sold a roll for 50 dollars AUD recently, on ebay its about 70 atm. sadly very expensive, luckily i grabbed two rolls a year before they shot up in price
Natura 1600 was one of my favorite films. It was the perfect color Street Photography film. Too bad it wasn’t available in 120. Now everyone who has an expired roll wants to pay for their kids college selling it.
Holy grain Batman. I just got three rolls based on your Insta feed samples. I’m going to try half at box speed, half at 800. Portra 800 @120 is the only pushable color film left. I’ve shot it at 2500 and liked the results.
that winding and wasting a frame tho..... you dont need to wind twice. just make sure it caught and after the first empty frame (that you take with the back closed) tighten the rewind crank . when you advance for the second frame you will see that the rewind crank is moving which means its pulling the film. you get 3/4s of the second frame usually with a part light leaked but you end up not wasting any frames. with this way of loading rn you are wasting one frame. I get 37-38 frames out of a roll from my F-1 every time
all of Japan is a downtown, didnt even catch that, haha, great shots, looks like plenty of latitude possible, like the daylight results, washed out in good way
Don't overpay for Natura, it's just rebranded Superia 1600. Exact same film stock that they just made an alternate packaging for to go along with the Natura camera.
Got a roll in Tokyo. Shot it in all times of the day. I don't know what I was expecting, but ugh... garbage :( Unless you like that lomography, diy pinhole camera, shot-with-the-fridge-door look. Never again, sorry.
ah thats a bummer! i found that this film loves light, and works really well when shot at 800, which is closer to its true ISO. i would recommend giving it another go!
I will be posting an updated Fuji Natura 1600 review soon!

great channel, by the way!
the colors remind me a lot of the colors you get with polaroid film. very hazey. I kinda love it!

Loved the night scenes with the buildings lit up.
Felt like stepping backward in time. Beautiful images.

I love the grain in this film. Its delicious.

Yeah the film really surprised me. I love the cinematic feel too.
The Photo Dept. See you in the next cup of coffe

I've read it's just re-branded Superia 1600. Just bought ten rolls of it.
Looks like a real good allrounder :-)
these are so beautiful!
Sofia thank you!
Is it true that Natura 1600 costs 50-60$ per roll now? [2019]
No idea! I havent bought any in almost a year. I know its no longer made so its entirely possible.
@@ThePhotoDept lol...I have one in the fridge i never used. Hmmm...to sell? Or to use? It's probably expired @2018-17 or something

The grain is really nice, I love it. I need to try pushing Portra more, I've only ever pushed it one or two stops max.
The shots are beautiful but why are the colors and tone looking washed out ?

Squirt is indeed great, though grapefruit Jarritos is even better. It's kinda like what Squirt was 40+ years ago, but more zingy.
Did you use an external flash to take the night time photos?
i didnt! just used the available light.

Geoff Walker sorry already got ruined financially
Didn’t know that!
Time traveler here... You're going to want to buy all those $13 rolls you can. Oh, and bitcoin :)
soo i am drinking SQUIRT!...one day ill be mature enough to hear this without laughing...
did you scan this on a flatbed?? cmon give it what it deserves!! a Nortisu or frontier!!
those scanners over-sharpen film and make it look like a digital image. No thank you. Keep the softness of film.
just shot my last roll...
I still have two.
@@ThePhotoDept jelly. I had a good send of with last roll doe. Seriously never took me so long to shoot a roll lol
