Hi Evan. This is very clear and thorough. Thanks.

Thanks David - more tutorials are in the works.

I did the 2 layers trick for a while too. And I did the Hybrids for a bit. But now I use the clip cube to make a viewpoint with the section plane 6' above the stage floor. Then I set the background to Open GL and foreground to Hidden line and get a similar result without having to make all the hybrid symbols.

Interesting Idea Sean - I'm going to play with this and see how it goes. I usually find on complex models that Hidden line goes really slow. I've heard this is faster in 2020, but I still haven't started using it.

@@design.alexander Well it takes a minute to render the plan but you don't have to do it very often. Don't you use hidden line for your viewport drafting? I haven't seen a lot of performance change between 19 and 20 but I've been using the clip cube for ground plans for a couple versions now. I just did a tut on my page about setting up dashed lines for obj above the cutting plan.

@@seanposkea Haven't had time to play with this yet, but still gonna check it out.

Seems really sensible but I can't seem to do this in 2024. Is there an updated workflow? The Screen plane bit at 12:45 isn't there in 2024 for me...

@MattSmith-di2io Yes, things have changed as Screen Plane has become legacy. Now, if you have a 3d symbol and you want to make it Hybrid - exit the symbol, then double click on it and choose EDIT 2D. This will ghost your 3d and you can now draw 2D on top of it (make sure SHOW OTHER OBJECTS WHILE IN EDIT MODE is active). When you exit the symbol edit, it will convert into a hybrid. I will post a video update - thanks for catching this.

@@design.alexander Awesome thanks! I've been struggling with this really simple thing since yesterday but now solved, thanks so much!!

I'm trying to make a lighting instrument hybrid symbol out of an imported dwg file from the Elation website. It has about a billion vertices so it's choking my computer( which has very good specs).
How can I simplify the 3d geometry while making my hybrid symbol?

@B-McG I think your only option there is to rebuild the 3d. Which fixture are you working with - I'll take a look.

VW should work on automating this command, that would streamline our workflow!

@Julian S they have. Take a look at Auto Hybrids in the help files or TH-cam. 💥
