    I've often thought I came from greatness. From a long line of Grimsby fishermen born and bred Grimsby I now get I'm a descendant of Odin. Brilliant.

    wow . left Grimsby in 86 to join the Army and have never been back into the town centre since. It really has changed for the better. Great memories. My dad received an RSPCA award for saving a dog that had fallen into the riverhead and couldn't get out. Was great to see its all still there .I need to come back on a pilgrimage before I pop me clogs.

      It's not beautiful lol, far from. Its literally like being at the end of the earth. Nothing comes and nobody wants to visit. The shops are crap, the council couldn't care less, Liam Nici the mp is an absolute tool and that's forgetting to mention the drips that live here! This is all coming from a local resident of grimsby. It's a shit hole.

      yeah you can see him panning away from broken windows and rampant graffitti. He also didn't go down the road towards ASDA, where the bridge is covered in graffitti. It's an interesting watch but it feels decieving

    • @compass2201

      Grimsby has its issues like pretty much everywhere. This isn't deceiving at all.
      Luckily we're getting a lot of rejuvenation over the next few years. Lived in other areas across Lincolnshire and they're all the same underneath the surface - not enough attention or funding given to Lincs from central government.
      The problem with Grimsby imo is too much centralisation in a very small area whilst lacking a weak willed / inefficient council and not enough attention paid to the other commence hubs across the town or cultural places of interest (eg places to want to actually visit).
      Cleethorpes may look prettier and more enjoyable for a walk but has a lot of the same issues, just with an extra coat of paint.

    Love the accent of Grimsby I moved to the Midlands years ago and people still try and work out what my accent comes from very rarely can they do that I always say the difference between Hull and Grimsby is not the bridge it's Hull got the Cod Grimsby got the lovely Haddock you need to do my late husband's town Cleethorpes (Meggie's)

    Another great video ! It brought back memories of my visit to Grimsby and Cleethorpes in 2019. My Great Grandfather worked as an Accountant for a Fishing Company there, and my Grandad was born in Cleethorpes. I visited that Library to do some family research. I was impressed with how clean a tidy the area was, much better than Hull !!

    The Ross Tiger is NOT the last of the Fishing Fleet you spoke of, The Ross Revenge, a sister ship to the Ross Tiger still exists and maybe it better now known as "Radio Caroline" currently moored in Essex not far from my current location after I left Grimsby to Join the ARMY in 1977, serving both at home and also serving in Northern Ireland and Gibraltar. In fact the Ross Tiger will soon be returning to Grimsby for a boiler refit before returning to Essex. Its always nice to see other viewpoint video "Walk abouts" and there are quite a few now. Sadly due to age and not being a driver I no longer visit Grimsby but still have fond memories of growing up and being educated in Grimsby from my early years on the Nunsthorpe Estate and being Educated at the Nunsthore Infants and Junior school before finishing my Education at Chelmsford Seconday School in 1973, working in Moneysave in Freeman St and Binns in Top Town before switching trades to work at the Barton Ropery and Barton Cycleworks (Falcon Cycles) then came my stint in the Military, after that I left the Army but returned to Gibraltar for a few years to work in the Rock Hotel. I finally settled in Essex as the Winters are a lot milder. Average Snowfall of approx 0 to ONE INCH per year and Summer temperatures of 85 to 95F. All the BEst for your future Vlogs in and arround Grimsby. Tony in Essex, better known as Tony Robinson formerly of Grimsby now residing in Sunny Essex.

    • @Opel314
      @Opel314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe the following to be the oldest, Holy Trinity and St Mary's Church, Old Clee, Grimsby.

    • @chriscoo9129
      @chriscoo9129 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ferriso is right, it's the Old Clee Church located just behind Carr Lane, which is off Clee Road. The original church building that stands has had extensions added later on but I think the original building itself is something like 11th or 12th century, and is in a very quaint little part of the town. Although it lies right on the boarder of Grimsby and Cleethorpes I think its still considered Grimsby until you get to Clee Road, and I only know this as it actually has a sign telling you it's the oldest remaining building in the town at the entrance to the church.

  • @richardstill8689
    @richardstill8689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    ok so the rebuilding of St James Square got rid of the fountain that was there, a testament to the towns fishing past, most of Freshney Place is closed, East Marsh is one of the most deprived areas of the country, most of fisherman are now gone due to EU fishing quotas and even after Brexit we still haven't recovered from, so what about Grimsby is still great, you want more, how about the closing of Scatho baths, an olympic size swimming pool in favour of the leisure centre, the National Fishing Heritage centre, once a great museum now a shadow of its past, so I ask you what is so great about a town that was once a thriving town, I lived here most of my life and am saddened by this so stop glorifying something that is no longer there

    • @dreddykrugernew
      @dreddykrugernew 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What we need is small fast boat ferries to ferry people from Hull marina to Grimsby, we are so close to each other but if i wanna get a bus its like what £8 and it take an hour and 45 minutes?. But im also surprised it hasnt been done to ferry workers from Hull to Immingham docks and vice versa because i know people who set off at 4:30am each morning to get from Hull to Immingham docks for work, you would of thought both ABP sites would have invested in a ferry service...

    Unsurprisingly, you didn't actually go onto the docks itself, only one of the remnants of its past glory. The actually working part of the docks is tiny compared to how it once was. The irony of having a flyover to allow traffic unhindered to go across part of the town being completed in the early 70's, just when the long trains carrying fish to the midlands stopped running. Thanks, in large, to the declining fishing industry, brought on by, not only the cod wars but the EU and their restrictions.
