Good evening! And welcome to a walk around the wonderful seaside town of Cleethorpes, just down the coast from our last destination, Grimsby! One of the most popular beach spots in Northern England, Cleethorpes is a town full of heritage and things to do, much of which we’ll explore on this tour.
What’s even better about Cleethorpes is that many of its main attractions - the pier, Ross Castle etc - are free! The Lollipop Train, meanwhile is £1.50 for adults and £1 for kids (toddlers go free), while the Coastal Light Railway is £4 for adults - so not too bad if you fancy a ride on one of Cleethorpes’ many lovely trains :)

Thanks for the tour, I visited Cleethorpes all the way from NZ, back in 2019. My Grandad was born there in 1899, His father worked for a Fishing Company based in Grimsby, so it was a voyage of family history for me as well.
I travelled by Bus over the wonderful Humber Bridge from Hull. I found the house where my Grandad grew up.

    Lovely video.
I'm Scottish and have visited Cleethorpes for 53 years. I've lots of family in the area. In fact....we only returned home yesterday after a week there. First time I've experienced snow there lol.
I love the area. Steele's is still the best for a fish tea.

Very informative walkabout tour of Cleethorpes. I was born there in the late 40s and enjoyed a very happy
childhood being able to play on the beach regularly. I moved away to Yorkshire and now live down south,
however, i still visit a couple of times a year to catch up with friends. Your video does the town justice.

A very informative video, thank you. The boating lake was always my favorite area. I lived in Cleethorpes for more than 20 years before eventually settling in Canada. I remember the waterfall being constructed but the pelican was a surprise!

I adore cleethorpes! It will always have a special place in my heart. My grandparents had always had a caravan there during the 80s and 90s. We would be there every half term, bank holiday and summer holidays. Our caravan site was situated next to the old Thorpe park theme park. Although it was a zoo in ruins when we first started going. I had the best times of my childhood in those arcades on the sea front. I can still remember playing operation wolf, rampage, pac-land, outrun and bubble bobble for the first time in the end arcade, pleasure world. I can see it in my head clearly. I can hear the sounds and smell the burgers, hot dogs and candy floss on the sea front.
Round the back was like an indoor children's adventure playground. My nan would take me and my sister to that and she'd sit in the cafe there for hours while we played.
We loved eating fish n chips from that chippy across from the pier. Now at the age of 41 I still have never found a chippy as tasty as that was.
In the late 90s and early 2000s I'd travel up with friends for a night out at the pier and the dolphin. Unfortunately I haven't been back to cleethorpes for about 20 year's. I'd love to back and visit the place.
I wonder if the swimming baths are still there on the sea front. Also that old boating lake. I remember going there to fish with my grandfather. I also saw the bbc radio 1 road show there in the early 90s.

I was born in Cleethorpes and lived in Grimsby for many years. Seen many changes as you pointed out tried to compete with cheap foreign holidays. What it does provide is a great option for the day tripper.

Cleethorpes could have been like Skegness which isn't to far away. The council at the time turned down Butlins. Cleethorpes needs development to attract more visitors. Cleethorpes has a big show ground that hardly gets used, which was intended to be for open air concerts and events. Which would put the town back on the map in my opinion. Nice video there is so much more to see and explore in Cleethorpes. Thank you.

      Sory, is dissagree.
I grew up going to Cleethorpes every year for holidays... My grand parents aunts and uncles all live either in or near by.
If you want Butlins and stupid stuff go to somewhere with Butlins and stupid stuff.
Cleethorpes is perfect as it is. It's glitz and glamour balanced out with its calmness and respect for its history.

Thankyou. Just found this channel and impressed by the tour. I know Cleethorpes well but learned more about it's history. You're doing a great job of sharing the wealth of places to visit in our own country.

My parents and grandparents were from there Went there many times. Stayed at my grans house on Constitutional Ave and made money renting out her front garden on Saturdays taking care of bicycles for the men going to the match. It's interesting to see how it's changed but still the same. I remember the donkey rides and the funfair on the beach.

Sorry if I'm being rude, but the United States has caused me to think this way. I'm a black American Grimsby Town F.C. supporter from Baltimore ,Maryland. I want to come so badly to Cleethorpe to see a match, but I'm scared I won't be accepted because of my skin color. Also my wife will be with me who is Caucasian. I don't know if we will be looked down upon or excuse my way of thinking ( America has had a bad affect on me) will we be safe enough to freely enjoy our visit. This issue has been my biggest reason from coming to see the Mariners. It's killing me. Any feedback is helpful. Thank you.

in my opinion, Cleethorpes has really gone down in recent years. It doesn’t help pleasure Island closed in October 2016. In my opinion Skegness is a lot better there’s more to do

A little fact for you, When Ross Edgely (the man who swam around the whole of the UK in one go) reached this rivers estruary, he thought he was swimming through literal sh*t. Don't swim here :)

Cleethorpes has got a clean water awards. The international blue flag for many number of years. This is due to fall out goes further down the coast towards tetney lock. About 6miles away.
