I wouldn't lionize Bowles too much - she was an enthusiastic practitioner of cancel culture for years and only found her principles when they came for her. Glad she did but she should start every interview with an apology and a call to other "progressives" to disavow that approach.

historically journalist in the USA have lived and died on the foundation of the first amendment of the Bill of Rights - regardless of political leaning. And indeed, there was a time that left leaning liberals cherished th 1st amendment.
But the left of today that has totally embraced hardcore Marxist ideology wants to trample the 1st amendment out of existence so that they can assert themselves as in complete authoritarian control and only they can purvey permissible ideological thought.
George Orwell's Big Brother is the depiction of what they aspire to.
They are the complete anthesis to the United States republic and are a complete anthesis to western civilization.
These kind of modalities (what the political left is in the West today) always mark the darkest chapters in human history.

Southern Poverty Law Center’s founder, Morris Dee, was one of my heroes as a teen & young adult. A young, black man was lynched in the early 1980s in South Alabama. Dees sued the Ku Klux Klan on behalf of that young man’s mother & won, forcing the KKK into bankruptcy & forcing them to sign over their land to that mother, a black woman. It felt like the great turning point in justice & race relations for my beloved South. Instead of letting KKK members off for unthinkable violence & crimes, Southerners were declaring that no one will cotton to racism anymore.
It broke my heart to learn that my former hero was a sexual harasser to female employees at the SPLC. If that weren’t bad enough, he turned his organization into a lying propaganda machine that has had a leading role in trying to stop free speech, the debate of ideas, & to literally destroy America itself. If morris Dees has any shred of humanity left, he should admit what he did & apologize to all Americans for trying to kill our Constitution & country.

All journalism, always, has been subject to bias and individual instances of abuse and it has always had a tendency to cozy up to power and money. The NY Times was never different, except that it seemed to be trying to maintain a standard of unbiased integrity and competent, thorough, factuality. It was never perfect but it was the Standard by which other papers were measured because it did the best it could. Watching the Times slide from that, slide from that to the partisan rag it has become on culture war and politics is incredibly distressing. The incredibly stupid idea took over in liberal arts education that since point of view is biased there's no point in trying and claiming to be unbiased. Perfect objectivity can't be done... so rather endorse your preferred truth as truth. This stupidity was endemic in elite liberal arts education... and that's became the NYTs reporter's pool and editorial pool and they played this idea out, dragging the NYT into the cesspool of 'advocacy' media, and because the NYT truly was journalism's flagship, they dragged the rest of journalism down with it. As there is no such thing as perfect objectivity, perfect good conduct, perfect health.... therefore I will lie when it suits me, steal when I have the opportunity, and smoke and drink and drug with abandon... since I can't be perfect why even try to be otherwise, I don't advise this style but it is perfectly congruent with contemporary journalism.... that's the quality of contemporary journalism underpinning philosophy. It is the idiocy we are living with/under. In general the nuanced academic ideas of post-modernity have been shorn of complexity and contradiction and reduced to the tedious insanity contemporary "elites" really believe: 1) the most important thing, always, are the WORDS you use. WORDS over reality. WORDS are the reality that matters. 2)There is no truth. Only power. And yes the man with the gun can force you to say anything... and yet... "e pur se muove."

It should hinge on the fact that a person who has (or even had) one of those is not a woman, and should not be in that space. Done. The fact that a person has a drivers license that says otherwise doesn't complicate the matter because it doesn't change reality, it simply demonstrates the Orwellian idiocy of the CA DMV and the kabuki theater of legal (and media) nonsense that necessarily follows.
