Ok so I figured out why your figure doesn't hold together in car mode and it's a very easy fix assuming yours is anything like mine which they should be. See how you can't force the legs together in robot mode and how they remain splayed out in an "A" stance? That's the problem. Rotate the hips around the opposite way. This should allow the legs to move inward and make it so that the legs now stand parallel to each other instead of in the "A" stance. Once you transform him with the hips oriented properly, it will allow the pelvis to sit flush and let the doors peg into the pelvis without being pushed out. So what you need to do is to move the legs up and into a "seated" position. Then split them outwards and to the back of the figure on the black ratcheted discs in the hips. Finish up by rotating the legs back down and spin the legs at the thighs to get them facing forward. Now the legs should be able to push together without wanting to spring back outwards into the "A" stance. That's all there is to it, assuming yours and everybody else's is the same as mine. It's similar to Beast Wars Transquito in a way. With Transquito, his legs remain splayed out in robot mode in an "A" stance. When you transform him into beast mode, you need to rotate the hips around so that the screws are facing forward in robot mode otherwise the legs won't peg together for beast mode. His fix is just unscrewing the hips and swapping them. Doing that will also make the details on the front of his hips make more sense in the way the lines go. As far as Universe Hot Shot goes, I love this figure. I wish they didn't fill in the gaps where the exhaust pipe/guns went and I wish Jolt didn't suck because he looks awesome, but it's still a great figure. And only one of my feet have that problem. One just flips up without any real pressure but the other one requires some force to flip it up and even then, it wants to flip back down on it's own and sometimes does. Since it doesn't come with the exhaust guns, I do the "boxing gloves" thing. Not only does it remind me of Gundam Maxter and I love that, but it's referenced in TCC's Dion figure so it's technically something the toy is designed to do. Or at least TCC adopted a fan mode into the bio/instructions or wherever it makes mention of it. Hope this fix helps people transform and appreciate Universe Hot Shot better. Assuming I don't have a freak version of it or anything.
I'll say this, thank God the Henkei version has some structural improvements. Aside from having the gap in the bumper and the guns, the toes also lock into place this time, thus preventing the figure from falling forward. Jolt still sucks though :P.
Congrats on the 100th video! I agree that the kibble makes the transformation a major pain, but the way the chest folds up and the hips come together always seems remind me a bit of the transformation in the cybertron scrapmetal molds...except for being a bigger headache thanks to all of the pain-in-the-behind kibble on Hot Shot of course :P
This toy was supposed to be based on the Henkei manga and a background cameo in the earlier IDW comics. Check TFWiki if you don't believe me. Despite being Armada Hot Shot, the article is a separate listing called "Hot Shot (Henkei)"
I think you're putting the cart before the horse here. The first Henkei manga issue to feature Hot Shot came out the same time as, if not slightly after, the Universe Hot Shot toy was released. What seems to have actually happened was that Takara added Hot Shot to the Henkei manga to promote the release of this figure in the Henkei toyline.
Honestly, something I try to keep in mind is its a toy first, display piece second. Action figures dont need to stand as a requirement in my eyes, because the child who uses it wont really be displaying it.
It may just be me, but I always preferres when the toys are capable of standing. Having the ability to leave a toy standing up, and having it still standing when I'm back to it it was always better
I wish they'd do a properly good Hot Shot one of these days. I don't mean a repaint of HOUND, I mean an actual, original mold Hot Shot. Seriously, Hasbro, what is the big problem here?
Sadly, Bumblebee happened, that's probably why we don't get Hot Shot so much anymore, hopefully if the rumors of Generations going back to being a bit of everything after Kingdom is true, I really hope we get an updated Hot Shot figure (and hopefully that Armada Prime that Takara teased a while ago)
Fun fact, the original armada hot shot WAS basically jounger, more involved bumblebee, then they made it more obnoctious, at time, because they tries to get hot ROD in the place Then the film happened, and bumblebee become smaller hot rod...
I like this figure, i don't have Hot Shot in my collection and i am considering this one since this is a decent Transformer Hot Shot. Also the AOE hot shot just looks like Tracks
Do you know whats funny is that the McDonalds (mabe Burger King) happy meal Hot Shot toy has posable shoulders however at the cost of his elbows and legs.
Runescape228's review of the TFCC Dion repaint of this figure shows you can mistransform the new Jolt figure to attach him to the rear bumper, though it leaves his face exposed from above...
I always liked the rally car seatbelt chest on Armada Hot Shot. Although, the X-shape of it kinda reminds me of the Gold and Silver Rangers from Engine Sentai Go-Onger/Power Rangers RPM...
Congratulations on the 100th episode. Of course it had to be hotshot, the only non reviewed one(or at least I think so) yet. This version of Hotshot does have some flaws and I hate this "broken piece look" similar to what Universe 2.0 Ratchet had. While it might look better in some parts and has way more articulation I still prefer the original toy for being more... stable ? I think you kinda see what I mean. Past me would've loved a armada remake, because it is possible to get good articulation AND design while still keeping most of the gimmicks.
They should have just given him the old Mini-Con. And he doesn't have a weapon anymore? They could have integrated his old weapon where it was before just without the gimmick and making it detachable so he holds it in his hand(s). And no comparison with the old one?
cioda this really isn't a "decent" figure or even much of an okay figure to be honest. Although I would be open to seeing a new Sideswipe or Sideways figure.
I got this figure... And wow... I almost like the original better... At least that one can hold a weapon. This one's hand pegs are almost an inch too small. The backpack is complete trash and makes me wish that I had the dumb Armada gimmick instead of the hell that the backpack gives me and give more of a purpose for having Jolt. This really should have just kept the missile launchers that the Henkei one had. It's not like this represents him having weapons any better especially when he can't even hold the Star Saber and he doesn't even have a molded reference to any weapons. And one other thing: PROMOTIONAL IMAGES AND HIS BOX SHOWS HIS ARMS IN A DIFFERENT POSITION! Go back and check it, his spoilers were intended to be on his front shoulders so the symbol was facing forward in robot mode. I don't know why this was ditched but it aggravates me to all end because in a line where they are trying to make figures more show accurate they purposely remove a way to make this one more accurate to the show and his original figure! That is honestly what brings this from a good or even okay to a bad figure to me. I can handle the kibble on the back, or that his feet are practically trash or that Jolt is practically useless to the figure. But making his hands too small and teasing a feature that doesn't exist on the figure is infuriating to me. I have to suggest that no one buys this trash unless you absolutely want it to finish your Armada Collection and hate the Armada Hot Shot that much.
Universe wasn't really made to be accurate. It was made as a continuation of the Classics line with representation for G1 mostly and occasionally some other series like Armada, meaning Hot Shot is more or less kind of a slight refresh of his original character.
If they do do new versions of the energon characters I hope it is more like POTP Battleslash, each one only becoming either a top or bottom. That way each figure should be able to sacrifice less for the gimmick

Man I wish I had TH-cam years ago
It helped loads. I actually like this toy thanks to you!
@@mechanwhal6590 Glad I could help. Sometimes it's the simplest things to change that are the "problem" with a "bad" figure.
The Henkei and the TFCC Dion recolor both had the missile launchers. They're also more stable in that the panels in the car mode hold together well.
I hurt my shoulders with that toy...
I'll say this, thank God the Henkei version has some structural improvements. Aside from having the gap in the bumper and the guns, the toes also lock into place this time, thus preventing the figure from falling forward. Jolt still sucks though :P.
A shame it didn't get a powerlinx red repaint.
Congrats on the 100th video! Wait, the reason for that clusterf**k of the back pack is because they filled in the holes where the weapons went?!?!?!
Looking at this review six years later I get the distinct feeling this version of hotshot was possibly based on the Audi TT
10:39 animated hot shot was never annoying as far as i know. Plus rescue bots academy hot shot either.
he is based of the jaAm comic in personality

finally a good review of this toy. i just got this one and the backpack is really frustrating

@@sithlord2225:)
it would be nice to get a new energon hotshot
i think they wanted to omage powerglide from the start for the show and also sparkplug with his head looking like bumblebee
I really liked Sarah Stone's Hotshot she did in Combiner wars. I would instantly buy a toy of that.
I like this figure, i don't have Hot Shot in my collection and i am considering this one since this is a decent Transformer Hot Shot. Also the AOE hot shot just looks like Tracks
I had a pavlovian response to the car mode because it looked like cyberverse Bumblebee.
Why my shoulders hurt?
Do you know whats funny is that the McDonalds (mabe Burger King) happy meal Hot Shot toy has posable shoulders however at the cost of his elbows and legs.
Do TF: Prime Thundertron
Runescape228's review of the TFCC Dion repaint of this figure shows you can mistransform the new Jolt figure to attach him to the rear bumper, though it leaves his face exposed from above...

JaAm is the British version of jelly and jelly is the British version of jello
Hey TJ when do you think you can do TJ review of Combiner Wars Devastator! I would love to hear your opinion of the toys!
Congratulations on the 100th episode. Of course it had to be hotshot, the only non reviewed one(or at least I think so) yet.

+ tjomega do you think we should get an IDW style rodimus and congrats I suppose on one hundred episodes of random review
They should have just given him the old Mini-Con.
And he doesn't have a weapon anymore? They could have integrated his old weapon where it was before just without the gimmick and making it detachable so he holds it in his hand(s).
And no comparison with the old one?
Lunatic Prime the Takara version came with two guns.
Also congratulations on 100 mark may there be a hundred more have some energon cheers ! [__]
Nice vid! Thanks for the review.
+tjomega pplleeaassee! Review cybertron megatron if its convenient
Is the original Jolt compatible with this HotShot?
is he worth a pickup?
you should give him the star sword that the original had.
While this may not be that good of a figure (It doesn't really hold up nowadays) It is loads better than the OG armada toy, Amirite?
Congratulations on a hundred Random Reviews, TJ. :) And I loved them using the jam reference. :D
oh, so thats were the Jam thing came from, no wonder bruticus was scared
he's got faults, but is definitely better than the hot shots you reviewed for plastic addict
Do his shoulders hurt?
With the kibble arranged in the original formation? Oh god is he in total agony.
Are Mondays now Armada Mondays?
i have the tfcc dion repaint. and he has the missal loncher. you do know the back piece can come off and go on his arms.
TJ, you did it again, you already reviewed this guy a long time ago. XD
Or at least, I think you did... Now I can't find the old video..
+Phantom9252 your probably thinking of the original figure...
Wait, haven't you already reviewed Universe Hot Shot? I'm almost positive you did this years ago...
+Spike Prime You might be thinking of Energon Hot Shot.
SilenceEnigma Possibly, but I could've sworn that, in a different video other than the brief showing of this figure, he'd reviewed this toy.
+Spike Prime He only did a mini review, same with the Cybertron Defense Hot Shot. It was during his BTR Hot Shot review on Plastic Addict I think
Nerdy Transformed Ahh, that makes sense.
Also, my complements to you for your awesome avatar--that early concept art for Armada Optimus is badass.
Thanks! I don't remember where I found it lol
Do a really good cybertron toy next
do prime hotshot.
I got this guy a long time ago and both him and Jolt fell to pieces so many times. I hated them.
I have a question for you TJ: if you could design your own transformer toy, what would it be like?
I knew I wasn't the only ones who hates the feet!
Jolt's pretty *ahem*... Well endowed
ahhh armada hot rod
hotshot need skit
Congratulations hotshot fore succesfuly geting out of reahab now stay away from crazy gimmicks and Bay and you will have a bright future ahead of you
so they made hotshot into a decent toy.
I wanna see sideswipe now. 😉 let's see them pull that one off
cioda this really isn't a "decent" figure or even much of an okay figure to be honest. Although I would be open to seeing a new Sideswipe or Sideways figure.
Megamanlanprime no. It’s actually a pretty cool figure. Fuck you
I got this figure... And wow... I almost like the original better... At least that one can hold a weapon. This one's hand pegs are almost an inch too small. JaAm
I am 12 and I enjoy transforming this toy... am I weird?
+Alexander Cabrera no
i am 13 and I still love transformers
Alexander Cabrera no. no your not. im 14 qnd love trannsformers
I am 15 and i still love transformrrs and i dont care when someone calls me a child
Nah You aren't
5:44 my jAaM coptor go soi soi soi
I abhor this figure. The original Armada figure beats the crap out of it. Hate hate hate this thing.
The original Armada figure was utter shite.
I find this one even worse.
Jason Sawyer I think he's better, but not much.
+Jason Sawyer the henkai verison fixes the problems
Jason Sawyer are u insane?
it would be nice to get a new energon hotshot
Decepticon Allbro definitely 😐😐
Nah. The Armada design has some redeeming qualities... the Energon design does not.
If they do do new versions of the energon characters I hope it is more like POTP Battleslash, each one only becoming either a top or bottom. That way each figure should be able to sacrifice less for the gimmick
