  • Finally got my df velomobile configured for 12-speed and a 65/36 chainring setup so I can do some climbing. And I have a new extension for the GoPro mount to test on descents. Met up with my friend John Abbey during my 147 km ride and he also tackled a Strava segment successfully.

    Incredible that the design allows such speed with human power only. I rode a Quest 7 years ago and it was wonderful but no where near as fast as this.

    British racing green might be a slow colour for a Jaguar but it looks like a really slow colour for a velomobile. Velos need to be light colours for them to go the fastest.

    is it difficult to shift from 65 to 36 and vice versa ? the chain could jump easily on big size difference of the chainring no ? BTW, great speedy ride, and you are handing your df very very well, stay safe !!

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, there are a couple of tricks that I needed to do to make the 65T/36T shift work properly. I use a 65T chainring with a built-in guard from Alligt so it cannot overshift. I also file down two teeth on the 65T chainring so it can more easily release the chain to drop down to the 36T.

      My friend unfortunately was killed by a drunk driver earlier this year. His fiberglass Quest XL is heavily modified. Well, I should say, it was. It was shattered into a thousand pieces when hit from behind. Anyway, he told me he made it much stiffer by adding reinforcement inside. And he had the swingarm replaced with a stronger one. I really miss riding with him.

    hello from germany I have DF XL since one month...can you give me some tips how fast I can go in corners....

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on how you sit (you want the center of gravity close to the front wheels). And you need to sit as low as possible. Also, the tires matter a lot for cornering grip. Then you can experiment with lower speed turns and see at what point you go up on 2 wheels or understeer (front wheels losing grip). Hope this helps.

  • @ArjenMeurs
    @ArjenMeurs 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see you are wearing a Casco RS helmet with visor; do yo like it? Can you rest your head with this helmet on its rear-side? With some helmets this just does not work well for me, and the Casco is quite an investment.
    I am considering buying a Insta360 OneX2 cam. Already have a mount with three suction cups (needs testing). I am thinking of putting the cam and mount in an aerodynamic shell made of a cheap soccer ball cut in two (one part serves as the shell). The cam should just stick out. Will tape the ball to the DF body. This set up may give a better streamline and also serve as a safety catch when suction cups let loose.

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I didn't see your comment until now. It's a good helmet because of the rounded back. But I don't like to rest it against the back, so I use a neck rest roll from Ventisit so I have a small gap. If you made that soccer ball modification, let me know.

    • @ArjenMeurs
      @ArjenMeurs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shenzhenpingpong That is ok. I bought a second hand Insta 360one and still figuring out how to mount it behind me on the DF, probably in same position as where you have the Gopro. But I don't like drilling a hole... How do your mirrors work in that position? I am happy with my Casco Speedairo 2 only my ears are kind of sticking out and there is a lot of wind noise as a result.
      I like your extensions where your shoulders are, only they might add safety if they were solid and would hold a body inside the shell during a roll-over (like in a Milan). In addition a 'halo' construction would add additional safety. This entire extra paneling should ideally flip forward as in a Milan. I have an idea for the construction of the carbon reinforced ribbing necessary for the halo.
      Now: time. What is your opinion? I think your aerodynamic additions are really good, only they need to become part of additional safety features as described above,

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArjenMeurs , a proper rollover bar and a halo is probably a good idea. Sounds like a cage of some sort. To execute the idea would require some expertise in carbon-fiber. Unfortunately, that's not currently in my domain of expertise yet.

      In daytime, the back has a Varia Radar taillight with pulsing red LED. Pulsing rate quickens when the car gets closer. Also, cars are individually tracked on the Garmin display unit. Plus there is a real-time rear view camera at the back. And a monitor inside the cockpit. Plus there is a mirror. For turns, there are LEDs turn signals front and back. And of course, there is a headlight up front. And there are constant-on red LEDs for night use. Then there are extra LEDs (non-standard) on the rear that can be switched on independently of the headlight.
