    The sport touring market was dominated by Honda's VFR 750 leading up to Y2K. Aprilia attempted to syphon off some of that market love with a little "futurastic" looking. Luckily that included mostly adjustable suspension bits.

    haHA!!! thats me and my #ItalianMistressNo2 !!!
    since then I followed Dave's advice and suggestions .... installed the Wilbur's rear adj shock, upgraded the OEM forks to racetech gold valves, Dave coached me and my mechanics all the way thru the process as needed.... Dave Moss is amazing, and the best at what he does, top shelf fella that @DaveMoss ❤️💪🏻❤️

    Bought a new Futura in 2002, in the sexy teflon pan dark gray, owned it for an enjoyable (and completely reliable) seven years. Its good handling more than made up for it being a bit underpowered, and roads were chosen accordingly!
    Excellent ergos paired with a really outstanding stock seat made long days easy, my best was 780 miles - if not for arriving at the destination I could've reached 1000! The Futura had very good heat management, hot Mojave desert crossings never cooked me, nor was it ever unpleasantly warm in slow summer traffic. On the flip side, its cool nature made for a chillier ride on cold days!
    Complaints? Yes - I'd say its worst trait BY FAR was the reactivity to gusting crosswinds often found along Highway 1 in Big Sur and SoCal canyons. The main issue was front-end lift bringing the nose up and squatting the too-soft rear suspension. Rear squat would bring the nose up more, increasing frontal lift in a sort of negative feedback loop that unloaded the front tire. I improved this behavior with a fully adjustable Wilbers rear shock and heavier spring, this kept more weight on the front tire by decreasing the tendency to squat the rear and lift the nose. Running stickier rubber also helped traction, with an added side benefit of more fun in the twisties…
    About the only other dislike was the damn blue LED instrument lighting that my eyes couldn't get a crisp focus with! Red or green panel lighting would be more legible, if not quite so trendy.
    Epilog: twenty years after purchasing it, the Futura is owned by a local roadracer who still rides the hell out of it! He never took the hardcases off, and says it's the most fun streetbike he's ever owned, and the tires used edge to edge back up his claim!
    Great bike, the Futura.

    Fantastic video. I just picked up 2003 RST 1000 , and I now feel fully confident that I can set my suspension up, just like I plan on doing everything else on it. Can't wait for long comfortable rides.

      I am excited to see how you start. Ergonomics is #1 then suspension #2. Once you get those sorted, the rest will follow quite naturally. If you want to share your setting for other Futura riders, please "pay it forward!"

      Welcome to our sport! I hope you enjoy the content. Please start with ergonomics, then go to fork bottom out videos based on your motorcycle and then shock travel. Work through each one in order.

      Thanks for the kind words. Make sure you have the suspension serviced so it is not a lava lamp you are riding :) Get rebound set correctly is really important as is fork travel used, so set up a test ride day and assess how much travel you have and with hot fork and shock oil, test rebound to see if you have it set correctly: th-cam.com/video/Q1r10TcUpaw/w-d-xo.html

    excellent video my friend. I would like to know what type of rear shock absorber you recommended for this aprilia rst1000 since I have one and I want to know which one is ideal. I like your channel and I would appreciate it if you could support me with this information. Thank you!

      Yisus, I put a Wilbers 641 on mine. It was not inexpensive (German!) but was fully adjustable: hydraulic spring preload, rebound, and hi / lo speed compression damping.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest a brand that provides you with preload, rebound and compression adjustments. I would also suggest that you look at what brands local shops service and are easily purchased in your area. Brand names like KTech, Nitron, Ohlins, Penske, WP are great to have, but if no one can work on them it makes no sense to own them.

      jesus, this is my bike featured in the video and per Dave Moses recommendations I reached out to nitro and they weren't able to help me however I reached out to Wilbur's and they put a 641 on along with race tech gold valves on the front forks the machine handles fantastically now! thank you @dave moss tuning
