One of my first cars was a 1970 Mach 1 428 SCJ-R 4.30 auto red with black interior. Still remember the vin from nearly 50yrs ago. Always loved the 70 Mach 1's.
I am not a Ford guy. But as a longtime collector, I have owned a few. I had a Mach 1 428 SCJ. Lots of options. It was a jade green. Don’t know the code or correct name. It was a very nicely restored car. I didn’t have it long. Somebody offered me what I thought was crazy money. All beside the point. I watch your work despite my indifference to Fords. Your work is Top Shelf. Sticking to a certain car type has many strong advantages. I appreciate your clean, organized, and methodical approach. No wasted motion. Congratulations!
For sure. I owned a ‘70 Mach 1 back in the early/mid ‘70’s. The reason interiors like this are so rare is that NO ONE wanted a green or blue interior! They are still BUGLY IMO.
Personally I find that a desirable combo with the 428, toploader, deluxe interior and color. You get a lot of people saying Mustangs should have this or have that but as a vintage Mustang owner it's really about what you like in your personal car.
I'm in awe watching you work especially all by yourself....your work ethic is amazing...what a great role model you are for your son. Keep up the good work 👏 💪
When I was 10 back in 1970, my neighbor had a 70 SCJ Torino in that same color combination. It was the baddest car in Roxborough!!! I thought at the time!!!
My personal all time favorite was seeing him working on the Black Boss 429 ow my word the work was second to none it looked absolutely beautiful like she never saw any issues she was a Gorgeous Black Beauty this is 2nd to my ❤️ Green on Green and Gorgeous....
Gotta say man That is the 2nd green interior that is fully intact that I've seen . Not a widely preferred option if I'm not mistaken. If that's all original pieces Whoever it is they took great care of it. Another banger there Ben
My first car was a sixty nine Mach1 428 super Cobra Jet. The color was Black Jade It had just about all of the options you could think of. But that car was road hard And put away wet. I end up getting rid of the car and drove a 67 deluxe interior coupe with a factory 4 speed. I grew up around old Mustangs, considering I'm old too LO.L. I like the coupe better because you can see out the back window lol.
Want to say thank you this brings back great memories my first car out of the military was a 1970 fastback 351 same exact color combo deluxe interior and I had the motor rebuilt at Larson and King Racing they did a fantastic job hardened seats screw in studs guide plates roller rocker roller cam crower beast cam offenhauser 4V intake and a big block carb the car would absolutely fly and I loved her I still want another with the same exterior color it's a beautiful color
I also have a pumped M-code In my '70. I wouldn't trade for the (boat motor) 428. I think the lighter, high-winding Cleveland makes for a better handling road racer.
Been there, done that 40 years ago ('69 CJ 4sp, shaker, jade green black interior). This has the reinforced shocktowers like mine had. Never figured out why some big block cobra jets had them while some didn't. I did keep the assembly line build order I found under the carpet.
Wow that's a great project. Looking forward to getting my 65 coupe back together.I pulled the engine 5 years ago to detail and detune it. Too much cam etc. Ended up stripping it and painting it. It's a process. Thanks
Man that is gooooorgeous. Great color combo. peak Mach. I have one too...m-code with toploader and headers...i have never been able to pull the engine with the headers on...engine out 5 times and have had to loosely tie them to the aprons and the z-bar out. Maybe should get a 428...
Beautiful car ! I can't believe how much that car is worth & there is one of those glass " I will burn your car down " fuel filters on it . I'm so enjoying your channel
I bought a 69 428 SCJ in 1977 for $ 800 , it was kinda rough and the engine had several burnt exhaust valve seats and when I got it running good it would lay rubber about as far as I wanted! Wish I still had it
Cool car, 69 & 70 Fastbacks have always been my faves I had a 69 sportroof back in the 80's, Nothin' special just a windsor, Shock towers were cracked so i sold it. I've always wanted a Mach 1, Preferably big block, Just dreamin' at this point of my life.
NICE! That's the exact stance I'd like mine to be when I finish in 3 years... I was hoping you were going to have to replace the full shock tower front frame rail assembly on both sides. That's where I have start.
NOTHING is more difficult than trying to install headers on a ‘69 -‘70 428 CJ Mustang. Just changing the plugs was incredibly difficult. If you took one of these cars to a Ford dealer for a tune up back in the day they actually charged enough labor time to pull the engine part way out in order to change the plugs.
Your shop is more like a NASA clean room. Organized and super clean. Speaks t9 the way you do your work. I wish I still had my ‘70 Boss and could afford your work to make it new again. Great videos. Even though you go step by step… no way most of us could do 5hat job. Not sure if you ever mentioned it in any of your videos, but how long have you been doing that type of restoration and where did you receive your training/knowledge?
I can’t believe the owner wouldn’t take this opportunity while the engine is out to freshen the engine, install a new water pump, put a new clutch in it, etc. There aren’t many classic muscle cars tougher to work on under the hood than 428 CJ Mustangs.
Glad to see 🙈 you back in action brother !!! This should be a fun little project, compared to the usual, "ground" up shell construction 🚧 job you bring us.. Can't wait to for the next installment!!! Will you be at the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle PA this weekend? I'll be looking for you 😊, if so .. God bless ..
I had a kermit green sigma with green vinyl trim a metallic blue sigma with blue velour trim, but i think you are going to need new front rails new inner guards and new shock towers , and rust patchs for outer guards/fenders . But maybe talk the owner into the newer coilover and ditch the towers for extra header clearance
1st! woohoo, nice work mate. After you do the tidying up and remove the rust spots will the owner repaint it? you did say the paint job was like 40 years old.
Before I watch I'm predicting more patches needed? I'll see what happens. Less than I expected. PS With all the battery electric tools I'm surprised no one seems to make an electric engine hoist.
Cool car. I always liked how they had so many interior colors back then. Everything now is black, gray or tan. Maybe a red interior available in certain models/packages. A lot more choices back then. More variety of exterior colors too. Ford's exterior color choices right now are pretty limited. White, red, black, maybe a blue or two and a whole lot of variations of gray. Pretty bland. Looking forward to the updates.
Love the Green Mach 1 . Great job so far. But please do your self a favor and start using some battery powered ratchets and drivers. Your wrists will thank you . Also Do you have a list of projects you have for sale?
I looked through a lot of the comments and no one else seems to have noticed. Why does a 1970 Mach 1 with 28,000 mi on it have Shelby tail lights? Given the aftermarket coil and God knows how many other modifications that were done to this car, have you checked the VIN number to make sure it really is a Mach 1?
Just curious/general comment. I see you have a couple of battery operated power tools/impacts……but you sure wore out the hand tools on that disassembly!! I know during assembly, hand tools are probably preferred to protect expensive paint, but I’d think disassembly it wouldn’t be so critical. Oh, and that’s some pretty terrible paint on that car. If they got the hood stripes wrong, wonder what else is wrong. Hope a repaint is in that cars future!!
Those Goodyear Eagle STs haven’t been produced since the ‘90s - I hope the owner doesn’t drive any distance or speed with them. Also, that looks like a nice original survivor car. A good cleaning and replacement with original parts is all that is needed - please don’t paint anything.
Don't stop there! That GD upper radiator hose, talk about UGLY. Why do people put those on any nice vehicle I will never understand! The battery cables, that Accel ignition coil, the yellow plug wires, the rusty brake booster. Ben, I hope you read this.
I love how casually you say, yeah I'm going to work on a 70 Mustang 428 Super Cobra Jet and then hop on the Boss 429 😂😂😂 Great channel!!!👍👍
Which one is faster?
This young man has so much talent he makes it look easy love saving the mustangs there special cars
One of my first cars was a 1970 Mach 1 428 SCJ-R 4.30 auto red with black interior. Still remember the vin from nearly 50yrs ago. Always loved the 70 Mach 1's.
I can't believe you pulled the engine with the headers still on it, that's amazing.
Header bolts on these are a nightmare
I am not a Ford guy. But as a longtime collector, I have owned a few. I had a Mach 1 428 SCJ. Lots of options. It was a jade green. Don’t know the code or correct name. Black Jade.
It as called silver jade ,I had one that colour. Wish I still had it.
R code is the 428 and they are Ratner rare the convertible mustang big block SCJ 428 CARS are the absolute best and rarest to find
@earlnieforth7572 the silver jade is a bit lighter the black jade was the darker of the colors
Mr Peterson looking forward to your up coming videos .Regards Rob
It's a pleasure to watch you work your magic on all these great cars. Thank you for sharing and saving our history.
Funny how times change......all the color combos we used to hate are now the coolest!
For sure. I owned a ‘70 Mach 1 back in the early/mid ‘70’s. The reason interiors like this are so rare is that NO ONE wanted a green or blue interior! They are still BUGLY IMO.

Amazed. You truly are a one man show. Made me a little nervous pulling that hood alone but you obviously know what you are doing.
I'm in awe watching you work especially all by yourself....your work ethic is amazing...what a great role model you are for your son. Keep up the good work 👏 💪
Since that car was no longer original paint this was a great approach to cleaning it up and proactively dealing with some rust.
I had the pleasure of driving one back in the 70s. What a rocket!
When I was 10 back in 1970, my neighbor had a 70 SCJ Torino in that same color combination. It was the baddest car in Roxborough!!! I thought at the time!!!
My Dad had a '70 Torino, 351 c.i. I drove fast every time I borrowed it.
That must have been Awesome!!
My personal all time favorite was seeing him working on the Black Boss 429 ow my word the work was second to none it looked absolutely beautiful like she never saw any issues she was a Gorgeous Black Beauty this is 2nd to my ❤️ Green on Green and Gorgeous....

Thanks for doing videos again, I am sure they are time consuming but we really enjoy them!
I owned one a long time ago. Bright gold metallic.
What a great video … looking forward to its rebuild … 👍
Wow that's a great project. Looking forward to getting my 65 coupe back together.I pulled the engine 5 years ago to detail and detune it. Too much cam etc. Ended up stripping it and painting it. It's a process. Thanks
67-68 fastback are my favorite.
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out and the repairs you do thumbs up.
Man that is gooooorgeous. Great color combo. peak Mach. I have one too...m-code with toploader and headers...i have never been able to pull the engine with the headers on...engine out 5 times and have had to loosely tie them to the aprons and the z-bar out. Maybe should get a 428...
Impressive, one man crew!
I can't wait to see the this car finished, you sir are a magician with metal!
Great pair of Mustang you are working on. Keep up the videos.
Love it Ben! You're truly a craftsman.
That a rare one for sure...can't wait to see work on both of those cars ...great content and thanks 🔧🔧👍

1977? 45 years ago.
@@stoveguy2133 yeah so..I graduated high school in 73.

I had one just like it but with a CJ engine back in 1974. Same color.
When a Mustang looked like a Mustang.
Nice tear down! Jack, RI, USA
Thanks for the videos. I absolutely love what you do, You have my dream job of working on old mustangs!
NICE! That's the exact stance I'd like mine to be when I finish in 3 years... I was hoping you were going to have to replace the full shock tower front frame rail assembly on both sides. That's where I have start.
I love the work you do. I wish I could afford some of those cars.
Nice work!! Those headers couldn’t have been fun..

Reminds me of a clean room at Intel cleanliness is everything in building any car the right way no mix ups amazing work and ethic
Your fast spot on and amazing work
cool , a 428 and a 429 in the shed at one time

It is getting freshened up just not pulling heads off, new water pump thermostat all gaskets plug wires etc.
@@petersonrestorations - Cool. Was the engine itself recently rebuilt?
Glad to see 🙈 you back in action brother !!!

I missing this year due to a wedding
You have the best job in the world great video
I definitely can’t complain
You are one bad dude nice job
Amazing work…one man operation.
Lovely video.
That's a really nice car - can't wait to see more. Excellent work
Your videos are great, informative and engaging, the audio quality is good,I like the background music myself.
428 is a better engine than the 429 that car is a gem with top loader 4spd
I had a kermit green sigma with green vinyl trim a metallic blue sigma with blue velour trim, but i think you are going to need new front rails new inner guards and new shock towers , and rust patchs for outer guards/fenders . Hmmm, no push/twist hood locks on the 428?
27,000 miles? Looks a lot more tired than that. Great work, looking forward to your progress on this project.
A beauty!!!
For God's sake take that glass fuel filter off that car quick,,,before it accidentally catches fire!!! Jeez & love your work. Top notch
Beautiful class mustang 🐎
Don't let Chris drive it , it get rag out and end up in the junk yard lol 🤣
Love this channel, found it today, I would love to see you build a 70 Grande with 70 Boss 429 guts, only seen 1 in a magazine years ago!
Mr. B. Here ! 🍔🍸👀😎👍 Nice work ! At JFK 🛩️ will try to follow ! 👀😎👍🇺🇸
wow that yellow ignition coil 🤔
1st! woohoo, nice work mate. After you do the tidying up and remove the rust spots will the owner repaint it? you did say the paint job was like 40 years old.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!
Nice
Good i can see steps to put my 70 fastback backtogther
What Black will you be using in the engine bay. I use to use Semi-gloss but I think I like Satin better if everything else is pristine.
I use a engine bay 30-40% gloss paint
SHWEET !!!!!
I wonder if the green interior was special order. I though almost all or maybe all were either black or white.
It was an option for that year
Love the Green Mach 1 . Great job so far. But please do your self a favor and start using some battery powered ratchets and drivers. Your wrists will thank you . Also Do you have a list of projects you have for sale?
Currently don’t have any for sale
Day 2 coil super coil

Back in the 70s and 80s people didn’t care what they did to these cars not knowing it’s future value
Just curious/general comment.

I've seen this many times before. Gloss black on the rear wing spoiler is incorrect.
I was wondering if you’ve ever worked on the 71-73 Mustang. I have a 72 Q code Mach 1 I’m working on now.
Yes but not many
So there was some repaired accident damage?
Please get rid of the glass fuel filter there a fire waiting to happen lost my car to one because it leaked
Gone!
Implore the owner to get those ST's off there. Those tires are almost 40 years old
It’s in for tires as well
Those Goodyear Eagle STs haven’t been produced since the ‘90s - I hope the owner doesn’t drive any distance or speed with them.
Also, that looks like a nice original survivor car. A good cleaning and replacement with original parts is all that is needed - please don’t paint anything.
Don’t worry I’m replacing tires while it’s in
Prepare to be dissapointed.he stated clearly that he's going to paint the engine bay.smh.
I think he said the whole car has already been repainted so doesn't matter much now
What color green is that?
Dark Ivy Green
Whyyyyyyyyy?
Ikr
27k mile car? I don’t think so. nice car though
I would have power washed under the hood, changed those ugly heater hoses and left it alone
Don't stop there! That GD upper radiator hose, talk about UGLY. Why do people put those on any nice vehicle I will never understand! The battery cables, that Accel ignition coil, the yellow plug wires, the rusty brake booster. Ben, I hope you read this.
Also, talk the customer into having his headers ceramic coated if they are in good enough shape. That bare metal/rust look sucks.
All of those are getting replaced and going back to original exhaust manifolds
Love your videos except for the music and time lapse wish your videos were a little longer and more detailed work
