The initial fear had a lot to do with the signs you put up. The deer knew that they weren’t natural… I think the cracked corn is much easier to chew up and the smell gets out more quickly to tell the deer to come and eat. There is a semi-clear coating on each piece of corn that hardens as it drys out in the fall. That’s what made it hard and protects it until it’s planted.
Raccoons like softer food, and choose insects and grubs over hard corn given a choice. They LOVE fresh cob corn, and will beat the farmers to the crop. They have some grinding teeth, but, being omnivores, have sharper teeth in the front, so grinding corn is hard for them. They would definitely go for a wet corn mash no problem. The deer get a lot more careful and nervous as hunting season approaches too. They always seem to know.🖤🇨🇦
I put cracked corn out the day before gun season and I had a deer come right in and I shot the next week I had more cracked corn and I had a 8 pt 162 lbs come out so I think they prefer crack corn also added oats.
