Thank you all so much for the reception on this video, 10,000+ views in just over a week is huge to me. ☺ ➡Next up, a NEW video to build on this one is currently in progress, should be released in the next few days as I work through editing. (topic was hinted in this video)
I actually played cs 1.6 for the first time in an Internet cafe in Russia in 2002 when I was 7. And like that I became instantly addicted and have had a passion for video games ever since. Of course it was a pirated version, no one paid any fees to Valve.
@@BriJeeTVGameDev in what world are you living to think some random russian internet cafe has something like steam cyber cafe, steam didnt even exist till 1.6 and i NEVER seen any internet cafe with this service :D bruh imagine some shady turkish or indian scammer chef would buy a license for cs hahahahahahahahahha
@@GodOfGamingBGprobably, for us it was just "counter strike", nobody mentioned the version number back then. Only years later I learned that it was 1.6 or more precisely 1.5 like you said
I used to go to an Internet cafe with my dad when i was 5-7 years old. Played Sven Coop and CS all the time. That was circa 2005. Miss those days for sure
Thanks so much :) To add to that, me as well having played CS for the past decade across all its titles, I had no idea about this until I saw an article and did some digging, it is really interesting stuff and I have more to come on similar topics too
90's kid here, cybercafes have a special place in my heart. LAN games of cs 1.3, oh the memories... There was this trick were you can change the name of the nickname of the person who was hosting with a command prompt, cmd name and you can bet how fun that was.
This is pretty insightful, considering that that south koreans are known for being good at mobas and Fighting games specifically, in an other world if this lawsuit didn't happen cs would be way more prominent there and possibly develop east asia to have a more popular fps scene in general (like how cs 1.6 developed in CIS)
We had an internet cafe/LAN party spot at my local comic shop in the late 90's early 00's back in Pennsylvania. Spent my last years as a teenager there. Good times. You guys born in the 90's/00's missed out. I remember this lawsuit, made for good conversation on Planethalflife forums each time something popped up, because we didn't know which direction it was gonna go. Great job summing up our years of stressing with Valve in under 9 minutes lol
Could you cover Soldier Front? The rise, the fall, the good, the ugly. I don't think I've ever seen anyone cover that before, the game was massive for the time and it was a lot more fun than Counter Strike imo.
Cross fire sounds like a interesting topic. Has the eastern side ever got another cs clone thats been more up to date with graphics and technology other than crossfire
There are many CS clones to come from Asia I’d say, primarily out of South Korea. I talk about Crossfire in my latest video, and it’s the biggest one by far, and did see a few other spin-offs with some sort of updated graphics, but were never as popular as the original.

I've been to only a couple of pc cafes and will always be the only one playing counterstrike. And when I queue, it is mostly chinese. only a handful of koreans.
its pronounced bong. like what u musta been smokin on to not look up a pronunciation guide jk cool video big fella. also the comment about never hanging out at a lan center made me feel mad old. rip planet x
Until Valve released the Sourcecode for Goldsrc and Counter-Strike, the game will never grow properly. Valve is not the creator of CS, yet now they pretend they are.
My username? But haha nope, I don’t have any family from there, my name relates to an old Cold War era Radar system, it’s a period of history I’ve always had an interest in (and it’s a cool sounding word to me lol)
@@Retro-Calico Oh that's pretty cool! Zaslon means screen in my native tounge of croatian and a few other slavic languages, so i thought you might have some relatives from there. After looking into it, it seems that it was a russian radar system, and that the name actually means "barrier", pretty cool nontheless!

got to have been 1.5, as 1.6 was released in september 2003
It was not pirated, do you know about Steam Cyber Cafe old service? It gives acess for 20 or 30 comps per license

You should explain crossfire because I have no fucking idea what it is still
It's just a Korean copycat of Counter-Strike 1.6. Fun fact, it uses the same engine as F.E.A.R.
yep
I might have to do another video soon then :)
@@Swattii and it's still quite popular in Asia. Mostly China and South Korea.
Crossfire is a technology that allows you to run 2 amd graphics cards on one pc.
This unheard story easily flew under the radar or so I've been told. Regardless, it's a cool fact that a lot of peeps out there should know about.
As someone with 5.5k hours in CSGO/CS2 i had no idea about this,This was all really interesting and I'm glad youtube suggested it. Good stuff man

I knew about this lawsuit being a thing, but never realized how complex the entire thing was.
Should keep in mind, steam was complete ass when it came out and a strict downgrade from the reliability of the old WON servers.
Wrong statement.
