I grew up watching the cubs, and my favorite player still to this day is Ryne Sandberg. Oh and forgot to mention I am all the way out here in sunny San Diego Cali! I remember running home to watch the cubs and hear Harry Carey mess up Latin names daily! Life was sooo great then, I wish I could turn back time!

Good riddance. Missed most of their games after they left WGN America and went to just WGN in Chicago here in Iowa.

If there's a dumb decisions for team logo, the mid 2000s Blue Jays were one of them in my opinion (along with the black uniforms).
Luckily they went back to the original logo before the 2012 season.

Their current logo is a redesign of their original logo. Also their uniforms back then really stood out with a black and darker blue.

Sorry to disappoint you, but those Blue Jays uniforms come nowhere close to the abomination that the so-called "Anaheim Angels" spewed out in 1997. Those Mickey Mouse outfits they wore for several years made me want to vomit, and they were a complete disgrace to the sport of Major League Baseball. All the previous California Angels logos and uniforms throughout their team history were great.

The early 90s interlock C A is quite underrated. I also liked the lower case a with the halo

2004 Blue Jays logo perfect for Football, Basketball and Hockey but not for baseball

this is really amazing backstory to me. As a Cubs fan who'd never heard of Lilly before he came to the Cubs, I always saw him as the type of pitcher who probably isn't going to shut the other team out, but also very rarely got blown up for tons of runs--if your hitters did their jobs, Ted Lilly was going to at least give you a chance. I suppose it shows the power a dysfunctional clubhouse atmosphere has to ruin any player.

I remember that 2008 Blue Jays team
They fired manager John Gibbons 4 days later after this game.
Cito Gaston took over and they went on a huge 2nd half surge to an 86-76 record.
I was then shocked to find out in the 2012-13 offseason they were actually bringing back John Gibbons.
I know he led them to the ALCS 2015-2016 but that was just an experiment they should’ve never tried twice with that guy

I was working with the Cubs in 2008. I remember this game. 2008 should have been the year but when the playoffs started on Wednesday October 1st, the hitters once again didn't show up for the best team in the NL. The stars were aligned that season until that day

That 2008 Cubs team was so good tied Tampa for the Major League lead in wins with 97 had multiple all stars with Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano, Kerry Wood, Carlos Zambrano, and other stars like Derrek Lee, Mark Derosa, Jim Edmonds. That team was loaded managed by Lou Pinella. I was sure that team was the team that would break the curse at 100 years exact. Unfortunately they failed in the playoffs and us Cubs fans had to wait 8 more years to finally experience the thrill of winning the World Series.

Too bad that version of Lilly rarely appeared in a Jays uniform. I wonder why he was so shaky there.

Mets fans can think of another infamous cab ride (thanks to a late night food craving). JG, may I humbly submit a request on the night Duaner Sanchez craved Dominican food in Florida.

This is very similar to what happened in February 1993 when Eric Cantona returned to Elland Road as a member of Man United as they took on Leeds United. For some context back in April 1992, Cantona was signed by Leeds United from French club Nimes & he helped them win the English League title. However by November of that year the relationship between the two became very strained especially after coach Howard Willkinson left him out of the lineup for multiple games even though Leeds had gotten off to an awful start to the season. Furious at this, Cantona demanded a transfer & bitter rivals Man United took full advantage & signed Cantona at the end of November. Leeds fans were livid about this decision & Cantona became public enemy #1 in the city after the transfer. This led to Cantona's return to Elland Road being one of the most hostile games in Premier League history with Leeds fans unsuccessfully trying to throw coins at Cantona & several fans hurling personal insults at him when he took a corner kick. The insults got to the point in which Cantona snapped at one fan and spat directly in his face. However like with this, the insults motivated Cantona as he assisted twice & scored in a 3-0 win which helped boost Man United's chances of winning the first ever Premier League title even though he did get fined for the spitting incident.

Fortunately that was the only time a Chicago athlete had an issue with a taxi driver around this time lol
