      That’s a nice idea for Christmas or birthdays but you would want to wash the note really well and even then, put it in a small ziplock style lunch bag/packet.Urgh, maybe not as the plastic and depending upon what the note is made of could potentially melt in the baking heat especially if it’s not entirely covered by a decent quantity of dough while cooking. Perhaps you could make a hole in the cooked roll and slipped it in.

      If you're using dry active yeast, yes you need to sponge it first (proof it). However, if the recipe calls for instant yeast, then you can add it directly to the flour mixture.

    Mine never puffed at 20 minutes :(
    I panicked....
    I took the ball out and cut them into balls, rolled them around a bit and put them in an oiled pan and covered to let proof. They did proof this time :)
    Then I buttered them and put them straight in the oven. I baked them and when they came out I brushed on the butter mixture again. They were delicious! 😋

    I made this recipe, last year, and I used only, Bread Flour....thus, I needed a couple tablespoons of milk, in addition to the milk called for in this recipe. The Bread Flour made these awesome, huge, light, fluffy, soft.....and I added Cardamom to the dry mixture....omg.....my family loved them! I only used the butter on the top with a tiny bit of sugar blended in......so good!!

    Does this dough prove OK in the fridge for 24 or so hours? Say I make it tonight to bake tomorrow evening? Would you suggest a different recipe etc. Just wondering

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes, you may do that. Make the dough, and then you can refrigerate it before it proofs, it will continue to proof in the fridge overnight.
      About an hour or so before you wish to bake remove from the fridge, shape, and proof for baking. The act of shaping the dough will speed up the proofing of the rolls. They should be ready to bake in an hour or so.
      You can also do this using the no-knead method of fermenting the dough. That will mean, mixing the ingredients, allowing to proof at room temperature for an hour or so, then refrigerate without kneading. Shape, proof, and bake!
      Try it, a sample bake, you can freeze the rolls too,
      Gemma 🙂

    Do I have to put water in the oven while baking then or it's not needed?

    • @biggerbolderbaking

      Hi Javeria. No , it is not needed in this recipe.

    Can you use bread flour if that is all you’ve got?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can, but you will get a different result - a more dense or compact roll.

    Can I put eggs on the recipe? And how many ?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need eggs in this recipe. But if you do, one egg will do, You also need to reduce the other liquids, otherwise, you will have a very wet dough if you add the egg on top of the liquids in the recipe.

    I never had dinner rolls before, but I kinda want to try this recipe, it sounds amazing. I'd omit the garlic though (due to allergies), but just butter and parsley sounds great too. I wonder if there are other things I could add though, like sprinkling salt over the unbaked dinner rolls, to make them kind of pretzle-like?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can sprinkle salt on them if that is a preference. I am not sure about making them kind of pretzel-like as these are soft and airy as opposed to compact and salty.

    I heard you bite into that crispy bottom layer.. hungry now 😋
    Also, now that you have been to dubai I am expecting a kubhuz recipe. i.e., Baked Pita bread/arabic bread. I have always been curious how they get the inside to puff up hollow like that?

    Hey there :) Thanks for sharing. I'll bake them for sure but as I'm French, I wonder what you can eat them with. Are they supposed to replace bread??

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is bread, but if you mean it's there to replace loaf breads for dinner, then yes it is.

  • @nyusere

    Omg this looks amazing, but how would you do them without the mixer? I don't have one, but I'm really missing bread in this quarantine... does it a hand mixer works too? Or how to make them with your hands only?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a hand mixer, attach the dough hooks to make this. You can also make this manually.

    I only have a little snack oven. Maybe a silly question... Can I proof the dough in a dehydrator at low temp? I can bake in the snack oven, no problem, but proofing is another thing 😄

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not used a dehydrator. And I am not totally sure how would it affect the moisture of the dough.
      You can proof it in a warm corner of the room. A bowl of very hot water beside it helps as well. Hope this answers your question

      I'm not Gemma, but I'd say yes, just divide into 8 not 16. then place on baking sheet so they don't touch. Or you can stick with 16 for sliders. It's what I was thinking of doing. My mouth is watering just thinking of it, LOL

    And now I'm starving... You're killing me Gemma. I'm just sitting here trying to be good, trying not to make a big meal, trying to be lazy. Now I need to make rolls... NEED to. It's a necessity to my psyche now, my taste buds, tummy, and brain are ganging up on me. I'm going to blame you for this, there is no way I'm taking responsibility for the amount of baking I'm going to be doing. I'm going to tell everyone Gemma made me.
