What you call ''a centrist from the US'' is a nearly far-right person because your only two politcal parties are a right party and a far-right party. Basically, you're just using the word wrong. Centrist in politics doesn't mean ''between two things'' it means in the politcal center. So no, the definition of it doesn't change between countries.
