Edd, I’ve worked on electronic systems for over 30 years. The cardinal rule about electrical safety is to use 1 hand on the tool and do not grab a ground (earth) surface to complete a circuit or you will create a path from hand to hand across your heart. Also, the voltage is not what kills you, it’s the current. It only takes 0.1 amp of current to stop your heart.
Thank you for demonstrating your electrically safe tools. They do make a difference in safety.

Thanks Edd for being a teacher for all of us. It’s hard to keep people’s attention and you do it naturally. Many of us know as much as you do but it’s always nice to get a passionate persons spin on different things.
You may not have realised it but you have touched on what your next project show will be and that is building new vehicles like electric or hydraulic or what ever propulsion method you can think of. Also solar wind powered homes, buildings etc. “A tech living show”. I think the car thing has been done every which way now so time to leave that behind in your history.

Fully aware nobody asked but I’m throwing in my 2p’s worth anyhow.
1: surgeons forceps. Cheap to buy. Grip small things more securely than fingers (that’s what my misses says anyway). Fit anywhere. Just buy some. They will change your tinkering life.
2:Deep sockets over regular. Then you can get hold of them better for spinning things in or out with your fingers.
3: As many torches / lamps as possible. You can never have too much light on a job.
4: the finest toothed flex head ratchet in each size you can find. Access gets worse by the day it seems.
5: endoscope. It should be classed as cheating, it makes things that would take hours to get to visible in seconds.
    You’re welcome..........

Good points sir. Pound through screwdrivers are also great for crusty old things. I bought some “aviation spanners” which are great. Really long ring ended spanner’s with no angle on the ends basically. Gives you the option to get your hands out of awkward spaces where spanner rash may occur.

Another use for those rubber gloves i found was when i had a Renault alliance that didn’t like wet weather. Moisture always got into the distributor and made driving an adventure. With zero money i ended up cutting the finger tips off of one rubber glove and had coil and spark plug wires coming through the finger holes. A piece of wire held the wrist part tight around the distributor shaft. No more problems.

@@Coxy002605 in welding you have massive Amps but only about 12 v, Where as a taser or electric fence for example gives you thousands of volts but mAmps,
Edd correct about 60V and above is required but also above about 50 mA hence power tools are 50,0,50 volts and Rcd's trip at about 30mA.
And on a conventional car where the electrical supply is capable of delivering hundreds of amps but only at 14volts you cannot get electrocuted,
But in a hybrid there is a 3 phase 200v generator it's quite possible to get fatal shock,

voltage doesn't kill, current does. that's why people survive lightning strikes, which are up to one billion volts.

Voltage doesn't kill you, current does. I have accidentally grabbed the plugs when pulling something out of the wall socket which is 120V, it gave me a good shock but I was fine.

It's the volts that jolts but the mils that kills.

I wish people would stop parroting this nonsense. Voltage and current are inseparable, you can't have one without the other. The reason you were fine after your shock is because domestic voltages are nowhere near high enough to cause serious injury or death (unless you're very unlucky). Even in industry with 400V+, most shocks cause nasty burns and not much else.

1:23 I am an American and the very rude name for this tool was always "Master Key." We would inevitably use this to open padlocked chests, cabinets and doors. The downside of the master key is you cannot re-lock the padlock after.
