Truly wild van life camp in Scotland

- This week our VW California camper van was treated to an off grid camp in the wilder side of the Scottish Highlands, deep in the Cairngorms national park. We camped near Loch Muick, on the Balmoral estate, East Scotland.
We had no signal and it was a mental health treat, to soak up the wild surroundings, visit a bothy, see lots of red deer and wander around the wild shores of Loch Muick. We visited Queen Victoria's estate called Glas-Allt-Shiel, it was somewhere for her to escape after the death of Prince Albert.
We highly recommend this 8 mile hike around the Loch. The majority is a good path with views to die for from every angle. You have towering mountains, some of which are Munros, herds of red deer and stags, lots of soaring birds overhead and miles of captivating landscape images if you're into photography.
Exploring the wilder side of the UK is such a treat, it nearly always surprises us just how beautiful our island is.
We parked at Glen Muick where there is a visitor centre, public toilets and ample parking space.

We find ourselves naturally drawn to the west highlands but the Cairngorms reminds us, every visit, just how uniquely wild it is! It’s outstanding 😍
@Professionalmoochers Absolutely Alan, I am always drawn to the remoteness of Scotland. There is something chilling about being alone in the wild, the Monroes and mountains just make you feel good to be alive.
There’s no better feeling, knowing you’re miles from anyone else and, allowed to be 👌🏼

I’m sure that’s the chippy in Ballater. If it is we have stayed in the cottage directly opposite with the large wooden gates twice. Lovely area. Loch Muick is stunning, done that walk many times. Went into the bothy at Queen Victoria’s place there also. We did also get pulled for our pronunciation of loch Muick, the way you say it it’s Lock Mick!
That’s the one! I remember the gates.
Yeh I’m an expert in saying loch muick now, as I’ve been corrected enough 😄
We’ll definitely be returning here, hopefully stay the night in the bothy.

Very poignant timing for us watching this vlog, we know Loch Muick well, fabulous place. First did the walk around the loch 8 years ago with a very special friend who died suddenly last year, far too young. We are returning this week to retrace our walk, happy, sad memories.

Okay, you've sold it to us. Definitely decided we'll be heading up there next year. That music at the beginning was so dramatic, Ruth was hoping Daniel Craig was going to emerge out of the loch in his speedos! Great footage BTW.

WAW, its looks amazing round there. I have relatives that live in Braemar and they are always saying how beautiful the area is were they live. Great vlog, beautiful scenery, great filming and stunning shot of the stag. Visited Cairngorms years ago so will have to revisit in the van. PS: Fruit and Nut for me and Cadburys Caramel for Mark. You could do a weekly poll for some random food stuffs and then eat/drink the winners on a rainy day in the van 😂🚐😍

It’s a must see area in the van, there’s also a riverside campsite in the village near the chippy so you don’t have to rough it 👍🏼

That's where we are staying, it looks nice around there , I think we saw that you had stayed there, so thought we would give it a try.
It’s a great farm site, with highland cows, good pubs a very short walk away and great access to the trail.
Don’t forget the on-site farm shop 👌🏼
Wow - amazing place. We'll be coming from the north of that area next month, so may have to detour down that way and check it out. Looks like a good place to stop and walk for a while even of we can't stay the night. Look forward to the next installment - have a great week.

Spira’s were tremendous. I worked with Cadbury a few years ago and asked them why they never brought it back. They told me they no longer had the machinery to do it.😢 Great video guys….. Jacque is such a lovely dog 🐶

The drone is a DJI mini 3 pro but, we used to use the DJI mini 1 in the early days.
We have a couple of options for smaller occasional use but mainly use a Sony A6600 👍🏼
Dark choc definitely offers improved brain blood flow, milk choc is oks.
Dark chocolate is a good shout!
