The thing I love about you is how you can break down each movements in detailed steps, making it easier for novices to understand and starts from zero.
Idk why but when I first started training with this chain whip, I had no fear of getting hit. I picked up the basics very easily and am now progressing with these videos.
the biggest drawback with this weapon is that you are locked into your movements. once committed you are set in your course for a full 1-3 seconds. this can be best demonstrated by getting a friend to throw tennis balls at you and seeing how many you can deflect. A fantastic intimidation weapon and i love it
Glad you had an alternative to practice with for beginners if they're afraid to get hit with the actually chain then they can start with the real thing & not be as intimidated thanks Jake.
Do you know Walter aka Aaron Morris. I tried practicing at his house in Scottsdale a little bit back in high school with different weapons including the chain whip.
Impressive skills ...I don't know if this is the most deadly . Beatrix Kiddo did take out Gogo Yubari with her chain whip w a meteor ball in Kill Bill .
out of all that year's training and over boredom. I've already obtained abilities far greater then what I'm learning at the moment. but I like a good challenge. and pain is my way of success.
I remember doing a demo with the chain whip once , my friend messed up the ending and gave herself a big black eye, lucky to come away with that with the weight on the end
Hey Jake. I randomly came across your channel while searching around for gardening videos. I have a rotator cuff tear from an old weightlifting injury, that has put me out of commission in terms of working out, for years. I had been using the stretchy bands to strengthen my rotator cuff muscles, but it was not working. When I saw one of your old chain whip videos, I thought that it would be a good way to strengthen those muscles without inflaming the injury. I was right! My shoulder pain is now gone, and I am even lifting again, cautiously. I learned all of the moves from your vids, and then bought some Chinese DVDs to learn more moves (thanks for the eye protection/mouthguard advice it has saved my ass on a number of occasions). I've now become tolerably good at the weapon. She's a cruel mistress, especially at first. You either learn to do it right, or you experience a buttload of pain. But once you get it, it's fun being safe inside the eye of the storm while a steel Tasmanian devil spins all around you. I really just wanted to thank you. Your videos have actually changed my life.
Great post Randy. I love your comment about being safe in the eye of the storm. And yes, she is a cruel mistress. Glad you are getting healthier! Keep it up!
Neat video! Could you do a demonstration of the chain whip in combat with another person in protective gear? I've seen awesome demonstrations like yours, but they're always solo. I've wondered what a chain whip looks like in combat with an assailant!
Equally deadly for the one holding it! Thanks for the good tips, still a bit leery of that bad boy... got the same one. Don't forget those dangly links don't just make noise, they rip flesh quite effectively!
I'm pretty used to this kind of weapon because I always carry a very heavy blanket to protect myself, I can throw it, I can grab someone with it and I can use it to charge at someone. If you spin it really fast while running your speed will increase
well theres a number of things wrong with this: 1) when you do the butt jump, keep the chain whip on the floor instead of going up and down per jump 2) your other arm is flailing stop 3) your entire body bobs back and forth while moving the whip stop 4) your rhythm in the movements have no slows or speed ups 5) when you underarm change, use your other hand to swing the chain back to its original position just some feedback
Great stuff. I know I would hit my head more than the opponents. It's tough to do something like that. I can make the practice one. Looks simple enough. There is is one thing I wish I could see a demo on. The use of the rings on the arms. Those are really neat.
DEADLIEST Weapon in Martial Arts - CHAIN WHIP. In Kung Fu, the Chain Whip (also called the 9 Section Steel Whip) is one of the most challenging weapons to master. The chain whip is a giant steel bullet on the end of a long heavy chain. The Martial Artist attacks with the chain whip by smacking, shooting, capturing, cutting, and/or crushing his/her opponent. Before we learn to shoot the chain whip we must first learn to spin the chain whip. The Nine Section Steel Whip of Chinese Kung Fu is my favorite weapon (the spear is my 2nd favorite weapon). Here is how I practice the spins of the Kung Fu Chain Whip! Enjoy and COMMENT BELOW.......... Oke just asking you say the deadlyest weapon in marshellarts but I have never seen how much damages such a whip would do to meat. sow I kind of really would love to see what this would do to ballistic jelly or maby to a piece of beef. Could you do that for once?
I keep having trouble shifting the whip to the other side of my body during an under the arm transition. I can do it fine when it’s over the arm and I turn it to my right side but the other way around has me a bit stumped. probably cause I’m expecting the whip to wrap around more than it should? Or is it that I’m trying to excel to quickly? Great video btw you definitely are very skilled and a great teacher I’m just watching from a small phone screen and slowing the video down does help my case much haha
Funny thing is that i use two chains to become like kai or kratos and its probably the most chaotic weapon i have ever wielded because your using long chains that can whip you at any second thus you must control the momentum to wield it
Is a legitimate chain whip like that a bad idea for a careful beginner? Same goes for a lightweight small monkey fist rope dart (keep wanting to type lawn dart) ??? A lot of what I've seen in your and similar videos- wing chun demonstrations and most recently and very especially Wushu chain whip and rope darts seem like great meditative outlets. Also interested in more street savvy Kusari-fundo but with say a bracelet or some wearable that can be used for self defense. I'm in new york and am interested in finding some community perhaps. Just wanted to say I appreciate the arts and appreciate the videos.
Hi Sifu! do you have any idea when your online store might get more chain whips in stock? If not, do you have suggestions where to buy a good and affordable one that will ship to California?
These videos are excellent. I was wondering if there are any shorter chain whips, like 7 links? I'm on the short side, and it hits the ground all the time. Or maybe one with shorter links? Thanks for the great work
I can 100% promise you that getting stabbed is deadlier than this. This looks more like a circus act than martial arts. I expect better from you, Jake.

Do not take this guy seriously. This is obviously not the deadliest weapon in martial arts. This man is a lunatic who tries to teach you crappy technique. He is also making stuff up about Tai Chi.
we'll, if I didn`t know anything about kung fu I would say The same thing, but he really know about kung fu. My old master had the same chains and knows how to make The same moviments (even jump with The butt). using that chains can look easy and crappy, but when you have to opportunity to use it you see that it`s hard as hell.
It is a proven fact that he makes stuff up about Tai Chi. And if you only think in 'Kung Fu' ways, than you'll never understand the fact that his technique is absolute crap.
Jake Mace is awesome. I`ve been watching his stuff for a while, typically with either his Tai Chi Chuan (Chinese Boxing) or his use of traditional Chinese weaponry. Confessedly, of all the Chinese weapons, I prefer the spear and the three-section staff. His videos on this chain whip and the three-section staff are wonderful: he`s obiously skilled, charismatic, down-to-earth, relaxed, dedicated and super-positive. Watch Jake Mace. He entails the true optimistic and peaceful nature of K`ung Fu.
If you are ever rooted, it means to change, to move, you must pick up your root. That requires two moments. Imagine if you were in a gun fight and you point your gun away from the opponent. Would that not be a huge disadvantage? It’s obvious once you begin to understand this point that each and every split second must contain all of your gung fu. The split second. That rabbit hole will change everything you know about talu and movement.

Dude your awesome.....
Would love to see some sparring with both guys in full steel armour. Itd be interesting to see how it works vs resisting opponent.
Thanks for the effort putting videos online, specially for the chain whip, you show some tricks i'm not used to and it motivates me to work harder ;)
This weapon is awesome , and you are awesome at using it, but I prefer my bo staff.
The practice whip is a great idea to get the movement down. Need a lot of co-ordination with this thing.
Exelente ejecución, muchas gracias por compartir
where Did You Get Your Chain Whip From
The chain whip is epic nice moves jake pretty great and fluid movement
I have ordered some kubaton chains from China, they`re titanium great video, respect from England.
Crazy video Jake! You are the best!

Very good weapon Jake.
Very impressive indeed. Thank you for the demonstration.

Loved your collaboration with master ken
You remind me a lot of my bike coach for some reason. Something about how you take it seriously like you should, but still seem to have a good time.
Excellent vedio..

is the chain whip kinda like the numchuck, because I'm really good with nunchucks
this video is really impressive!!!
How long should a chain whip be?
This guy could be an awesome anime character
hey jake you are the next jakie chan and bruce lee. i like your videos.
Dude that's sick
This weapon will seem very effective with boxing as you could go switch attacking from long and short range
hey jake....thanks so much......how much did a cost your clas in united stade
When you watch to much anime

That is an intimidating weapon, Jake.
jake hello im mike listen do u have any videos of setting up a dble plank for iron fist training .. and i also cant use it for many training exercises
well theres a number of things wrong with this:
1) when you do the butt jump, keep the chain whip on the floor instead of going up and down per jump
2) your other arm is flailing stop
3) your entire body bobs back and forth while moving the whip stop
4) your rhythm in the movements have no slows or speed ups

just some feedback
How is it used in combat? Do you have a video demostrating the chain whip vs the sword, or nunchuck etc?
you know when to listen to this guy when he literally has mace in his name
Wow - that is spectacular work. After watching some of your tutorials, I've got to say that you are an incredible teacher!
nice vid! and good idea with the tennis ball lol. very good😁
Oh! You also mentioned lighter chain whips people use competitively.. what is the difference?

I like that, bro make it kyoketshu shoge (ninja assassin movie weapon) next time. Its even deadliest and will give you more flexibility.

I don't know why this is very useful

Hey Jake just curious on if you can do any kind of handsprings or flips since you're so skilled with just about everything else.
