My Dad built them for our kids and wants to build more to maybe sell. I'm going to wire up the second one over the weekend.
I'll probably end up going LiPo and maybe put a large brushless outrunner in our one. I'll take some shots closer up of the boats and post when I'm working on them :)

Love these little boats. Sorry for asking this and I'll understand if you want to keep it all a trade secret, but I'm wanting to build one of these mini boats for my grand daughter and was wondering where do you get the motors from and what type as in size, voltage, etc you use. I noticed that your boats are wired/controlled via what looks like a normal fwd/rev boat throttle, where do you obtain these from too or what do you use to create such a throttle. With your help, I'd also like to build a mini boat for myself so I can cruise with my little princess using the same setup.

Gday charlie. This one is using what would be called a 'scooter motor and controller' on Ebay. This one is 500W. The other video on my channel is 2000W. The forward/reverse throttle was fabricated by my Dad and wired by me and required some clever electrical voodoo. There's a bit of interest in this setup so we are thinking of making a plug and play unit that you simply just fit to the boat. Motor, electrics, shaft, prop, rudder all in one unit.
There's not a lot on there yet but please visit my Dad's facebook "Artisan Boat Building" or website www.artisanboatbuilding.com/

Thanks Peter, appreciate it. I'm certainly interested in a plug and play controller if it becomes available as at the moment that would be the hardest part for me to work out.

We're working on another boat now with a few ideas to simplify electronics etc. I'll give you a heads up when there's some more videos/info coming. :)

Thanks, every bit of info is very helpful. The boats your Dad makes, is there any plans available to buy or does he build them out of his head?

He has templates and is working on getting the templates into plan form. Sit tight I'm editing videos to upload right now. One will be on in about 5 minutes and the other which is a detailed description of the workings will be on tomorrow morning.

how did you get the prop shaft through the boat with no leaks?

      Hi Ian,
I fibreglassed a stainless steel tube through the hull, with bearings and seals pressed into it. The 12 mm shaft rotates in the bearings. The shaft has two circlips on it so that the thrust from the prop is transferred to the hull through the bearings. I hope this helps.

Smooth stainless steel prop shaft with rubber seals. Works very well.
