    Interesting answer to this question. I remember the episode when Destiny found one of the Seed Ships sent out ahead of it. But even one Seed ship destroyed near the end of second season leaves me with one question; Are there more Seed ships still out there ahead of Destiny, and if so, were more found by other species not encountered before.

      There would no doubt be many seed ships, maybe more than a hundred of them. Destiny caught up then overtook one seed ship but the planets they passed still had stargates. That means there is at least one seed ship still ahead of them. Seed ships would have been sent out in other directions as well, not to mention more seed ships carrying the upgraded Stargates such as the ones in the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies.

    My guess is that seed ships were launched at least 5000 years ahead of Destiny. Seems that they needed time to gather information as they went on and built stargates, determine the path for Destiny and least but not last, identify the "pieces of the puzzle" that Destiny needed to investigate.

    as to gate hierarchy oldest gate always seems to default to primary when more then one gate is at an address point. so that solves how you make sure only the gate you want gets activated. we know this from the early SG-1 eps where Russians where running there own program using the Antarctica gate which was the original Earth Gate. since as long as it was powered it would become primary. its VERY likely Destiny's gate the VERY first gate and would take primary over any other gate in the same space as it.

    The ancients built multiple of everything they made. Of course they would build multiple Destiny class ships to explore the universe.
    I wouldn't doubt that the ancients would probably make some kind of automated ship building facility. The destiny had that repair robot. And the ancients really don't seem like the manual labor type of people.

      @peoplez129 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think Destiny was meant to be soo robust, that all you needed was one. For the ancients of the time it was built, it was still a huge undertaking. And Destiny is about 50 million years old, so it lasted. It was still a shot in the dark, and none of the people who built it ever expected to see the fruits of their labor. They didn't even expect answers in millions of years even, so for all they knew their civilization could have gone extinct in that time, THAT'S how big of an undertaking and shot in the dark that it was. They built the ship to last, and on a trajectory. Anything that could have naturally destroyed 1 Destiny class ship, could have destroyed a second one as well, so building 2 would be kind of like sending two ships to their potential doom, meaning you really wouldn't have much to gain by sending more than one. They always had the seeded stargates as backup. If need be, they could travel the gate network with a program, travelling from stargate to stargate to reach the distance they wanted, and even rebuild another one along the same flight path at its last known location. Technically, you'd only need to dial two stargates per galaxy, with a power boost needed to dial between galaxies. So you dial into one galaxy, dial into the other edge of that galaxy, then dial into the next galaxy. Actually a fairly short trip overall. Or with enough power, you could just literally dial one gate in each galaxy. So if you had the proper gate addresses, you could literally travel from earth to Destiny and back by just stargates and a single ZPM, in a few hours.

  • @johnassal5838
    @johnassal5838 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's an interesting idea I haven't seen elsewhere. It stands to reason that a seedship may only have one completely operational gate aboard at any one time. With only one gate "fitting" in a star system with a bit of time to the next system there would be no need to have several completed gates at one time. If the subspace network and regular addressing is handled by the base the gate fits into and if that base isn't fitted until the hour the gate is left on a world then seedship gates would never show up in regular list though the ancients may have built in a way to direct dial particular seed ships for maintenance for instance. But bear in mind that even leaving only 2,000 years ahead of Destiny those seedships could be millions of lightyears ahead of Destiny depending how fast they are all moving.

  • @TomatoFettuccini
    @TomatoFettuccini 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    9:15 or the gates could just be inactive until activated by installing them in their base on their planet. It sounds like a complication until you realize that it's an extremely obvious issue, so therefore it's already been dealt with.

    • @proclarushtaonasat
      @proclarushtaonasat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      true, the base/ramp also provides power to the gates, and we know, that stargates hooked up to a power source get priority, which is why the alpha gate at sgc got priority over the arctic gate for so long, since the dhd was low on power and frozen (presumably). so sgu-gates on ramps get priority over loose gates.

    well done video.
    my personal theory has been that there’s several gate dialing protocols, and that we’ve really only scratched the surface of how they can be used/work.
    but along with a dialing address being able to be auto defined by its special location that the ancients likely also made a method of hard coded dialing for at least a subset of the gates allowing for gates on moving ships like Destiny.
    who knows all gates may even have a hard coded address and an dynamically assigned address (similar to MAC and IP addresses) with a block of “reserved” addresses for for gates that should be reachable by a static address regardless of their location. (again, a rough similarity to DHCP)
    in theory this would also allow an area with more than one gate to have a primary gate for the location address but still each gate individually reachable.

      Two reasons.
      1) Destiny era gates are what I class to be version 1.5, they are scientific versions for the primary purpose of data gathering and storage until Destiny can come and receive the data. We never see version 1 of the gates, but it is safe to assume based upon the original design document of the Stargate system that it was simply not meant to exist. Basically the Destiny gates that were seeded were never meant to transport anyone.
      2) DHD's were from what I can tell an upgrade. They were built after the Stargate's in the Milky way. They were a different material and the gates themselves were fully functional without them. What the DHD provides is a computer which is upgradable and my best guess is that they also function as a sort of virus filter. In other words, they built because of the plague.
      On another note, the machinery that built the Milky way DHD's also built a bunch of the Goa'uld technology along with the "place of our legacy" for the Ancients. Most likely the Goa'uld ended up with what amounts to a seed ship for the Milky way. Its a shame we never see that one.

    They were able to dial destiny from the milky way while it was in ftl the ship caught the signal and dropped out of ftl to allow the connection so theoretically you could do the same thing with a seed ship from destiny if it had enough power to dial that far. Also theoretically destiny would have in its data base the addresses for every seed ship to be dialed if for some reason the ancients need to get to one.

  • @BoingoInsanity
    @BoingoInsanity 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    All of the gates on the seed ships are in various states of manufacture, and probably only the gate at the front of the line is fully completed, as the line needs to move forward as the gates are seeded to make room to continue the manufacture process. That said, any fully functional gate can be dialed from anywhere if you are able to calculate the location, and with a subspace link and adequate distance from the gate and within range should be fair game. I say this because gates have been moved and/or added to mobile ships and work but have a different address every time they stop. A great example is destiny dialing itself only needing to add a x factor distance calculation when considering the gate address. One last thing, no seed ships would show as gateable addresses as they had a 2000 year head start and are out of range, the seed ship destiny docked with malfunctioned and was not able to continue its journey, thereby allowing destiny to catch up...

  • @RikkiCattermole
    @RikkiCattermole 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I disagree that a seed ship could be dialed.
    To prevent any accidental dialing to a seed ship production line Stargate you would need to prevent the ability for wormholes to form throughout the ship itself. There would need to be some sort of diffusion field placed around it to ensure any wormholes going towards it will redirect around the ship and go to another gate close by.
    As long as a Stargate is fully formed, it could receive a wormhole directed towards it. Regardless of it having power or even being initialized. If it wasn't initialized it would probably destabilized and nothing rematerialize out the other end since that does require the gate to be initialized.
    Now with regards to being around a planet, that was a "safety" feature added to make the dialing process easier in as far as I know, every other version of the gate. Why Destiny era gates didn't have it, idk. There are many potential reasons. From being built with "cheap" materials like iron to it requiring a person to come up with the set of symbols and then map them manually. There is also the safety element to it, to limit spread of unknown entities across large amount of space.

    • @RikkiCattermole
      @RikkiCattermole 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamiemease2220 Yes a DHD does give preference over another and it does take into account the version of the DHD in question. But that does not guarantee that a wormhole will go to that gate over another especially when something goes wrong. See the episode where the Antarctic gate was found.
      The gate which had a DHD but it was unpowered had a wormhole jumped to it over a gate which the wormhole had _already_ been successfully connected to _during_ the connection. This is why you don't want a Stargate to be dialed on a seed ship.

    We've seen dial in a "deactivated" gates when SG1 dialed into them BUT I doubt you could dial out from it as seen in the season 9 episode Off The Grid
    Bu the thing that convinces me more that you can't dial into a seed ship is the fact that when they're on the seed ship assembly line, they're packed to close together, activate one and the kawoosh will hit another one, maybe two.
    If these gates are made from naquadah like the ones in the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies are, they'll probably blow up with an equivalent blast of a nuclear bomb of some yield
    Of course, this is just my opinion

      It is unlikely that the gates are made out of Naquadah, a very heavy element. Based upon how they get damaged (and not destroy the planet) along with their color, I think its safe to assume its something more common like iron.

    • @dragonweyr44
      @dragonweyr44 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RikkiCattermole I don't think they can be made from iron
      The gates are made from naguadah since they are a naturally occurring room temperature super conductor that amplifies the power of any energy it comes into contact with to an unknown degree
      In the 1994 movie, Ra was going to send O'Niell's nuke back to Earth with a small amount of naquadah which he said would magnify it's destructive capability 10 times
      Naquadah can absorb energy from any source including electricity or lightning, cold fusion and even solar energy
      It is also found on many planets in the Milky Way (but not Earth) so it MUST be found ll over the universe as well
      Iron couldn't work in a stargate

      @@dragonweyr44 I think you have forgotten Orlin's Stargate that was built in Carter's basement. Which had no Naquadah in it at all. It was built using Titanium instead using only things found around her home.
      We don't know what material the Tollan's Stargate was made from. But given the size and color, its safe to assume that one isn't Naquadah either. My guess is Trinium since they used that heavily in their technology. Which is the right color and probably can be applied in place of Naquadah in almost every use case that the Tollan's had. However I believe it was more rare than Naquadah.
      I suggest iron is what the Destiny era Stargate's are made out of because of its abundance and the fact that it is a conductor. Along with the color matching up ok-ish. But that may not be the element just a good guess and there may be other elements that handle the actual dialing process.
      Finally you don't need the entirety of the Stargate to be made out of a conductor. In most gates it functions as a capacitor for energy being feed in, but the ones in Destiny era they were very unlikely to ever be dialed let alone long distance. The further the distance the more power you need to feed into a gate to open the wormhole.

      @@RikkiCattermole I don't know if another materia; could be used to make a stable and reusable gate other than naquadah, whatever the Tollans used, it MUST have had similar qualities to naquadah but Orlin's gate WAS a one use only gate so titanium wasn't a viable option for a reusable gate (frankly, I think it was a plot convenience thing)

      @@dragonweyr44 I doubt Orlin made it very well. He was under heavy time constraints and only barely managed to finish it in time. It only needed to work once and then that was it. I doubt it even took him directly to the planet he wanted. Probably connected to another planet's gate.
      Given time and proper equipment it probably can be done fairly easily. Although it may not have the same properties as a normal Milky way gate that we are used to like using the outside of a ring to charge it.
