- Team Luminscent just released the de-chibified mod, which replaces every chibi character in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl with fully 3d character models. It's a revolutionary rom hack that drives the modding scene forward, it's also built ontop of the legendary luminescent platinum mod.

Funny how with only the characters scaled down, the game also looks bigger and thus a bit more realistic, so there's a bonus boon to this "un-chibification". Furnitures indoors look a bit too big though in comparison, so maybe they should scale up characters at tad for the best middle ground?
@@Narlaw1199 I’m going to get the rest of the characters that I want done and then I’ll probably tweak the scaling. It’s all based off a single rig, so it’s easiest to build everything first and go through the fine tuning at the end.

This hurts to watch. Fans will do this for free, yet the Pokemon company gets paid endless amounts of money for.... bottom of the barrel effort and bottom of the barrel ideas. Wrapped up in a horribly executed bow. It's just sad man.
My most used device of 2024 was my modded 2DS XL, which allows me to play Generations 1 through 7. Every game looks great because the system is modded fixing the scaling and gamma issues. I also can play ROM hacks that fix all older generation issues.
The problem is that fans aren't working on a schedule. TPC have to spit out games every year because of the franchise's business model.

Thats because Game Freak has dead lines, they can't just upload a trailer for a game and say it'll come out soon ™️

Oh this is awesome! I’m just blown away that they have a guide that lets you use not only all of the protagonists, but also their alt outfits from masters. Absolutely fantastic work they are doing here.
If there was a mod that would fix the Super Contests and add an actual acting competition, that would be PEAK, but I doubt someone would do something like this
Weird That The Biggest Issue Of BDSP Was A Visual Thing
For some it wasn't the biggest issue, but for people like me it was a deal breaker. I loved the chibi style 19 years ago when it was pretty much used due to hardware limitations but for BDSP I really wanted something more. A mod like this makes the game way more appealing to me, but I know for some it won't be a huge deal.
@@admnPB For kids maybe it won't be a big deal, for me is a deal breaker the chibis, i like this mod, it fixes the biggest issue of the game.
It was a huge deal breaker for me. I didn't buy it. Probably the only pokemon game I immediately dismiss after the trailer went live.

The artstyle was also my main point why I did not play these games; the other reason is that its worse than Pokemon Platinum. So yeah, I can just play the original game instead.
I hacked my Switch recently, and I can't wait to play this mod + Re: Illuminated Platinum when they're ready. I can't believe that the modders actually make me excited to play BDSP

If only modders spent as much time fixing Scarlet/Violet
the pb is that scarlet and violet are very difficult to mod bc of there engine which they were made from whereas bdsp is way easier because it uses a engine thats been used in a bunch of other games and its easy to work on
This mod and the platinum one you mentioned is really making consider saving up for a lite and laptop to play it. They're absolutely phenomenal!!!
If your phone has a snapdragon cpu, u should be able to play this on your phone

only thing that is bothering a bit right now about this mod is, whenever you talk to a NPC, they briefly start running in place before talking and that the old man's model has been replaced by Pryce the Ice Gym Leader from Johto....
i do hope they can fix these two things someday, it looks promising :)
I think it's an issue with the speed up. It's a bug that occasionally happens in Lumi
There’s a two portion problem to this:
1. NPC Characters have a walk OR a run animation, so I can’t have both available as far as I’ve been able to figure out.
2. The 60fps mod that is incorporated into Lumi 2.1f (which is what I built it on) makes pretty much any walking animation look really bad if the character moves around in the over world. I chose to make them do the running animation since it honestly looks way better on a generic level. Later on when I finish adding all the models I want to, I may check and see if I can get a list of models that look better running vs walking and swap them as needed.
@adomin8er is there a way to freeze their run/walk animation and simply have them turn to look towards you?
@@forgotten893 There are really 2 parts to modding BDSP from what I’ve experienced. The first is asset replacement and the second is changing game code. Between the two, I only know how to do asset replacement, and even that I’m not super great at.
For updating the turn/run animation, I’m sure that there’s probably a way to do it, but it would require updating game code as all I did was point the animations to their respective blender animations that I used. (E.g. the walk animation points to my blender run animation.) There’s no pre-defined slot for turn animation, so if I freeze the running then it will also freeze all their running/movement animations.
The only way for this to get remedied is if I eventually learn more game coding (which I don’t plan on doing at the moment) or if someone who knows more about that line of modding joins to help with it.

@@adomin8er Ah okay that's understandable. Hopefully you get there someday! I thought it was as simple as getting the current rotation and storing it as "original rotation", and then rotating the character with transform.RotateTowards for example. Then after the text box disappears, rotate back to the original rotation before you spoke to the NPC.

I love how fans can create a better and more faithful remake than an actual game studio. I don't know why they thought just directly importing all the original code over would be enough
If they could scale up the characters a tiny bit, or possibly zoom in the camera, this would be perfect. But regardless, this is BEYOND impressive and it makes me so happy to see.
omg!!!! a long time ago i saw someone testing it with pokemon XY style (its chibi but less chibi than bdsp) and thought it's much better that way. but this one is SO good. i cant wait to play it with this mod
This is so much better already, but I think maybe a semi-chibi style would be a lot more appealing with the game graphics. Like, the models used in the Generation 6 era, maybe

I'm so happy that youtube reccomend me this video, some years ago I remember that the modding team making that rom hack showed a de chibified dawn on a short video (I think it was the same that you showed on the video) and then some weeks after that they cancel the project. I'm so happy I've waited to finally play the ultimate version from this game, I really loved the OG Diamon/pearl on the DS, time to re live my kid years.
Even they let us choose our protagonist, that's true art.

Now it just needs a better sized map and props and better ligthing would go a very long way too. Controling the camera a bit would help too. Maybe we can have better camera angles, like in SwSh.

How I envisioned the games going forward in a home console tbh - Coliseum set the standard that gamefreak keeps falling short on.
Who knew they could just switch the models and the game seem completely different
honestly i like the chibi look of the characters. im probably in the minority in that department. but i do admit this looks pretty damn good

If only Game freak design the game that way. Problem is that they left out alot of details out. But they wanted to be faithful to the original diamond and pearl. But putting some of Platinum stuff in it.

While this is a great idea and I'm glad it was finally done by modders, I think it also shows how terribly undercooked even the full-size models in BDSP are compared to the ones in SWSH, PLA and Masters EX. Look at how bad the BDSP Lass model looks compared to everyone else at 1:28
I never liked the chibi 3D models, it made sense with the 2D games but with a 3D remake it really does look soulless
Can u customize your character yourself, like buying clothes and hairstyles?
Gamefreak had just 1 Job, they only had to make an Update where you can decide if the Chibi Models are activated or not... This Game looks so Amazing and if that would be the Standard, i would buyed BDSP for 200$ !!!
You had just 1 job as well, BSDP was developed from ILCA not Gamefreak.

Leave it to fans to make BDSP the game it deserved to be. Remakes aren't one-to-one with barely any added content. They add *MORE* to it. Especially ORAS - that reimagined RS with a truly modern feel, acknowledging the Pokémon and regions that came out after it and developing the lore that the originals lacked.

yes, i believe you can use this on the base bdsp. but it was built for the platinum hack so there might be some issues.

These days I go to Pokemon Clover, Uranium, or Reborn if I’m looking for a fun game because modern day Pokemon is a bit disappointing. Once Pokemon Flux gets updated, I plan on going back to that.
Think my favorite of all-time is Pokemon Insurgence… such an incredible fan made game!
