Exactly. A large portion of JSO's budget is for the enforcement of drug laws, including illegal marijuana. Despite medical marijuana availability, there is still a large illegal marijuana market in Florida because not everyone can afford the costs that come along with a medical marijuana card. If marijuana becomes recreationally legal, then police budgets will lose some funding. It's always about money.
they oppose it bc the bill is complete trash and hands over florida marijuana rights to corporate interests and doesn't allow citizens to grow it for personal use.
Of course the cops are against it! It COMPLETELY removes their ability to drag you out of your car at a traffic stop, because the cop "detects the odor of marijuana" which leads to charges which creates REVENUE for the STATE. That's it and that's all.
Florida is full of seniors with things like arthritis and other painful conditions. Voting pro THC means less money to government to micromanage one more aspect of your lives. I'm from a legal state, this whole conversation sounds like it's in ANOTHER COUNTRY? How do you keep it away from kids, advertise it, regulate it? THE SAME WAY YOU DO WITH ALCOHOL TOBACCO AND FIREARMS? PLUS MORE TAX REVENUE? I'm not joking either it's like a different country from state. I thought we had freedoms here 🇺🇲 Typical republican run state!👎🏻
Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. No exceptions. It's so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?
Legalize cannabis federally now. What's legal to possess and consume in over half of the populated areas of The United States should not make you a criminal in states still being governed by woefully ignorant prohibitionist politicians. Cannabis consumers deserve and demand equal rights and protections under our laws that are currently afforded to the drinkers of far more harmful, dangerous and deadly, yet perfectly legal, widely accepted, endlessly advertised and even glorified as an All American pastime, alcohol. Plain and simple!
Kids can already get it? How many years do you get for selling ALCOHOL to minors? Oh none LOL typical Republican run state? How do you advertise it, keep it away from children🙄 THE SAME WAY YOU KEEP YOUR ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS AWAY FROM KIDS????????

Stop lying and spreading misinformation because marijuana is not legal for responsible people in Florida. You're not smart enough to know there are plenty of responsible people that don't have medical issues that can't smoke weed meaning that's not legal for responsible people
Okay smoke your cigarettes at home and drink your beer at home get rid of all bars. More people are killed by alcohol than they are weed but you're bitching about weed more than you are about alcohol. You're part of the problem

Yes, because we all know the #1 cause of homelessness is marijuana use 🙄. I've never met a single homeless person begging for money to get their next joint. I have, on the other hand, met plenty of homeless people begging for money for their next beer or pack of cigarettes. There is no causal connection between the legalization of marijuana and homelessness. That is because legal marijuana has literally nothing at all to do with homelessness. Approximately 80% of the people I know smoke pot, and every single one of them works, have homes, are financially stable, and have never been anywhere close to being homeless. Most of them have college degrees. Please provide even one scholarly article connecting marijuana legalization in CA and the homeless problem in CA.

Waters is a lying traitor to the United States of america. So legalizing marijuana is going to make crime go up how exactly. What it should do is make crime go down because now gso can't arrest people strictly for marijuana and now people will be able to go to pot shops in buy weed instead of weed off the black market which means Gaines will have less money to commit crimes. Waters is a moron and you're right there with him because both of you have no critical thinking skills and have no clue what you're talking about. I have to agree with the sheriff about impaired driving under the influence. people can't drive as it is, driving drunk, stoned, and distracted, could be a problem
Of course driving on the influence of weed isn't a good idea, just like driving drunk isn't a good idea either. But with that said, even with pot being illegal what's stopping a person from buying pot from drug dealer and then smoking a joint on their way home?
Personally, I'm all for recreational marijuana being legalized because legalizing it has the potential for bringing in a ton of tax revenue to the state and I'm for any measure that keeps Florida a state where there's no state income tax. Now with that said, I am aware of the potential dangers of it being legalized, like people driving stoned or kids getting a hold of it as there are going to be people out there that won't use pot responsibly. But to be fair, I don't see how smoking a joint, or eating an edible, after a tough day at work is any worse than drinking a beer after a stressful day of work.
Police oppose legalizing weed because it’s a good source of revenue locking people up.
Not anymore.
