@@Faynwulf "they admit openly the games are fantasy with loose historical inspiration, so thats fine, its fun." "no worries man, im just ranting to rant." Really?
Odin is often in the stories told as an old man with a cloak over his head but is not to cowardly to fight. Odin is also portrayed as bloodthirsty so it would not be out of his way to fight a battle. The raven flying over the battle supports that, due to Odin having two raven to help me scout the world for infomation
Yeah but I can see people hoping it to be Ezio (or an assassin). In the lore of the game, it wouldn't be surprising to equate gods with the inheritance of the "hidden ones". They're supposed to have this "mystical" reputation of seeing all and punishing men and all. Maybe it's just Odin for the trailer, maybe it's something more "animus" related and that could be cool to tie the game with the others. We know for example that Kassandra became basically immortal, soooo, at this point, we could expect anything.
@@MARYWTHER interestingly enough, in Odyssey, they have the eagle bearer, which is a kind of signal of Zeus. In the same way, maybe you'll have a raven as your scout in this game, as a signal to Odin.
I was debating on either if it was William or Alfred but William had not come to fruition on the end of the Viking age and this looks like it's still going strong looking more further details It is Alfred the Great and would likely be the battle of Edington
If you paused when the king puts his seal on the letter, you can read his name. Aelfred Rex - King Alfred. He's using the spelling in Old English with the AE, but it's confirmed to be Alfred the Great, and the game starts in 873.
It is defiantly not William! The Viking threat had all but diminished by the time of Edward the Confessor. Indeed, after the rule of Cnut and Harthacnut, the throne was back into Anglo Saxon hands. This is Alfred in the time of the Danelaw, which eventually would come to a horrible end in the wake of the Battle of Malden and Ethelred the "Unready" giving up, and his wife Emma of Normandy running off with his enemy.
The trailer is, again, made by Digic Pictures (not by Ubisoft itself). Probably the best in the business, a CGI studio based in Hungary (my country). Yeah, I'm really proud of them.
Odin and the other Norse gods were always described as being part of the "daily life", and would often walk among the humans. So it's probably Odin we see at the tree and his ravens Hugin and Munin. But the gods don't need to be "resurrected", they can travel from the different worlds as they want to. Asgård/Asgard = Home of the gods. Midgård/Midgard = Home of the humans. (There are also many other worlds)
I’m glad my Norse knowledge finally comes into play hehe. Jotunheim, Alfheim, Niflheim, etc. Norse lore is full of such wonder and intrigue, I love the stories.
@@iPyroNigma Yep. The earlier games I play because of history and I am interested in history. The newer games has practically taken too much freedom for them to be historically realistic. The Last Kingdom is an incredible series found on Netflix about this time period. “Odin is with us!” Comes from the fact that Odin had two crows. Hugin and Munin. Meaning thought and memory in norse. They would fly across middle earth and Asgard collecting information for him making him all seeing. If they are not out they both rest on his shoulders.
The raven Hugin symbolize thought and munin symbolize memory and he is also attended by 2 wolfs geri and Freki so it would be cool if we get odin wolfs but dont thank thats going to happen
He has 2 ravens. Hugin and Munin. They represent odin and their names are literally called thought and memory in old norse. He tought them to speak and were often seen as odins messengers. I hope we get some more info on this more but it's great to see something I've grown up with coming to AC. love norse mythology and at the moment God of War is surprisingly accurate.
In Norse mythology, Huginn (from Old Norse "thought") and Muninn (Old Norse "memory"or "mind") are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world, Midgard, and bring information to the god Odin.
Black flag was really my hard Introduction to the series. And it’s my favorite one. Mostly because I love pirate history and everything about it, that game was amazing
Narrator: they murder and kill blindly Ubisoft: *shows Vikings having mercy with a women and two children* Narrator: wtf Ubisoft do you even listen to what I say
@ That all may historically be true, but it's still obvious from the set up of the trailer that he's going to be a villain, even if he's not a "real" templar
Odin used to wander around wearing a wide brimmed hat. Imagine something like Gandalf. Tolkien actually used a painting of Odin as his model for the looks of Gandalf. A wise old wanderer wearing a wide brimmed hat.
I love the fact that they put the hidden blade on top. Especially when Vikings themselves were not ones to hide from combat. So the blade on top not hidden underneath shows the nature of a fighting Viking. And that little touch is amazing.
I like how when that knight got hit in the chest with the axe nothing happened, the armor absorbed the hit just like its supposed to instead of seeming like its made of paper.
I imagine it might be similar to 3 and Black Flag in that there will be smaller cities and villages. If anything we’ll get some walled cities in England.
7:43 a cool little detail you might of missed the. When he died he had his axe in his hand. the vikings believed if they died in battle with their weapon in their hand Odin would grant them entry to Valhalla.
the burning on the Longship is actually quite expensive its only reserve to those of the Elite and Royal blood so not everyone gets to do the oh so awesome of going to Viking Heaven Valhalla in style
@@Novozymandiaz They burned coins, valuables, weapons, food, dead animals and sometimes (dead) slaves on the ship with the dead chief so it's pretty likely that they thought these things would accompany their chief to Valhall. Kinda a way to swag off how rich you were and how much you accomplished to the others in Valhall.
That's kinda the point. In the assassins creed universe, the history books are lies and don't tell the whole truth. Like obviously in the history books, Rodrigo Borgia wasn't a templar who was murdered by his son and sought world domination. I think the Templars would probably want to leave that part out. The things you see in assassins creed is how history actually played out in this universe and the true events wasn't recorded in history Which is impressive. If in your story you go with the fact that recorded history is a lie it gives you the freedom to make up what you want.

I bet the skill system will be based on how much you accept the Assassins. The more you go do the stealth tree the less you’ll look like a Viking this might even be a narrative aspect too. Kinda a “you’ve changed man.”
Timothy Batbatan I’ve heard that it’s going to be similar to the black flag story. You start out as a normal Viking then shit happens, you discover the brotherhood and learn more about them etc etc...
Technically speaking assassination is defined as the killing of someone by sudden OR secret attack for political or religious reasons. So of the Viking wanted to March down the street, kick Alfred's door in and chop him apart it's still an assassination as it's happening suddenly.
we never were actually that much of an assassin, apart from Altair i guess. In Brotherhood trailer Ezio just walks up to the pope and his son in the middle of rome. He even draws his sword and engage in direct combat with them and their elite guard. Worst assassin ever.(I love Ezio just to make sure people dont misunderstand it)
It seems to be that in these first trailers Ubisoft gets people hooked on the world first. Then as more stuff comes out (gameplay, trailers, etc...) we are introduced to the Assassins

The Ubisoft NA TH-cam channel did a breakdown of the trailer with both the game director and narrative director.
I really feel like this trailer is more suited to a game called "Assassin's Creed: Dark Age Anachronisms", to be honest. You have an elite soldier with scale armor over what appears to be an early gambeson of some kind and leather for some reason who is wearing an Anglo-Saxon helm with Roman crest and trappings who is wielding a later medieval longsword/warsword while fighting for a general that appears to be defending a distinctly medieval style castle and watching from horseback with only leather armor on for some reason (the overuse of leather armor itself is too prevalent) whose other soldiers seem to be wearing appropriate mail armor, but have Norman-style kite shields and all of this under the orders of the famous and revered 9th Century Anglo-Saxon King Ælfred the Great who they are apparently making the villain from the looks of things. And that isn't even touching the Vikings themselves who also have the useless leather armor problem as well as the strange use of furs on the outside, lack of many helms or much mail and who are wielding axes entirely too thick for fighting axes, giant hammers, period-appropriate shields from a glance until you realize they're metal rimmed and have straps instead of historically accurately being wielded by the center grip, and seem to have few if any spears (the most common weapon they should have) and who aren't even attempting shield wall tactics at all. Though it was nice to at least see one period accurate Viking-era sword, I guess.
Its said that Odin wandered the battlefield and if u saw him It was either a sign of good faith that he is with you or he was there to collect the fallen
For analysis, I suggest watching the trailer once full through first. THEN analyzing it. That way you don't have questions and musings where the answer is "watch the entire thing first."
I like Mr Terry, but this seems like his weak area (historically speaking). Which is a shame, because it feeds the stereotype that Americans don't know about much of anything before the 1600's (a stereotype which is unfortunately more true than not)
Agreed. I think it's most likely due to most curriculums only wanting to teach American History (which starts at 1607) or events where America played a role like WW2, Meiji Restoration, Rise and fall of Communism, etc.). I know from my history classes all the topics taught always involved America in some aspect. Though, I try to learn more about other historical periods during my own time.
As an American I was only taught history at the beginning of WW1 and the revolutionary war was the latest we went touched the civil war a little and broke down WW1 to Early 2000s Anything before revolutionary war wasn’t even spoken

Vikings didn’t generally wear more armor than a helmet unless the individual was actually wealthy. The two handed sword was bullshit for this time period, the closest to that at the time would have been a Langseax which basically a long two handed Knife
5:15 first history teacher who doesn't mention that this is king alfred, the other video reactions from people who know viking history in this part of the video say: and this is surely alfred the great you didn't even recognize Odin and you say that he is one of the gods of the Vikings they have many, true and not true, they have several gods but Odin is the great father, he is the main god
The anglosaxons look more like vikings than the vikings. Except this guy 9:02 he is wearing an ancient hellenic cataphract armor and using a 16th century sword. Two handed sword didnt even exist during the viking era
With Origins they settled on the main mechanics which work as a foundation for all the new games they'll pump out. They probably had a small division working on assets for this game well within the release of Origins.
Just so you know King Alfred the Great wasn’t King of England as England didn’t exist at this time he was king of Wessex. It was his grandson Æthelstan who was the first king of all of England
I was pretty unimpressed with the cinematic trailer personally. It looks gorgeous as always, but it seems they're still leaning into the "generic RPG warrior game with no relation to Assassin's Creed" crap from Odyssey. If they didn't include the hidden blade at the end, I wouldn't even assume this was an Assassin's Creed trailer at all. I dunno, maybe they're saving the more Assassin's Creed-ey stuff for later, I won't make any judgements until we see some gameplay. But I sure do miss when Assassin's Creed was about...assassins, and was a fairly grounded action game with stealth elements. But Odyssey did so well, so they're probably gonna lean more into the warrior trope for the foreseeable, at the cost of the series' core identity.
I'm the same way, I don't know why they didn't use a new IP for all this RPG stuff, the games have almost nothing to do with the Creed of Assassins. That being said, old Norse is a weak spot for me, I'll probly play this one. Also, using a hidden weapon against a man while he isn't looking, while cool looking, it just screams anti-Norse.
Oden, is the first wizard in Greek mythology short story long he has 2 birds one of the birds resembles death or life and the other determines someone is going to be hung (I do not remember the name of the birds) and the reason Oden was at that tree is because he hung himself at that tree and only he has chosen to let only that person to see him and warn him.
Assassins Creed in the past: "Let's do lots of actual research so that, even though our games have fantasy and scifi elements, the general look of the setting is close to actual history as possible." Assassins Creed today: "Let's screw research, completely ignore actual history and make everyone look like barbarians clad in fur and leather, just like the vikings tv show."
I wouldnt say they stopped doing research, yes its a LOT more innacurate but new AC games have a new identitie wich leans more into the fantasy side of the universe, imo I still preffer the older one but I can enjoy the new one too
Remember when they removed the crossbow as a weapon from AC1 because it was historically inaccurate? Now they have fire swords and medusas prominently featured, regardless of accuracy. It's hard to believe this is even the same franchise anymore.
Yeah, it's a game. But AC Games in the past actually tried to portray the historical era they were set in at least somewhat realistically. That was an aspect of those games that many fans, including me, very much liked about them. I personally am disappointed that this aspect is seemingly gone and instead of an at least somewhat accurate representation of viking age scandinavia and england we get pretty much an exact copy of the fantasy-vikings we know from the "Vikings" tv show and games like "For Honor". I'm not saying that the game as a whole can't still be phenominal, but i personally am quite a bit disappointed.
@Mr. Terry History The Narrator was King Alfred the Great of Wessex (Later of a United England) and the Saxon Reign (but in between that time England and Denmark was united under a Danish King I believe it was Cnut the great for a short time) ended in 1066 when the Norman Vikings Invaded in 1066 under William the Conqueror and the felling of the Saxon King Harold (Which is where the Bayeux Tapestry documents the history) Also I'm a Massive History fanatic and an Assassins Creed Fan and already have bought this in the top end collector editions as with all the games before that.
This might be a good Viking game, but it looks like it'll be an abysmal AC game. I was just so disappointed with this, it felt like they were emphasising the Viking side more than the Assassin side which would be more of what made Odyssey such an OOF in the franchise. AC4 managed to balance those two “Games,” if you will, pretty well, but this does not seem as much. However, I have enough faith in Ashraf to try and stay up to date with this game. Will not pre-order it or anything but I stay hopeful that this trailer was just a mishandled fluke and the actual game has more AC content in it, but...this was not their best foot forward.
pretty much have the same opinion as you, im waiting to see some gameplay or story synopsis, also since each assassin order have their own ''speciality'' I hope they will managed to turn it into a great ac game by developping and using the viking order ''speciality''
It’s like my favourite assassins creed game is 3 in terms of it generally being actuall assassins creed but black flag is my favourite one that sort of strays away from assassins creed
I feel like anyone who wants an actual assassins creed game is gonna be really disappointed. Personally I’d never played the series until Odyssey, and since I’ve never experienced the original assassins creed games I don’t the lack of connection. I loved Odyssey and am so excited for this! Feel like it would have been a better move to just make these open world RPG’s a new IP tho for the sake of og fans. The mix of a berserker and a hidden blade just feels kinda weird :/
If anyone is looking for a series with similiar subject matter on netflix, i reccomend checking out "The Last Kingdom". It goes through the exact time period and subject matter that this game does... and its honestly a pretty good series in my opinion.

"no worries man, im just ranting to rant."
Really?
Odin is often in the stories told as an old man with a cloak over his head but is not to cowardly to fight. Odin is also portrayed as bloodthirsty so it would not be out of his way to fight a battle. The raven flying over the battle supports that, due to Odin having two raven to help me scout the world for infomation
"help me scout the world"
damn, you are Odin? Its an honor :D
and also that specific form of odin was the basis for the inspiration about GANDALF
Magma Kojote haha, I would like so sadly not, simply a spelling mistake :D
I was debating on either if it was William or Alfred
but William had not come to fruition on the end of the Viking age and this looks like it's still going strong looking more further details
It is Alfred the Great and would likely be the battle of Edington
If you paused when the king puts his seal on the letter, you can read his name. Aelfred Rex - King Alfred. He's using the spelling in Old English with the AE, but it's confirmed to be Alfred the Great, and the game starts in 873.
Based on the signature of the war declaration, probably Alfred - I think I saw something to that effect.
Yes Hardrada
And that's why I speculated in which
Either William or Alfred
But as I paused and rewatched I had no doubts it was alfred now.
Give this is around 150 years of history between Alfred and William
Regardless of what I think of their games, Ubisoft and Blizzard make some of the best trailers in the business...

The perspective about the Vikings is from King Alfred.
The ravens are called hugin and munin, (thought and memory) he also has an two wolves (geri and freki) and an 8 legged horse (sleipnir)
TH-cam told me this was premiering at 10:15 when I checked it at 5:20, so I told it to send me a notification. I check now at 5:45 and it says “premiered 30 minutes ago” aka while I was trying to access it. Gotta love the algorithm.
Odin is often associated with ravens and they consider it a blessing from him if a raven is nearby.

The narrator is the Templar
@ That all may historically be true, but it's still obvious from the set up of the trailer that he's going to be a villain, even if he's not a "real" templar
Everything the narrator says the Viking does the opposite. That’s the point of the trailer
R!M0 technically we are following the villains path as we are gonna be playing as Vikings
@ That is such a rubbish argument, if the Danes won, history would be different and the Anglo-Saxons would have been potrayed as the "bad guys".

They've been pure fantasy for the past like 6 games. At least their not like most companies that would've advertised it as "In-Game footage".
Shadiversity agrees
That's kinda the point. In the assassins creed universe, the history books are lies and don't tell the whole truth. Like obviously in the history books, Rodrigo Borgia wasn't a templar who was murdered by his son and sought world domination. I think the Templars would probably want to leave that part out. The things you see in assassins creed is how history actually played out in this universe and the true events wasn't recorded in history
Which is impressive. If in your story you go with the fact that recorded history is a lie it gives you the freedom to make up what you want.

People: It's like they forgot the "Assassin" in Assassin's Creed
Ubisoft: BUT BUT there's the hidden blade so.
Well he is going to meet the assassins so then he is going to get the hidden blade
we never were actually that much of an assassin, apart from Altair i guess.

Assassins Creed in the past:
"Let's do lots of actual research so that, even though our games have fantasy and scifi elements, the general look of the setting is close to actual history as possible."
Assassins Creed today:
"Let's screw research, completely ignore actual history and make everyone look like barbarians clad in fur and leather, just like the vikings tv show."
Then you missed the point of the game/trailer AND the show. Well done!
I wouldnt say they stopped doing research, yes its a LOT more innacurate but new AC games have a new identitie wich leans more into the fantasy side of the universe, imo I still preffer the older one but I can enjoy the new one too
benjamin lammertz I mean I don’t personally care it’s a game. If this was a documentary i would but it’s a videogame it isn’t suppose to be realistic.
@Mr. Terry History The Narrator was King Alfred the Great of Wessex (Later of a United England) and the Saxon Reign (but in between that time England and Denmark was united under a Danish King I believe it was Cnut the great for a short time) ended in 1066 when the Norman Vikings Invaded in 1066 under William the Conqueror and the felling of the Saxon King Harold (Which is where the Bayeux Tapestry documents the history)
Also I'm a Massive History fanatic and an Assassins Creed Fan and already have bought this in the top end collector editions as with all the games before that.
Serpentking 34 odyssey is my favorite
I feel like anyone who wants an actual assassins creed game is gonna be really disappointed. Personally I’d never played the series until Odyssey, and since I’ve never experienced the original assassins creed games I don’t the lack of connection. I loved Odyssey and am so excited for this! Feel like it would have been a better move to just make these open world RPG’s a new IP tho for the sake of og fans. The mix of a berserker and a hidden blade just feels kinda weird :/
@An Xileel council How? Legitimately fucking how?
That man around 8 minutes into the video is Odin, portrayed as the wanderer with his crows hugin and munin
Odin is portrated in Nors mythology as old man with one eye, in mantle that turns into raven, or just portaded with raven on his shoulder
The dev commentary confirmed that the narrator was King Alfred
If anyone is looking for a series with similiar subject matter on netflix, i reccomend checking out "The Last Kingdom". It goes through the exact time period and subject matter that this game does... and its honestly a pretty good series in my opinion.
Mr_Levi423 I’m literally watching season 4 of it now
i thing i discovered now that they can't put the blade below the wrist because then they have to cut there ring finger which is not what vikings known for
