I don't find Ricky arrogant, just a very confident experienced engine builder & tech on what his experience & knowledge has taught him. Sod the haters & keep doing what you do as this channel is brilliant. 👌🏽Edit Mat Armstrong needs to buy that crashed f40
He’s not arrogant, just confident in his knowledge and ability. There’s a difference. I restore classic cars but enjoy his videos mainly for the workshop chat 😂
I saw Mats video with you and as I watch you both independently I know how you are generally - love the way you are and it's why I subscribed. I didn't think you came across arrogant at all. Comments will always be both positive and negative but the more and more people that are coming to you is the only confirmation you need. Loving your videos keep them coming. ❤
Not arrogant at all, confidence is easy interpreted at arrogance by not very smart people. Keep up the good work mate and love the movie quotes and humour.
Arrogant please don’t make me laugh. It’s called being a bad ass engine builder. Top work as always lads. Love this channel. Always puts a smile on my face whilst listening to a very knowledgeable guy.
You have staggering ability and knowledge - simply awesome! Cries of arrogance come from those who are jealous and mechanically impotent....ignore those comments and just keep doing what you do as it gives such pleasure to us mere mortals.
When I was an apprentice mechanic back in 1974 I thought I was the dogs when I did rebuilds on Ford V4 and V6 engines. But this modern stuff would have me running for the hills. All that plumbing and electrics is insane. In my day we took the coil and plug leads off and disconnected top and bottom hoses and that was it 🙄😂😂
Thomas at VAG Technic is stripping these engines on a regular basis. Normal issues are timing chain sprockets, timing chains and teeth on the cam variators wearing. The rocker arm needle bearings just wear away and fall apart and sometimes this happens on engines that have covered low mileages. Great content Ricky, but if i was working on an engine on a pallet my back would be in half. Must be an age thing
Yeah because the engine room isn’t finished properly all my stuff is spread everywhere! So will strip in the pallet and then clean everything and rebuild in the new room!
I think the problem you have a lot of Matt Armstrongs viewers don't understand the level you are on I love mates video but I learn a lot more from watching yours and I love how younuse hand tools the full time and the banta is on point
Ricky, Arrogance is something anybody with one iota of what he doing does not suffer, top bloke and as a boss you own it m8 these vids are great and soon be a 60,000 subscribers channel, keep on keeping on
A new subscriber loved the video. It made me glad I only had to work on 205gti and 405 mi16 engines back in the 90s using the faithful Haynes manual, the fact that Ricky is having a completely different conversation as he dissects a horrendously complicated engine. mind blown.
Hi guys like most of the comments below you are clearly very talented and confident with it!! this is not arrogance. Having worked for Siemens and now Innomotics for 28 years I've done my fair share of telephone tech support. If you do it well and know your field of specialism, then a successful tech support over the telephone is very rewarding. So i fully understand your little dance and have had many of my own over the years👍
Thanks for the content. Enjoying learning about how these engines work. Madness how people want ridiculous power from an already stock powerful car. That head gasket closeup was class!
For me (I've spent 45 years in the Porsche/Audi service & repair game) , the name of the You Tube content provider game is__ are you believable and if so are you entertaining? For me, yes, you are believable and you are entertaining & as long as you are I will keep watching!
I watch the channel regularly and only find Ricky and the boys confident and knowledgeable - they are the experts that give you confidence without firing the vague parts cannon at a problem till something sticks. The recent video with Matt was a perfect example of someone knowing the product and exactly where to look to resolve the issues. Nothing arrogant, but informative and to the point. Well done Ricky - stuff the keyboard warriors. 👍
Great to see Mrs REP again 👍🏻 Mike Myers is a comic genius, he's given us so many fabulous one liners - we're not worthy - a smoke and a pancake .....😎
I'm impressed with your perception of the visual clues given to you when dismatling the engine, as you inspect every component visualy, carefully putting the pieces together to come a conclusion as to what the issues are, and the probable cause.
So enjoy your footage and the banter between you two - always a must-watch ! If I had something that was more exotic than a BMW 330d that needed work, I would be asking you for a quote and slot - honesty and integrity always shines through...........
so ricky will you read the ecu and check weather its been bad mapped before flashing it back to standard or just flash it back to be safe would be intresting to see if you can see a bad map on there
Thanks for the video of the EA825 V8T top-end engine teardown. I look forward to seeing disassembly of the block. I agree the head gasket failure is from excessive cylinder pressure from someone going a bit too far with the tune. It’s amazing these tiny little 243 cubic inch V8’s are able to generate 800-900HP/TQ from just a tune. Audi seems to consistently under estimate the amount of PWR their engines produce vs BMW & AMG. Appreciate the outstanding technical knowledge and in depth videos you Gents are putting out. Keep up the great work!
Great video and very informative 👍 Given that your gut feeling is saying the root cause is possibly a tune, would you say it's likely a bad tune or general risk from any tune? Only reason I ask is I'm contemplating a stage 1 tune on my S3. Thanks regards Tony
I think anyone who is talented seems arrogant to the less talented. I also think a lot of people have forgotten how to be humorous. Thank God Ricky dow try a black country accent😂😂. Loving the more relaxed videos. Not stressing about views and just doing what you love doing is entertaining enough.🤟
Thanks for your emails to help my car Ricky chap, its finally running and everything workign should pick it up net week after 14 months love the videos :)! been wathc9ng you guys since way back doing the Record breaking Skoda Build
Nice to see someone explain what all the parts are as you begin to strip it. all things I have heard of but would have no idea where they are or what they look like. I also agree that you don't come across as arrogant, you come across as a guy who knows his job and has a sense of humour.
JayEmm's latest vid has an interesting perspective on the F40. Says it dumps an extra 300bhp between 3000 and 4000rpm (or something like that) which is just when the turbo wakes up. Combined with old and cold tyres hence his suggestion that the driver technician may not be quite the plum assumed.
It's such a shame people can't just appreciate talent and not confuse confidence and having a laugh with arrogance. People need to just enjoy and educate themselves. Really appreciate your work and your experience. Hope you have a good one.
Like many people have commented I watch both you and Matt’s channels in no way are you arrogant, you are an engine builder and are good at what you do, you were asked to help and found the problem and done a celebration dance , I don’t see a problem with that , I enjoy both channels and I am now heading back to Matt’s videos to tell the clowns where to go ! Sorry I took a few days to watch your video.
I always learn something watching the REPerformance uploads. Really meaty content for petrolheads. It's also really nice to see the subscriber count increasing steadily too. Great work Guys ❤.
its not arrogance, i would say its Ricky's "aura" 🌟. He is very good at what he does and his knowledge and explanation is second to none. This is why other tubers are coming to him, they all have "their" style of video. Some tell stories, some create vlogs but if they were all the same it would get boring. Keep doing what you're doing! I personally love all the old film references and catchphrases but maybe its an age thing 🙂
Love the content as always. You are a fountain of knowledge so thanks for sharing. Remember from deans video the car was barry’d up with 4d plates. Bet the map file is from a packet of cornflakes and it’s been given absolute death.
I have a VW, Audi and a Mercedes. None of these go to the dealer for anything. I take them when needed to a confident ex Audi technician, mostly just for servicing and MOT’s. When something more is needed, he tells me what’s wrong and how much it’s going to cost. As he’s known me for years, he only uses OEM parts to replace and I’m happy with this as it was me that requested it in the first place. When my car is ready, he’ll show me the old parts, with an explanation of why he thinks it went wrong in the first place. The thing is my cars are so well looked after and driven sensibly, there is not much garage time needed. I’m starting to waffle, so will leave it there, happy motoring guys and gals 🚙 Toot Toot
It is those roller rockers that worry me about my s5 after hearing about the issues they can cause.. I think you may be missing a trick by not doing more of the S4/S5 engines as I know you are one of the few people I would trust to do the job. The fact that most garages would just do a quick engine flush replace gasket and send car back out speaks volumes about Ricky's professionalism when he instead is saying that other parts are also contaminated.
Love these strip down diagnostic vids...amazes me how quick you strip down an engine , knowing you know how it goes back together. Pretty cool, shame about Matt W. Bit arrogant innit. Any way keep doing what u do lads. Its great
Watched last weeks VAG Techic stripping the same engine out a Porsche. Made me think i wouldnt want one of those and hey presto, Rickys doing the same and I have the same thoughts. Just so damn complex for a V6 engine. VAG Technic found cam variator teeth were knackered and timing chains etc. Seems common on these as well as the other Audi's. I did roll past your place last Saturday and cant believe you let the team have a day off !! Was collecting my Cupra from next door and wanted to ask about canbus with the VW stuff as they had it for a month trying to fix it.
When I watched Dean stripping that side of the engine the middle headbolts weren't as tight as the outers by what seemed like a decent amount of torque. Could be a factory defect that they werent torqued correctly or the head/block warped from heat? Mat's video wasn't my cup of tea, seemed very dismissive of the expertise you provided, felt very manufactured but enjoyed seeing the boys getting some screen time :D
With lifting heads, would you not expect cross cylinder blow-by? eg see the black staining at the narrow areas between cylinders? Not overly familiar with V engines lifting heads so not entirely sure, but certainly on any inline motors I've seen lifting heads the cylinders seem to bleed into each other and the gasket is heavily "eaten". If this turns into a full engine build, would be keen to see the top shells on the rods for any excessive compressive wear.
Hi Kate 👋 Ricky, I absolutely love Mike Myers, he was excellent in so I married an axe murderer. Have you watched The pentaverate ? Absolutely amazing. Oh on a car theme I loved the explanation of the cylinder shut down solenoid for the cams. 👍 May I suggest a company call Nickerson for brass screwdrivers etc you mention not damaging anything when using drivers and prys, the stock brass ones for injection moulding companies for protecting tool.

The lesson is - the VW engineers put in only as much metal as was needed for the cylinder pressures they wanted to be able to run. And not one gramme extra! It's most definitely not a 2JZ... McLaren engines seem to be like that too if I'm not mistaken; the factory state of tuning is very close to what the metalwork can take (or beyond?). Tinker with caution. Which - to me - is deeply impressive. To get such an understanding of how a head / block will behave so as to be able to par down the metal content so much and still have everything working is quite something. F40, Minutes from the crash is a garage called Bell sports cars, it has been assumed that’s where the F40 was going back to, in fairness to the driver it was cold, damp and that road is notoriously slippery, there’s been a few crashes there.
Would the position of the turbos, right in the centre as a hot V possibly cause this? It seems the Head Gasket of the 2 Central cylinders closest to the turbos were clearly effected?

The bloke who owned it previously clearly didn't look after it. On its 1st mot it was advised for all 4 tyres. On a performance car you need good rubber at all times.
Ooo it’s nice to watch for once! 🤣 evening guys! 🙌🏼
Your never getting that loom back on Dean 😂
I’m getting told off a lot! 🤣 sorry Ricky!
Hahaha def a you problem now mate!
best one was .....im covered in piss now haha

Arrogant? He's one of the most down to earth fellas I've ever spoken to. Knows what he's talking about and has values.
Must be jealous people.
Not arrogant at all. Confident, knows his abilities and his job extremely well. Highly competent is what he is and loves Bikes!
Agreed, don’t change Ricky 😊.
He’s not arrogant, just confident in his knowledge and ability. There’s a difference. I restore classic cars but enjoy his videos mainly for the workshop chat 😂

😂😂
You have staggering ability and knowledge - simply awesome! Cries of arrogance come from those who are jealous and mechanically impotent....ignore those comments and just keep doing what you do as it gives such pleasure to us mere mortals.
Staggering ability and knowledge, with incredibly complex modern performance engines, and how to get more performance from them.
When I was an apprentice mechanic back in 1974 I thought I was the dogs when I did rebuilds on Ford V4 and V6 engines. But this modern stuff would have me running for the hills. I get severe anxiety watching the tear down of that engine… I mean seriously!
Amazing to watch, great content!

Cracking video Ricky, new subscriber enjoy seeing in depth knowledge
I watched that episode with you on matts channel you came across just fine sir.
The two best motoring TH-cam channels combine 😎🎉
You have no idea for how long i'm expecting and waiting this video... my favorite car...
Your not arrogant, you are just a wizard at what you do.

Amazing how you remember where everything goes....engines really complicated now, great video as always
Luv"n all the tech jiggery pokery, and then we hear Kate's voice....instant smiles.
Best channel ever. Ricky is the best, fun and super informative. Cheers from near Aspen, CO, US.
"Workshop of dreams" I'll say.... sat here sipping tea nice and warm, enjoying a lovely vid, jolly well BANG-ON. Many thanks.
WOW, show them all some love. .....
What.... !!!!
you didn't come across arrogant at all Matey .... keep it up!!
Almost a 100k views mate, nice! Project Ricky, let’s go!!!

Omg what a strip down , very interesting , nice vlog 😎

dude fair play to you, you know your stuff, i really enjoyed watching this, amazing how you know were everything goes and works, hello from dublin
I look forward to getting the downpipes from Dean so I can build some big bore decats for him which will go well with a nice refurbed engine!🙌
Oooooooh! You're in bother for the shaved joke :D
You're going to pay for that hahaha
34:10
Well done , your a great team, typical German efficiency 😀. And not that many " oh my gods " kind regards from the UK

Salute from South Africa keep on doing the work mate 🎉🎉🎉🎉
i think i've learnt a lot more from this video than i was expecting to learn, especially in the second half

May I suggest a company call Nickerson for brass screwdrivers etc you mention not damaging anything when using drivers and prys, the stock brass ones for injection moulding companies for protecting tool.
Haters are always gonna hate guys, laugh it off.
Love the work, keep it coming and never lay off the humour 😂😂😂
Very interesting content as always, every video you learn something new and damn these engines are complicated, the chances of problems occurring as they get older is huge, seals and hoses going hard from heat before you look at the numerous other possible failure points electrically.
I love your sense of humour, 😂😂 never change mate. BTW when are the bobble hats arriving? It will be summer soon!!
Thanks RE. Great insight. The engine oracle
would you be able to measure the head bolts to confirm if the head has lifted?
Ive been on this channel when he had like 35k odd subscribers.. andhe knows his stuff and is straight forward (arrogant). fair play the plonka earnt his stripes.
The problem here is that your videos are a talk through like martt armstrongs other channel, and the goonsquads and tavarishs other channel.. You should have a Bling Bling Channel when things are smoother after your move.
@@shafiqahmed7400 Ricky isn't any of those TF!
Top video lads strange it was the same pot's on both sides and away from the cylinder cut out things, hopefully you'll talk about that in the next one
Being in the engineering business cnc machinist I see a man who really knows his stuff sad you have armchair engine builders know better you talk the talk walk the walk well done sir 👏👏👏
grate job as always lad your the man next video please
The lesson is - the VW engineers put in only as much metal as was needed for the cylinder pressures they wanted to be able to run. And not one gramme extra! It's most definitely not a 2JZ...
McLaren engines seem to be like that too if I'm not mistaken; the factory state of tuning is very close to what the metalwork can take (or beyond?). Tinker with caution.
Which - to me - is deeply impressive. To get such an understanding of how a head / block will behave so as to be able to par down the metal content so much and still have everything working is quite something. It makes me wonder just how much finite element loading / flexure analysis is going on in engine design these days; lots, by the looks of it.
Amazing content. You got so much knowledge its insane.
Love the content mate keep it up
I think some muppet has done a crap engine map “ and it’s been driven like it’s been stolen can’t dean get the ecu red.. ? Brilliant video though 💡👍🏻
Very informative video 🎉
What have I missed 🤷♂️😉
Where’s the vid where you did a dyno for someone and they weren’t what you thought 😁👍
So, if it's mapped, can you use ODIS to look at the last time files were written to confirm a hypothesis?
Love watching your videos 😊
I saw your dance on Mats vid, can't believe people called it arrogant, like do they not celebrate when they have a win?
I started watching for the engine building now I just watch for ricks accents and the banter !!!!!!!!😂
Thanks for the content, it's great
F40,
Minutes from the crash is a garage called Bell sports cars, it has been assumed that’s where the F40 was going back to, in fairness to the driver it was cold, damp and that road is notoriously slippery, there’s been a few crashes there.
Who knew watching an engine being taken apart for an hour could be entertaining. :)
Very interesting and informative video :)
I'm hoping said F40 driver is ok for a start. Those things do look super spikey on-boost, even in a straight line!
Would the position of the turbos, right in the centre as a hot V possibly cause this? It seems the Head Gasket of the 2 Central cylinders closest to the turbos were clearly effected?
Or an issue with the cylinder deactivation as only cylinders that don't deactivate had the issue ...
Love your sense of humour man 😀
Third place for making a commitment, love this channel
matt armstrong was after a new challenge on his video the other day i suggested your noble lol
Didn’t Matt Armstrong recommend the noble to Rick it’s in an earlier vlog I’m sure
@nanganang7766 dunno but he said he wanted a challenge. Get the frame on a jig bang a decent engine in it. They cost a bomb as a complete car
It was Mat who talked him into buying it 😂
@g_aln6658 maybe it was a secret ploy by Matt to make sure he could buy it for less
I heard " Ello my luverlies! Today I be working on this 'ere V8" . I saw: a pile of tubes and wires. Pleasantly surprised to find there was indeed a V8 lurking in there. Received a lesson on how a modern V8 works. My head hurts.

The bloke who owned it previously clearly didn't look after it. On its 1st mot it was advised for all 4 tyres. On a performance car you need good rubber at all times.
