Is there no limit to Ricky’s abilities. Energy is not destroyed, just converted, he’s a bloody physics teacher now.
To be fair it's the most basic principles of engine function. If you don't understand that, then you've no business being near an engine. And that's not to detract from old mate here, he obviously does know, and he knows well.
@ Amazing how the art of irony and sarcasm is totally lost on some people.
Fantastic to see father and son working together and Ricky explaining everything taking the time and not worrying about anything
Hats off to you, Ricky. There was no embarrassment from your son respect to you.
So cool that he encourages his staff to learn by offering incentives. My 2 x lads havent got a clue how engines work. It was easy for me as my dad was an engineer and an ex rally driver.
I said to my daughter who is the petrolhead rides 125 motorbike everyday. Did her theory for car and bike on the same day passed both. Has done 20 hrs with driving instructor and extra driving experience with me in the car told her that if she got to 70% ready for test she could drive my Alfa 156 3.2 GTA in the end she got to drive it for 3 weeks….cost me a lot of petrol 😂 got test on Tuesday
I personally think this channel will grow massively within the next year. Different kind of content to Matt and Chris etc, but much more in depth and knowledgeable. Both are enjoyable to watch but the devils in the detail so this channel in my opinion wins. Amazing work Ricky and the whole team 👍🏻
Glad you are enjoying the vids. Thank you.
Got to agree with you there Tim currently working my way through the back catalogue some great content engrossed with the technical stuff answering loads of questions I didn’t even know I had 😂
The footage gets better and better. Pop along to a couple of local schools Rick. Talk to the students as you did to your son when explaining combustion and some (even girls?) will be inspired to enquire about mechanical engineering as a career.
Very true
🙌🏼🙌🏼
So nice to see someone teaching and not ridiculing. Keep up the good work everyone!
Love your patience explaining to the youngster about the engine cycles!
That lecture at the beginning was nice, someone had to teach them, lucky for us we have a master to rely on
🍿
I know nothing about engines, but I get the feeling I would love to work and learn in Ricky's shop, what a guy
Good to see him sharing his knowledge with everyone around him. Love watching the videos!! Keep up the good work
Aww. Having his mom in the video and giving her the microphone was very nice of him.
I’d love to strip and rebuild an engine to this depth. I’ve got the skills I reckon, just not got the space or the time to do it. I’ve done a single cylinder bike engine, including splitting the crankcase and changing the bearings, but this is another level, and I don’t have the workshop to do it sadly…one day maybe. 😎
Great to see the subscribers going up. How long before its 100k?

As You have found out that some Coolant in the oil will not actually hurt anything 😉 and if it was the proper "coolant" it won't even rust anything - The sludge and crap will !!
Clean and reseal the Motor and that the small amount of Oil Emulsion will evaporate off when the oil is over 100c.
if the Crankcase Ventilation system is good the motor will be water free quite quickly, if not some mayo may collect on the Oil cap rocker covers where it condenses.
Obviously Change the oil after the first startup and run and again at 50 miles.
That's probably done 1000miles from the start of that HG leak 🤣
You did Right 👍 to look at the bearings but don't tear it down unless it needs rings
Maincap cross bolts should always be first out and last in 😉
There was a period where there were bad exhaust valves in the EA825 engine (mine dropped a valve and grenaded itself). There is a TSB from Audi about this, if this engine is in that date range I would change the valves too.
2:40-OH-MY-GIDDY-AUNT......... these vids paint a picture in my PRE-VERTED-LITTLE-MIND. Many thanks
Watched a couple now thought id subed well deserves more subs keep um coming guys 👍🏼
Sounds like your Dad's got confidence in you pal...go for it but just drive within yourself 👍👍
This has been fascinating, thank you for the combustion cycle walk through too
You're very good at explaining things so that people like myself can understand.
Great video Rick really like to see you teaching your boy what is what with an engine
Great video . I am enjoying this fixer upper type video can't wait till the next few. Cheers from Tasmania 😊😊
We need Valvoline to bring their "Restore n Protect" oil over here. That stuff should keep and engine clean, and clean up old engines over time. My A4's 2.0TFSI is brown inside, and it gets engine flushed and oil changed every 5-7000 miles. Ive done that since it was on 67k its now on 192k. I want to use this oil from Valvoline as ive seen "The oil Geek's" videos about it and its a game changer.
Now that is an incentive!!!! Pass your driving test by May and you get to drive the R8!!! 😎😎 .... Do it mate!!!!!!
Brilliant watching you teach. 😊👍
Good video lads and Ricky nice incentive for your lad mate respect
Cool video, really entertaining and educational content. Even to explaining the combustion cycle was entertaining.
Loook forward to the rebuild.
That oil was mingin😂😂 good news for Dean really. Love a good engine strip down.
Good video that, good info for people wanting to understand what to look for when looking into a broken motor.
I found you by watching Matt Armstrong's channel. Really enjoy this content. More in detail, enjoy the information... Which video do you show the engine cleaning?
Congratulations on the clean shave. You splashing out Riccckkyyyyy
Ricky does the RS7 engine have the same problem with small needle bearings in the rockers ? Like what that lads at Vag Technic go on about on their channel ! Would you also do some costing’s so we have a better idea of what something like this cost to fix .
Amazing channel mate ❤
I think it's only the 2.9 engine with that problem .
Hope you do a full detail video when putting everything back. Audi saving costs that looks exactly like Audi v6 variants
That could have been so much worse. Great vid as always.
Thanks for the explanation of what a windage tray is for. I always wondered.
Impressive stuff explaining 4 stroke cycle but for a young lad to take it in is,SUCK,SQUEEZE,BANG, BLOW, fnaar fnarr 😂
Bloody love you guys ❤❤ great content hole family in getting involved keep up the amazing work guys ❤🎉
Ricky mate no way that's your "little" lad.... Shows how long it's been since we first met. Unbelievable... Where does the time go?
Great start to my sat coffee ready love it
Great to see you passed my on the knowledge to the apprentice lol
Funny, I actually like Bedford. Whilst not as good as Oulton, Cadwell etc, it's somewhere you can stretch the legs on the car and is a good place for beginners to go.
Looks cold in that workshop Ricky… 🥶
I'm sure people will comment, why not just do the head gasket and flash to stock then put back together and flush the engine rather than replacing all the stuff you talked about. I get it and understand why, but many won't. Could you say the reasons why flushing isn't the best way forward. Wouldn't a flush remove all the water and contaminated oil?
Had the same thought, I know it’s not the belt and braces approach but I reckon you could do 4-5 engine oil flushes in a row that would get rid of 95% of this, rest would just evaporate off with a long motorway run. Seems a bit OTT to replace so much…
Happy to be proved wrong though I’m no expert!!!
Probably because the engine is already out of the car and replacing those items now removes any future concerns
@@mattflood3334
Performance engine and makes sense to future proof it. Cleaning it thoroughly removes all traces of contamination rather than flushing it multiple times and having that contamination cycled through the oil galleries and effectively diluting it progressively.
I guess because he’s ultimately putting his name on that engine by rebuilding it. If he doesn’t strip and clean it fully it’s always going to be a what if. And if that engine developed a problem in the future then it would be his reputation at risk. So by fully stripping and cleaning this it can be rebuilt knowing 100% there won’t be an issue with contamination. (Ricky to confirm this) 😂
I’ll do that if you underwrite the engine and labour cost for Dean if it goes bang!!??
I’m the wrong person to come to if you want to cut corners mate!
Would you rebuild this block to stock or would you upgrade any parts? Such as ARP head bolts given the stock bolts let go? Or would you just recommend a stock flash on the ECU and trust the stock head bolts 🤓
Would you recommend rebuilding the engine with head bolts (ie: OEM) or switching to head studs while you are in there?
Hi Ricky. Just a heads up mate. I ordered a Carly using your link. Unfortunately the code did not work to get your discount. I still purchased it but hope you don't lose out on anything. Love your show.
Thank you for letting me know Paul! I’ll chase that up. What code did you use?
Just curious, it's been 4 weeks since you started on Chris Slix McLaren engine. Has there been any progress other than strip down and cleaning? You said it should be done by end of Jan.
Waiting on parts to arrive to rebuild in the next week or so
Awesome video!!
How the frack did it get that bad & yet it's all good & fixable, he's a lucky boy 👍
Roll the 🎲 everytime 🤣
@SavingSalvage 🤣🤣 well it rolled in something & it wasn't dice 🤪😁
Pembrey circuit is down the road from me 😊
Eloquent lesson in physics 🙏👍👍
So that's a second hand engine in coming, that repair bill alone will be more than it's worth and Dean won't want to pay Ricky's bill unless there is a TH-cam hand shake! 😂
Very interesting enjoyed 👌
Best video yet
Dean should forge the engine and put hybrid turbos on
Have you ever used ZX1 oil additive,if so what do you think of this additive
What’s the approximate cost or the repair?
what did you think would be the outcome before you pulled it apart?
and did it surprise you in a good/bad way?
Can we see a rebuild 👍👍
Great video again
19:20 everything reminds me of her 😭😭😭😭
The beauty of low friction rings 😅 What’s the milage of this engine?
Love watching, but have you ever told everyone where the bloody hell did you get your knowledge from, you don’t look old enough 😂😂
Yes it is on a TH-cam video somewhere with his V10 knowledge course which no one else in the company wanted to go to in Germany.
great job as always keep it goin next video please
Much prefer track day at PEMBREY ,, compared to coombe
Know your stuff Ricky top man👍
Head bolts stretched or block hole threads, diagnose and remedy please?
DAV you mist it you should have dropped (Milky Milky from The Mary Whitehouse Experience) when he showed the oil..... milky milky
Superb!!
Can I ask you how did you learn to do this job how long did it take you
If Ned Flanders’s was a mechanic from Swindon.
I said to my lad it’s your turn around Donington in the Megan, he 💩 his pants 😂
Matt and his ‘something about Mary’ hair gel!!
😂
So was the culprit most likely to be a poor map. Maxing out the fuel pump, causing a lean condition, detonation and lifing the heads? I wonder if it has a pop and bang map too, causing carbon build up?
How much ball park are those fancy Mewa rags mate? I reckon we could do with some at my place and environmentally friendly 👍🏼
£50-£60 a month mate!!
@REPerformanceUK Perfect thank you. Keep up the great work 💪🏼 loving the channel
Water is a good lubricant I would not worry about it, my proof is how many times have you spun off on it when racing😂😂
Hahahaha that is a great analogy!!
Awesome👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
class watch again that man 👍
My head gasket let go and now I have a rod knock. I think. And a leaky rear main seal
Me, I wanna know what the cost is to do all of this to get this engine back running? Gotta be mucho 💰💰💰💰
real mayo or fat free? you do know that in fat free they use xanthan gum really interesting substitute it's the slime that grows on the mould found on ivy leaves just felt like sharing that
Looks like someone has filled that engine with a melted mars bar, twix & a packet of Munchies.
Aww come on bring bk the hour long ones lol
this is the porsche made EA825 right? why did it fail? they are supposed to be loads better than the old EA824
Is that block not symmetrical or did my eyes see an optical illusion? 1:30 ish mark
Its more of a salvage operation than a new build 😂
Did Matt get shipwrecked and turned up in lilliput with all the little people like Swindon’s answer to Gullivers travels
SuckSqueezeBangBlow in my day ! Why cant the oil cooler be cleaned? Is it just not economical or a techy reason?
Thanks
These engines seem to be dirty, by that I mean combustion products getting past the rings, the oil gets dirty very quick, I’m change my oil every 3-4000 miles and its always very dark/dirty, no debris in the filter, just dark. They are obviously very low tension rings to get the emissions and fuel economy - which at 33 mpg on a run is great for a 600bhp 2 tonne car
I agree! Was very surprised by carbon build up past the first ring! Diesel esque!
Aha! Back to Dean's lovely broken RS7 engine...
Flooded ta hell isn't it,my god!💀🥶🥶🤯🤯👀👀🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
You mean Dean's bottom end. 😅😅
So the cause of water in the oil was a head gasket..... or something else?
He said in the first video he thinks the head lifted because of the tune
Yeah the chances of 2 head gaskets failing are very slim imo….both show signs of blue by!!
i'm no amazing mechanic ,I just know enough to get by ,but as I was taught the 4 stroke cycle ,was thus, Suck ,Squeeze ,Bang , Blow ,which does sound a bit like the plot of porno (allegedly)... great work as per usual
Golum at work 😂😂
A good result despite the mayo...
First Law of Thermodynamics 👍

Hi hope you are all well I know your a professional Cunpany and I do like the content. But I can see on your videos you and some of the staff iv seen you are not wearing steel toe cat boots to me this is a must in an Engeering or workshop environment to protect your feet and your staff well-being but keep the good work up thanks Tim
Bad news is the bill !
