I am currently trying this basting method on a quilt as you go quilt. I did as you demonstrated. My machine needle did not do well when I pierced a line of glue. So, I tried spreading the glue out with a foam brush after laying down the lines of glue. Those blocks have given me no problems at all when quilting.
Thank you so much for sharing with your subscribers, Sara! Your quilt turned out great, and your quilting looked great, especially for your first-time FMQ loops! Sometimes the best way to learn is to do! Awesome job!
Wow Sara. Now I want to try this. And i want to FMQ something. I have done it before. I used one of my vintage sewing machines and it went well. Have to set it up again and not stress over it. Thanks for showing this method with the school glue.
You’re welcome. I will be basting with glue from now on and even though my free motion quilting looks awful on this quilt I want to do more. It’s actually really relaxing. Have a wonderful week!
Thank you. Yes watch her videos. She does a larger quilt so you can see it works well on all sizes and her video answering most common questions is very informative. Have a great week!
Thank you. My niece absolutely loved it. She even got a little emotional when I gave it to her so I was super happy that I finished it for her. Have a great week!
Thanks so much for sharing this technique. I’ve heard about it, but have never seen it done before. So happy it worked and that you have a happy recipient for your quilt.:) I’ll be trying this method as well!
Thank you so much for watching. My niece was absolutely thrilled to receive this quilt so I am happy that I finished it for her. Have a wonderful week!
Wow! You could throw that quilt top my way. It is cute!! I like the idea of glue basting but wonder about laundering. Does the glue wash out well and if so, what does the glue do to the washer? I want to be thorough before I try it because I have had problems with the spray basting. It ruined a quilt I was making for my great grand-daughter.

I just did fmq for the first time. I also felt like i just wanted to throw the whole quilt away mid way through. Lol! I had a lot of trouble doing the fmq. Thread breaks, machine getting locked up. I messed up my fmq foot. Just an awful experience.
Oh that’s too bad. I did end up practicing first and then I did it not this quilt and I wanted to throw it out but my niece insisted it was perfect for her so I let her have it. Just keep trying I know I will
When I've used school glue then dried it with an iron, the glue gets hard. And then it's hard to quilt through the hard spots in the glue. I use 505 basting spray instead.
Yes I did find the glue was a bit hard after I used the iron on it. Next time I will just let it dry on it’s own. One day I will have to try 505 basting spray. I hear it’s really good.
I wish I had known about this sooner. Yes there were a few spots I had used too much and you really don’t need a lot. Thank you for watching and have a great week!
I used to do it this way. But turns out when the needle hits the glue, it slowly throws the timing if your machine off. Repair shops are expensive so I'll keep thread basting.

I am definitely going to have to get some foam brushes for when I use this method. Thanks for sharing that it makes it easier.
I had the same experience. The glue can be a really thin application to work, so I squirt them brush out thin quickly.

I just tried Miriam’s glue method too. I loved it. It was so much easier! I love it!
I tried this for the first time last week. Worked great! Stocked up on glue while it’s on sale for back to school.
@@judyyelton5859 that’s great! And great idea on stocking up now with back to school sales. I can’t believe I didn’t think about that
What a great idea! Thank you for sharing links to Stitch Obsessed I will watch them next.

Wow! Thank you, Sara! I’ve heard that this can be a great tool & I see how! 😊
Yes, I was like there’s no way it’ll work that good but it did and it’s my new way of basting from now on. Have a great week!
That tree was so cute. Thanks for the video Sara.
Thank you Susan. Have a wonderful week!
LOVE glue basting!
I love this quilt - I'm glad you finished it, and it will always remind you of your journey and persistence :)

Great tip. I would never have thought of this. Ty.
I wouldn’t have either if I hadn’t come across the video by Stitch Obsessed. I’m so glad I did. Have a great day!
This is great to know about using glue for basting
Definitely going to be my go to method from here on out.
Have a wonderful week!
Oh wow.. Love this. Thank you for sharing. I use basting spray and it's so expensive.
Thank you. I never tried basting spray but I don’t think I will now that I found this option.

I checked it after washing and I feel like the glue all washed out and I have not noticed it doing anything to my washer
Would you be able to share the Christmas Tree Pattern. I like this idea instead of basting spray. Thanks for the tutorial.

That is such a pretty quilt… if you don’t care for it after you finished you can donate to a nursing home or a preschool..give as a gift .. pretty
@@The4amQuilter-eo1dk Thank you. I did finish it and gave it to my niece. She loves it.

@@Ree7828 hello. This pattern is a free download on fat quarter shop. It is called Evergreen mystery quilt along. It was last years mystery quilt

remember it is washable school glue... Makes a difference when you wash it to remove the glue

just don't iron it. Apply the glue to the batting...
I do this all the time. It’s so easy and the glue washes out. Don’t use too much.
I wish I had known about this sooner. Yes there were a few spots I had used too much and you really don’t need a lot. Thank you for watching and have a great week!
Curious. Couldn't you dilute the glue with a little water & put it in a spray bottle & spray it on?
Lmk.
I have seen others do that with success so I do believe you can. Unfortunately I do not know the proper ratio.
I used to do it this way. But turns out when the needle hits the glue, it slowly throws the timing if your machine off. Repair shops are expensive so I'll keep thread basting.
I myself, would purchase a foam brush and just lightly spread out those lines.
That’s a great idea and I’ll definitely try that. Thank you
keep the bottle up a bit higher and move quickly to get an thinner line. I've done 6 so far... I use an 80 topstitch needle...
@@rmenninghaus1646 thank you

Don't toss unwanted quilts.
Donate them to chairities, and the quilt will find a new home
I love using the glue to make a quilt sandwich.
It is definitely my go to method now. Thank you for watching
Buy a spray bottle and put some glue in it…. Add a little bit of water and spray it on. I used to make spray glue for my kindergarten students
I have thought about trying that that method but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Thank you for the suggestion. Have a great day.
Dilute it, and spray it on.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to try that method out.
