  • Wow! When rivers slash through rock, you get some of the most scenic views on earth like Wagon Wheel and Echo Park. The Colorado side of Dinosaur National Monument features a 4x4 road for offroad vehicles called Yampa Bench Road. We drove the loop starting at Canyon Visitor Center in Dinosaur, Colorado, along Highway 40, then north on county road 16 to Yampa Bench Road to Harper Corners Road. Along the way we hiked the Bull Canyon trail, visited Wagon Wheel Overlook, Harding Hole Overlook and then ended up at Echo Park, home of Steamboat Rock. Come along on our driving adventure - we only made one wrong turn. Luckily, it was the super scenic and historic Mantle Ranch, home of one of the world's largest privately owned petroglyph collections in the world. We also stopped by Whispering Cave. This is the Colorado side of Dinosaur National Monument. The Utah side of Dinosaur is where the fossils are. I created another accompanying video about that day:

I drove that Yampa Bench road....for about 3 miles. The level of fine silt on the road convinced me to turn around. I was still cleaning it up a week later.

Not fun! I don’t recall any silt at all but I think it may have rained just a bit before we drove it.

Isn't it gorgeous?! The only issue was signage and a major wrong turn. I'm confident if you were would have been there, our navigation skills would have been perfect. 😁
